SHANE DOUGLAS - FAQ
Who were the Dynamic Dudes?
The Dynamic Dudes were the typical pretty boy tag team of the 1980's. The
Dynamic Dudes were a team in NWA around 1989 that consisted of Shane Douglas
and Johnny Ace. The gimmick was that they were skateboards but since Douglas
and Ace didn't even know how to use them the fans hated the gimmick. The
team has only one big event match as Halloween Havoc 1989 where they lost to
the heel tag team The Freebirds who actually got a bigger reaction from the
crowd than the "dudes" did.
Why did he throw down the NWA World title?
In 1994 Jim Crockett's non-compete agreement with Ted Turner was up and he
decided to start promoting with the NWA again. So Crockett went to Todd
Gordon who was promoting NWA Eastern Championship Wrestling and ask him to
hold a tournament for the NWA Heavyweight title. NWA President Dennis
Coralluzzo thought that Crockett and Gordon were going to try to monopolize
the title(much like Crockett did in the 80's) and told them they didn't
have the NWA board's approval so he took control over the tournament. Gordon
was upset at Corzalluzzo for his power plays so Gordon and Shane Douglas(who
was decided to win the title) planned to have Douglas throw the title down
after he won it and break ECW from the NWA. The plan worked and Gordon broke
away from the NWA and changed his promotion's name to Extreme Championship
Wrestling. The incident gave ECW huge promotion and cost NWA a lot of
credibility. It also made Shane Douglas out to be a pushy wrestler that did
whatever he wanted and cost him credibility as well.
What happened between him and the WWF?
During Shane Douglas' time in the WWF around 1995 the real life group of The
Clique were pretty much controlling the WWF's bookings. Douglas was already
having pay problems with the WWF so when The Clique started complaining that
Douglas shouldn't win the WWF Intercontinental title from Shawn Michaels
Douglas became very upset. It was finally decided Douglas would win the
title from a forfeit because Michaels would not lose to Douglas. On the same
PPV though another Clique member Razor Ramon was decided to beat Shane
Douglas for the title so after the ppv Douglas was so mad that he threatened
to sue the WWF unless he was granted a release from his contract and was
allowed to work for ECW again. Shane Douglas vowed never to work for the WWF
again and it is believed WWF did the same.
Is he related to Paul Orndorff?
No. The rumor comes from the fact that Shane Douglas (real name Troy Martin)
was given the gimmick of being Orndorff's brother and was given the name
Troy Orndorff. Even though the two resemble each other a bit they are not
related at all.
Who were The Triple Threat?
The Triple Threat was a stable Shane Douglas started in ECW. It was very
sucessful and includes all these wrestlers in one time or another: Shane
Douglas, Chris Benoit, Dean Malenko, Bam Bam Bigelow, and Chris Candido.
Brian Lee, Franchine, and Tammy Lynn Sytch could have been classified as
members too.
The stable also was brought back in WCW. Shane Douglas, Bam Bam Bigelow, and
Chris Candido reunited but it only lasted about one week since Candido was
injured soon after and Bam Bam left TV.
It also should be noted that Shane Douglas does own the copyright to the
Triple Threat and that is why ECW has not used it since and why he was able
to bring it back in WCW.
Who were The Revolution?
The Revolution was a stable in WCW in the late 90's that included Shane
Douglas, Chris Benoit, Dean Malenko, Saturn, and at one time Asya as their
bodyguard and manager.
Shane Douglas basically made his return to WCW and stated that it was time
for the older guys to go and a revolution of younger stars would join up.
Benoit, Malenko, and Saturn then joined him. Asya joined the group a while
before they broke up. They feuded with the Filthy Animals and member Chris
Benoit himself after he left the group.
The Revolution didnt last too long though as Malenko and Saturn the two
members still in the group besides Douglas left for the WWF with Benoit and
Eddie Guerrerro. Shane Douglas almost went with them but since his bad blood
with WWF and Vince McMahon he decided not to try it and stayed behind.
