Lucha Expo Success
This years Lucha Libre Expo in Mexico City was yet another success with over 23,000 fans coming in over the two day span to buy merchandise, meet lucahdores, and check out all the great Lucha Libre action presented by pretty much every promotion in Mexico. The biggest complaint I saw was the same as last year, that CMLL charged people for autographs of their stars. Oh, and people always ask me "what do you love about Lucha?" and the Lucha Expo gives so many reasons, but look no further than:

Hot chicks in masks beating each other up, what's NOT to love?

Oh and this:

Yes, that is a Ninja Turtle diving onto another luchador.

MaskManiac

I just recently got a mask from Maskmaniac.com (Sin Cara) and I have to say it is an extremely well made mask, that looks great. Maskmaniac puts together some really good looking masks for great prices. "Where can I get lucha masks from" is the question I get the most from people. Maskmaniac.com and Highspots.com are definitely the best places to get them online for American fans. MaskManiac has masks ranging from $16.99 to $60 for the high end, professional grade masks.

Rey Mysterio Jr. Wins World Title, Then Loses It
This past Monday on WWE's "RAW" Lucha legend Rey Mysterio Jr. won the WWE Heavyweight Championship for the first time in his career (he held the World Heavyweight Title twice before) by beating Miz in the WWE Title Tournament Finals to open the show. Then, later in the Main Event he defended the belt against John Cena and lost it in an excellent match. Mysterio joins Yokozuna, Andre The Giant, & Randy Orton has the only 4 men to win (or in Orton's case be awarded) the title and lose it in the same night. Andre still has the record for shortest reign, 45 seconds. Rey is the first Mexican to win this belt (he was also the first Mexican to win the World Title).

Ophidian Injured
This week, through a blog on CHIKARA's website, the Osirian Portal's Ophidian revealed that he was going to be out for several months due to a severely broken jaw he suffered a few weeks ago at an INDY show. His jaw is broken in 2 places and he will have to have his jaw wired shut for 30 days. Ophidian will not be able to wrestle in his upcoming 12-Large Summit match against Icarus, forfeiting it to Icarus and giving him the 2 points. This is coming off the heels of his longtime partner Amasis was forced to retire due to his severe injuries to his spinal injuries. It's been a rough summer for one of the more entertaining Tag Teams in all of American INDY wrestling. In his blog Ophidian vowed to return and win the 12-Large Summit as well as "make Amasis proud" by winning the Tag Titles with Hieracon.
