Mike’s Quick Smackdown Thoughts

* They must have piped a lot of crowd noise into the broadcast because the crowd didn’t seem to be as bad as it was made out to be. They were apparently so bad that Vince McMahon himself had to come out to try to perk them up. The crowd was definitely into Jericho at the beginning though, and there was even a chant for Funaki. Stephanie tried to put a positive spin on things by saying they love the WWE Universe, but Jericho poked fun at them until they snapped. Triple H then went off on how Team Authority will win, and The Authority will be the ones laughing. It was an ok segment. Not really much to it other than them trying to pop a rating by having Jericho appear.

* I loved the interaction with Bray Wyatt and Dean Ambrose tonight. That was some really great stuff. Wyatt was absolutely on fire with his promo work. I’m glad to see that they have an actual story unlike the ill-fated Jericho vs. Wyatt storyline. Wyatt taunted him some more before telling him to follow him and receive the light he’s been looking for. Great delivery from Wyatt. How does he remember all that stuff and deliver it so spot on? If it wasn’t for Paul Heyman, he may be the best promo in WWE.

* Yes, it looks like Adam Rose is going to be feuding with The Bunny. This is a thing that is really happening. Tonight was the first night I can remember any of the commentators really wondering who is under the mask. I guess they’ll have a big reveal over who The Bunny actually is. Whoever gets saddled with that gig, I wish you luck. How in the name of all that is good and holy do you actually think you’ll have any type of credibility to make it all the way in WWE? No one gets into WWE with hopes of being “mid-card for life, brother” with no hope of a main event character. I’m not saying it can’t happen, but the odds are already stacked against you. I don’t know why I have a feeling it’ll be Sami Zayn or someone who really, really doesn’t need this gimmick. Someone’s career is about to be kicked in the groin right in front of our very eyes in the coming weeks with the unveiling of The Bunny.

* That triple threat elimination match for the WWE Intercontinental Championship was absolutely brilliant. Ziggler, Cesaro, and Kidd put on one of the top television matches of the year. There aren’t enough superlatives to properly describe how good it was. You really need to go and watch this match from bell to bell. I absolutely loved it. Tyson Kidd really proved something in this match tonight. All I can say is, “Wow.”

* The editing department must’ve missed the divas match when they were piping in cheers to the broadcast because that match was void of any heat whatsoever. That was pretty brutal to watch.

* The main event was a predictably weak affair with Kane and Ryback. There wasn’t anything too exciting about this one. The point was Ryback continued to defy The Authority, and they teased a possible future clash with Triple H. I’d actually like to see that one. Other than that, it was a slow, clunky end to the show.
