TNA Impact Wrestling
Knoxville, Tennessee (Knoxville Civic Coliseum)

Commentators: Mike Tenay & Taz
Report by: Josh Boutwell of Wrestleview.com

Just 3 days away from TNA’s biggest PPV or the year, “Impact Wrestling,” opens up with highlights from last week’s show and the revelation of Hogan agreeing to give the company back to Dixie Carter if Sting wins at BFG. Also, the Roode-Angle-Fortune drama is featured.

“Earlier Today” Sting and Hogan arrived, separately, and tonight they will have a contract signing.

Cut to the arena the World Champion, Kurt Angle, makes his way down to the ring. Angle calls Roode out so they can have one last “talk” before their Main Event showdown at BFG. Roode doesn’t make the champ wait very long either.

Roode comes down to the ring, alone. A “Next World Champ” chant erupts as Roode gets in the ring and then Angle congratulates on Roode getting through his matches with Fortune. Angle admits he did it to break Roode down mentally and physically and he passed the test…except for the last match. Angle says he “helped you out a little bit.” Angle says he’s not Kazarian, AJ, or Storm… he’s Kurt Angle the greatest wrestler to ever lace up a pair of boots. Angle says what Roode did to get to this match is nothing compared to what Angle has done in his career. Angle runs down his accomplishments in wrestling and says he’s dominated TNA on his own. Angle says he has to prove he’s the best everytime he’s in the ring, and at BFG he’ll prove to all the idiots out there that he is the greatest wrestler of all time.

Angle offers a handshake but Roode refuses it and grabs his own microphone. Roode says they both know what it takes to be a champion, it takes heart. Roode says they could go to BFG and tear the house down and beat the hell out of each other, but at the end of the night the man with the bigger heart will survive. Roode says in 1996 Angle had the heart to overcome a broken neck and win the Gold Medal. He says Angle has walked into the ring his entire career and had the bigger heart. He calls Angle a “freaking machine” and then says at BFG all he wants to do is find out who has the bigger heart. Roode asks who has the heart to take TNA to the next level. He says at BFG he suggests no games, no Immortal or no Fortune, just Roode vs. Angle for the belt to see who the better wrestler is. Angle thinks about it for a second and then agrees!

Angle and Roode shake hands and then stare each other down before Angle leaves the ring.

Angle stops in the entranceway and says he forgot something. Angle says Hogan have booked Roode in another tune-up match tonight. Tonight it will be Bobby Roode vs. Gunner…and Jeff Jarrett in a Handicap Match!

Crimson limps down to the ring with a steel chair and nails Joe with it! Joe bails out to the floor as Crimson swings it at Joe. Crimson looks like he’s wearing a walking boot. Joe grabs a microphone and says everytime one of them starts something and Joe tries to finish it, the other runs out to magically save their ass. Joe says he knows why because Crimson and Morgan are scared of each other and scared to fight each other so they get together like a couple of bitches and come after the alpha ass kicker. Joe suggests a Triple Threat at BFG! Crimson and Morgan look at each other as Joe says the choice is theirs and he says they can be an alpha male…or friends (mockingly).

In the back Angle approaches James Storm and Storm wants to know what he wants. Angle says Storm has had a whole week to think about how he could have beaten Bobby Roode if it wasn’t for Kurt. Storm says the only thing he’s been thinking about is how Kurt cost him the match by ramming his head into the steps. Kurt says he did that but it was his buddy who took advantage of him and pinned him. Storm cuts him off and he says he knows how Kurt plays these games and he knows Bobby didn’t have a clue about what Kurt did. Storm says the only reason he’s not whooping his ass right now is out of respect for Bobby because he’s going to do it at BFG. Angle mocks Bobby saying he had no idea that he attacked Storm. Angle sarcastically says “that’s great” and walks away. Storm punches the table and looks in the mirror.

Jarrett talks about the Handicap Match with Roode and he says Bobby won’t make it out alive tonight.

Tenay & Taz run down the card for BFG.

Yet ANOTHER stellar video package hyping up Bobby Roode is shown. This may have been the best one. He talks about how the fans can identify with him because he’s a hard working guy. Roode says since he’s been in TNA there have been so many guys who have come and gone as images of Booker T, Kevin Nash, and Mick Foley are shown. Roode says it’s time for a chance to bring a fresh face into the top spot. He says this will be a new chapter in his career and now it’s time to move forward in his career to gain something he’s wanted his entire career.

Now we switch gears as the focus turns to Kurt Angle. Angle says he waited 2 years to get the World Title back and he wants to hang on it more than anything. He says Roode doesn’t have the experience that Angle has and he’s holding the world on his shoulders with all the pressure. Roode is shown training and he says preparing for a guy like Kurt Angle is someone he’s never had to prepare for. Angle says you can’t expect Roode to face him for the first time and win it the first time. He suggests that if they have 100 matches Roode might win one. Roode says at BFG he will walk out the World Heavyweight Champion.

Over the past week it’s been reported that Kevin Sullivan was behind all of those video packages hyping Bobby Roode. That needs to be his job 100% of the time. Those videos have been amazing.

JB introduces Sting and Hogan to the ring for the contract signing. Sting and Hogan sit down at the table and Sting signs the contract. Hogan looks at the contract and signs it as a “Hogan sucks” chant breaks out. Hogan pushes the table over and then he says Sting has been dancing around him for over 30 years. He says they had a brief encounter but Sting was thrilled when it was over. Hogan says over all these years Sting could have found but now in the twilight of his career when he’s trying to help TNA out now Sting wants to come after him. Hogan says Sting wanted Hulk Hogan so he’s got the real Hulk Hogan now. Hogan says his wrestling career is over but for Sting to insult him and embarrass him the way he has this will be the fight of Sting’s life. Hogan says there will be no interference or no games, it will just be Sting vs. Hogan. Hogan offers a handshake and Sting accepts it.

Hogan says it will be Sting vs. Hogan, nobody else, but then Eric Bischoff walks out. Bischoff says they have one more piece of business. Sting laid his hands on Bischoff so if there is anything left after Hogan gets done with him then Bischoff will kick his ass. While Sting is looking at Bischoff, Hogan hits him with a chair! Hogan hits Sting with chops and right hands and then chokes him in the corner. Hogan talks trash to Sting as he continues to beat on him and Bischoff watches on.

FINAL THOUGHTS

Tonight was a little underwhelming for the most part.

I loved the opening segment with Angle and Roode and we can only hope they’re serious about no screwyness in the BFG match. I love that Angle was still playing mind games, especially with Storm. Roode looks strong going into BFG with the win over both Gunner & Jarrett. He was crazy fired up. I’m not too big on Hardy getting involved but he was really fired up as well. Haven’t seen Hardy like that in awhile.

Joe-Morgan was just there. That 3-Way won’t be anything special at all.

Anderson-Steiner was just there as well.

X-Division Tag was great and Kendrick looks good going into BFG.

AJ/RVD vs. Daniels/Lynn was a great match and AJ punking Daniels out was cool and then Daniels got his heat back by killing AJ in the back.

The Knockouts stuff was pretty bad other than how they all looked. I fully expect Velvet to walk out champion.

It was cool to see Christina Von Eerie finally officially in TNA. Too bad that match will be on the Pre-Show.

The Hogan-Sting stuff didn’t do anything for me but let’s face it the whole feud has done nothing for me.

The best thing about the show to me was the Roode/Angle vignette again, those things have been so awesome.
