JERRY LAWLER - FAQ

What happened with Andy Kaufman?
In 1981 comedian Andy Kaufman started doing a serious of inter gender matches with women in the crowd. Kaufman then started doing interviews where he would trash wrestling fans. Finally wrestler Jerry Lawler challeged him to a match which Lawler won very easily but injured Kaufman's neck. In July 1982 Kaufman and Lawler appeared on the Late Night with David Letterman. The two were on the show basically to talk about their rivalry but it got ugly when Lawler started pushing Kaufman around. The segment ended when Kaufman got fed up, cussed Lawler out, and then walked off the set. The incident gave huge publicity to the two men and Kaufman returned to Memphis wrestling soon after as a manager and their feud went on for a while after.

Even though it was believed to be a real life feud at one time the whole thing was just a work. Lawler and Kaufman were actually friends in real life.

Did he rape a girl in 1993?
In 1993 a 15-year old girl accused Jerry Lawler of raping and sodomizing her earlier that year. Soon after Lawler was indicted but before the case could go to court the girl admitted that she had made up the whole thing. Lawler returned to the WWF right after and the whole thing wasn't brought up again.

How many times has he won the USWA title?
From it's start in 1989 to it's end in 1997, Jerry Lawler held the USWA heavyweight title 27 times which is not counting his titles won in CWA and WCCW.

Is he related to the Honky Tonk Man?
Yes. Jerry Lawler and Honky Tonk Man (real name Wayne Ferris) are cousins.

Did he get into a fight with Jim Carrey?
No. During the filming of the movie "Man on the Moon" which was the life story of Andy Kaufman stories were circulated that Carrey was getting into his character too much and attacked Lawler. The story was actually planted by the makers of the movie to make promotion for it. The incident was a work but like the original Lawler/Kaufman feud.

Who is Miss Kitty/The Kat?
In 1999 Jerry Lawler's real life girlfriend was brought in as a valet for Jeff Jarrett and Debra and was named "Miss Kitty". Lawler had been in a serious relationship for almost 10 years and was married sometime in the later years of their relationship. Jerry Lawler and Miss Kitty (real name Stacey Carter) broke up in 2001 and Carter is currently working to try to get half of Lawler's estate.

Did You Know?

Jerry Lawler has made history as being the wrestler with the most championship titles of all time. He has had more than 200 titles in his career.
