This week CMLL confirmed that Marco Corleone did indeed have to undergo knee surgery and will be out for 3-9 months to recover. The CMLL immediately vacated the World Trios Titles.
CMLL Announces 2013 En Busca de un Idolo Tournament
This week CMLL announced this years En Busca de un Idolo Tournament and the participants. The tournament will run from May 17th until July 12th and will again be a point driven tournament with two teams with “coaches/directors.” The tecnico team will consist of Fuego, Hijo del Fantasma, Stuka Jr., and Valiente with Rush as the coach and Negro Casas as the team’s trainer. The rudo team is Misterioso II, Sangre Azteca, Tiger Kid, & Vangelis with El Terrible as the coach and Virus as the trainer. Judges will be Tirantes, Tony Salazar, Ultimo Guerrero, & Brazo de Plata.
Titan Going to Japan
This past weekend New Japan announced the roster for their upcoming Best of the Super Juniors XX Tournament starting May 23rd and going through June 9th. CMLL’s only competitor will be 22 year old Titan. Dragon Gate/DG-USA star Ricochet is also going to be a part of it. The full roster is Jushin Thunder Liger, Tiger Mask IV, Ryusuke Taguchi, KUSHIDA, Alex Shelley, Rocky Romero, Alex Koslov, Tetsuya Bushi, Jado, Brian Kendrick, Taichi, Taka Michinoku, Prince Devitt, Kenny Omega, Titan, Trent Beretta, & Ricochet. – Before the Semi-Main Event Atlantis was honored with a video highlighting his career as well as hyping up the big Mask Match with Guerrero later this year. After Atlantis beat Averno clean in the 3rd Fall Ultimo Guerrero ran out and started yelling at Atlantis. Then suddenly someone wearing matching Ultimo Guerrero gear came up from behind Atlantis and jumped him. The other Guerrero was introduced as Gran Guerrero who Ultimo claims is his brother. It was rumored that it’s actually Taurus under a new gimmick. Taurus has been rumored to actually be the birth son of Ultimo Guerrero (though some have claimed he is the younger brother of Ultimo) and in the past has actually wrestled as Ultimo Guerrero Jr. in other promotions. He debuted last year in CMLL and is only 19 years old.

Crazy Billy el Malo Story
This week AAA revealed why Billy el Malo has been gone for some time. Billy says that a couple of months ago he was carjacked and during the carjacking the thief actually cut him. The cut was very deep and on his wrist. He lost a lot of blood and actually started hallucinating before passing out. The doctors that did surgery on his hand were able to save the hand but in the process injured several ligaments and tendons which then also needed to be repaired. He lost all feeling and movement in his hand but has started to regain it through physical therapy and expects to get it all back and be back in the ring soon. Lucha On Travel Channel
Lucha Libre was featured heavily on Travel Channel’s special “The Border Check.” The host actually visited the legendary Rey Misterio Sr.’s Lucha school and watched as students trained. He spoke with the elder Misterio and PWR’s promoter Gabriel Ramirez. The show was primarily focused on Mexican food but they also looked at Mexican culture including Lucha Libre.
FBI Raids INDY Show
In a bizarre Lucha story, last month the FBI actually raided a Texas Lucha indy promotion’s show on April 7th looking for a drug cartel boss and his brother. The kicker here? The cartel boss is rumored to be an indy luchador that goes by the name Imagen. His name is the drug world is Roman “Comandante Simple” Leal and his brother is Guadalupe “Comandante Tachas” Leal. Leal is said to be the boss of a local Gulf Cartel in Reynosa. He also wrestles in Mexico and southern Texas as “Imagen” (or some form of the name). The problem is there are several wrestlers that go by the name “Imagen” and at the show in Texas the man wrestling as “Imagen II” has wrestled under that name for over 20 years (it’s a family name in Lucha Libre) and he says he’s had problems over this very same thing in the past, but doesn’t want to change his name because of his family. Now the FBI believes that neither of the drug brothers may have even been in America at the time of the raid because of Guadalupe’s injuries he suffered in a fire fight in Mexico last month.
