Why did Big Van Vader change his name to just Vader?
After Vader left New Japan Pro Wrestling in 1991 New Japan claimed it owned
the copyright to the Big Van Vader name and gimmick. New Japan won the case
and WCW called him Vader instead of the full name. The case didn't last long
though since the courts later said that due to the popularity of the Star
Wars movies New Japan couldn't own the Vader name.
What happened between Vader and Paul Orndorff?
In 1995 Vader got into a fight with WCW road agent Paul Orndorff about
booking I believe. Paul took Vader down and punched him with his one good
arm until it was broken up by other WCW workers. Vader went to WWF right
after the incident and WCW used the fight saying how much tougher WCW
wrestlers were.
What happened to Vader in Kuwait?
Vader appeared on the show Good Morning Kuwait in April 1997. The WWF was
doing a tour of the area at the time. Anyway, when the host of the show
Bassam Al Otham asked Vader if wrestling was fake Vader snapped and
attacked Bassam. Vader was detained in Kuwait for about a week after and
was allowed to go back to the U.S to have a trial. Vader was only given a
200 dollar fine and basically was told not to do it again.
Bassam filed a lawsuit against the WWF for using the incident on WWF shows.
The suit was believed to be settles out of court in 2000.
Why did Vader leave the WWF?
He was fired. WWF officials warned Vader to lose weight or be punished.
Vader kept gaining weight and increasing his health risks so the WWF decided
to fire him. He as fired in late 1998 and awhile later signed with All Japan
Pro Wrestling.
Was Vader going to sign with ECW in 1999?
Yes. Vader's first choice was to go to ECW and stay in the U.S. ECW owner
Paul Heyman only wanted Vader to job to ECW Champion Taz though so Vader
decided to go to All Japan Pro Wrestling.
