STEVE AUSTIN - FAQ

What is Austin 3:16?
At King of the Year 1996 Steve Austin fought Jake Roberts in the finals of the tournament. At the time Roberts was doing a Bible believing gimmick and would quote scriptures during promos. So after Austin beat Roberts in the finals Austin gave a promo where he said "You talk about your psalms, talk about your John 3:16.well Austin 3:16 says I just whooped your ass." After that night Austin 3:16 spread like crazy.

What was "The Ringmaster"? When Steve Austin joined the WWF in 1996 he was given the name of "The Ringmaster" and was managed by Ted DiBiase. The story was that DiBiase wanted a wrestler to carry on in the WWF for him and to carry his Million Dollar Belt. The angle started in January 1996 but by May of the same year Austin wasn't getting any heat from fans so he dropped the Ringmaster name and Ted DiBiase as his manager.

Why does Steve Austin hate Eric Bischoff/WCW so much?
Steve Austin's main reason for his strong dislike for Eric Bischoff is because of the way he treated him while in WCW. In 1993 Austin was teaming with Brian Pillman as the Hollywood Blondes. The team was very over with the fans but Eric Bischoff broke them up to give Austin the U.S title and matches against the World champion.

Austin was given the U.S title soon after and was then ready to fight world champion Ric Flair. Flair even wanted to feud with Austin in the summer of 1994 and then eventually drop the title to him but Bischoff signed Hulk Hogan at the time and Flair dropped the title to Hogan and his feud with Austin was dropped.

After Hogan's title win Austin was put into a feud with Ricky Steamboat for the U.S title. The two had a series of good matches with Steamboat winning the title. The two were going to have a final match at Fall Brawl 1994 but Steamboat suffered a career ending injury 3 weeks before and was fired by WCW. Bischoff awarded the title to Austin but then had him job the title to Hacksaw Jim Duggan in under 30 seconds at Fall Brawl. Austin didn't want to do the job but went along with it since he was still being promised the title shots against Hogan.

In early 1995 Austin was recuperating from an injury when Bischoff's secretary called him and left a message on the answering machine firing him from WCW. Bischoff then started bashing Austin in interviews saying he wouldn't ever be a star in wrestling and a bunch of other stuff.

After his firing Austin went to ECW and started his "Stone Cold" gimmick and making fun of WCW with skits about Hulk Hogan, Eric Bischoff and Monday Night Nitro. (renamed Monday Night Nyquil) After a while with ECW Austin signed with the WWF and became one of the most popular wrestlers.

How did he injure his neck?
At Summerslam 1997, Austin was wrestling Owen Hart for the Intercontinental title. During the match Hart did a tombstone piledriver on Austin with his neck bent in the wrong angle causing temporary paralysis to Austin. Austin finished the match and won the title but serious damage was done to his neck. Austin has never fully recovered from the injury, which is why he has changed wrestling styles from technical to brawler.

Who was Lady Blossom?
When Austin was in USWA around 1990 he was involved in a feud with Chris Adams. The storyline was that Austin had an affair with Chris' wife Jeannie Clark. Adams then would find a new girlfriend Toni Adams and they would then fight in the mix tag matches against each other.

The problem with the storyline was that Austin actually did end up having an affair with Jeannie and caused a divorce between Chris and Jeannie. Austin married Clark shortly after and Adams and Austin have hated each other since.

When Austin went to WCW in 1991 he took Jeannie Clark with him and she was renamed Lady Blossom. She couldn't get over with the fans at all so after a while she taken off television and basically had the role of Austin's backstage manager from 1991 until they divorced in 1999. He married Debra McMichael right after his divorce and she basically has taken the same role as Austin's backstage manager as well.

Why was Austin written out of the WWF in 1999?
Austin re-injured his neck right before Survivor Series 1999. He wasn't even well enough to fight at the one event so the WWF had to give the story that he was ran over. Austin had neck surgery right after and came back in October 2000.

Did Steve Austin ever refuse to fight anyone besides main event stars?
It was believed that Austin wouldn't fight anyone that he doesn't think is in his "league". In 1999 Jeff Jarrett left the WWF after being promised a short feud with Austin. Austin kept turning it down so Jarrett got fed up and left. Austin has also refused to feud with Chris Benoit, Billy Gunn, Kurt Angle, although that was a while ago, which isn't the case anymore, because he did fight Benoit and Angle.

The 1997 Royal Rumble was won by Stone Cold Steve Austin eliminating Bret Hart. But why didn't Austin go to the main event match at WrestleMania 13? Instead we saw Bret Hart vs. Stone Cold in a I quit match. Why?
For 1997, the WWF had planned for Shawn Michaels to face Bret Hart in the main event at WrestleMania 13 and for Bret Hart to recapture his title. Since Austin illegally eliminated Vader, Undertaker and Bret Hart to win the 1997 Royal Rumble, the plan was to have a Final Four match Vader vs. Taker vs. Hart vs. Austin and the winner would move on to WrestleMania and face Michaels. In February of 1997, Shawn Michaels went out on a Thursday edition of RAW and forfeited his WWF title, main reason was the unwhillingness to lose to Bret Hart at WM 13. So now the WWF title was vacant. WWF had to change the script. The winner of the final four match would win the WWF title instead of going to WM and competing for it. Bret won the Final Four and the title, but lost the title the next night to Sid to set up a feud with Sid and Taker for WM13. This led to the Hart/Austin feud.
