Rey Misterio Jr. and Lucha Underground News
It was confirmed that Rey Misterio Jr. was backstage during the “Ultimata Lucha” tapings but did not appear on camera. When fans came out after the taping a huge question mark had be painted over the “Lucha Underground” sign on top of the venue, a likely tease that Rey Misterio Jr. will be involved in season two. There may be something taped to happen at the end of Ultimata Lucha too. MMA announcer Michael Schiavello was on hand and doing commentary for Ultima Lucha. The Lucha Underground staff assured all of the wrestlers and staff that there would be a season two but no specific date set.

AAA Announces Lucha World Cup Teams
Finally this week AAA announced some more teams for the “Lucha Libre World Cup” event taping place on 05/24 in Mexico City. There will be eight teams with three of them being teams from Mexico, two from the United States, two from Japan, and one form “the rest of the world.” One Team Mexico will be known as the “Dream Team” and will be Alberto el Patron, Rey Misterio Jr., and Myzteiz. Team #2 from Mexico will feature three other AAA roster members that win Qualifying Matches. The last Mexican team will be “outsiders” that will feature Blue Demon Jr., Dr. Wagner Jr., and another mystery partner. The two American teams will be representatives from Ring of Honor on one team and TNA on the other. Matt Hardy has been announced of TNA’s team to be joined by two others. I would assume Manik and Tigre Uno are likely members of the team. All Japan’s team will be led by former WWE and AAA star Kenzo Suzuki as he leaded Tiger Mask III (Koji Kanemoto) and youngster Masamune. Pro Wrestling NOAH and All Japan will be sending teams representing Japan. Taiji Ishimori will captain NOAH’s team along with youngsters Atsushi Kotoge and Yoshihiro Takayama. The final team will be representatives from all over the world. Ticketmaster lists Johnny Mundo as appearing so he may end up being a part of the team from the rest of the world.

* NOTES *
– They announced that Ultima Lucha will actually be two separate episodes. The first episode will be one hour while the second one will be two hours.
– Cortez Castro & Mr. Cisco ran in during Mundo/Texano to cause the DQ. Alberto el Patron ran out for the save.
– The Mack upset Cage in a quick match and then the two brawled all around ringside. Dario came out and announced a Falls Count Anywhere Match between Cage and Mack at “Ultima Lucha.”
– Dario also explained the Azteca Medallions to the people. He said the seven medallions make up a title together called the Gift of the Gods. The holder of that title can challenge for the Lucha Underground Championship whenever and however they like as long as Dario is told in advance. All of the past medallion winners came out and placed their medallion in the title, except for Fenix, as Darios said that Fenix was unable to make it to the show so they will hold a Battle Royal with the winner getting Fenix’s Medallion. All of the medallion holders will face off in an elimination match at “Ultima Lucha” to crown the first Gift of the Gods Champion. Fenix ended up showing up right before the Battle Royal so Dario forced him to enter the Battle Royal and defend the medallion.
– Cage vs. Mack, Falls Count Anywhere, is the start of “Ultima Lucha Pt. 1” and the match was said to have been crazy. Cage ended up Curb Stomping Mack onto a cinder block to get the win.
– The Disciples of Death defeat the champs when the rudos isolated Ivelisse and targeted her previously injured leg.
– During the Main Event Hernandez actually Border Tossed Drago over the top and onto the lumberjacks on the floor. Drago eventually got the win with a Springboard Splash.

* NOTES *
– Dario came out before the taping started and mentioned how he started the very first episode of Lucha Underground with a $100,000 Battle Royal, so they will start “Ultima Lucha” the same way! Mariachi Loco shocked everyone by winning, last eliminating Cage.

– Pentagon and Vampiro was violent as hell with tables, thumbtacks, fire, and light tubes. Vampiro ended up being stretchered out but he stopped and came back to fight more before getting pinned. Pentagon revealed after the match that Vampiro was his secret mentor all along, and Vampiro said that he was finally ready.
– The Gift of the Gods Match was said to have been an insane match with Fenix pinning Cuerno to win the title. He will get a Lucha Underground Title shot in season two.
– Texano looked like he was going to beat Demon but then Cisco and Cortez ran out to interfere. Chavo then ran out as well and ended up screwing Texano over. Demon, Cortez, and Castro stood together as a new group.
– Muertes-Puma was said to have been great with them brawling all over the building. Neither Konnan nor Disciples got involved. Muertes won clean.
