AAA

Konnan No Longer Booking AAA, Speaks About Rey, etc.
This week Konnan revealed on MLW Radio that he was no longer the booker for AAA and that he was simply a producer/agent for the promotion helping put together matches and finishes. He has not appeared in Lucha Underground at all this season either and has only been backstage a handful of times. He said that Dorian and Joaquin Roldan are handling the booking in AAA completely now. Konnan also said that Rey Misterio Jr. would not be back in AAA until some “money issues” with Rey and the promotion have been worked out. He also mentioned that Rey would be open to a “part time schedule” with WWE in the future (I believe he has signed on for 3 seasons with Lucha Underground if I’m not mistaken). Konnan then ripped former AAA stars Argos and La Jarochita who recently jumped to All-Elite. Jarochita has been telling the media that Taya Valkyrie in AAA is getting paid than any other lucahdora because she is friends with Konnan, but Konnan went on to say that he doesn’t decide anyone’s pay and that Jarochita was “fat” when she started. He also said that she attempted to sleep around in AAA with people she thought would have some power. Argos said that Konnan was keeping young guys down in AAA but Konnan said that Argos was awful and hard to deal with. He said those are the reasons that he didn’t get pushed, and that All-elite wouldn’t even be using him at all if he wasn’t Myzteziz’s brother.

Rey Misterio Jr./AAA Money Issues
Furthering the comments Konnan about the relationship between AAA and Rey Misteiro Jr., website ProWrestlingSheet.com claimed that they learned from “sources” that the current issue between Rey and AAA is over unpaid money Rey believes AAA owes him. Supposedly Rey has not been paid for every trip he has made for AAA (he is supposed to be paid for every appearance whether in-ring or a media appearance) and AAA owes him a good deal of money. He hasn’t appeared for AAA since December and it doesn’t look like this situation is getting resolved anytime soon. The Wrestling Observer mentioned this week that Rey is under a two year deal with them so regardless of the issues with Rey and AAA he will likely still be around for season three.

More AAA Money Issues
The PWInsider reported this weekend that money issues, with other luchadors, have begun to pop up as well this year. During season one of Lucha Underground the AAA wrestlers working for Lucha Underground as well were being paid by AAA for those appearances. Lucha Underground would pay AAA and then AAA would pay the luchadors after taking a “sizeable” cut of the money. For season two Lucha Underground began paying the luchadors themselves directly with AAA attempting to pressure the lucahdors into giving the same sizeable cut as they were getting before. The luchadors feel like it is their money and they shouldn’t have to give any of that to (or at least not as much as AAA wants) to AAA. It has gotten to the point that at least some of the luchadors have thought about leaving AAA all together because of it, but they would also lose their spot in Lucha Underground as well. This sounds eerily similar to the issues that AAA luchadors had with AAA back during the WCW days. Antonio Pena and AAA were taking sizeable cuts of the luchadors money and then giving them their pay, and when it came time for guys to get new contracts WCW began negotiating with the talent themselves and cutting AAA out as a middle man. If I’m not mistaken this led to AAA having a falling out with several talents like Rey Misterio Jr., Juventud Guerrera, Psicosis, and La Parka among others. PWInsider pointed out that AAA has zero creative control in Lucha Underground but they do own a stake in ownership and they have control over what AAA stars come to Lucha Underground so this whole thing could result in AAA pulling guys from Lucha Underground that are refusing to give them their cut of the money.

Sexy Star Vacates Titles
Things just continue on the negative side for AAA as Sexy Star took to Twitter this week to publicly vacate the AAA Mixed Tag Team Titles she holds with Pentagon Jr. in AAA. She called the title “worthless” and said that she will not defend the title. She later came back and emphasized that she is not leaving AAA which was odd and Pentagon Jr. later posted, and then deleted, a tweet that said he would defend the title with or without Sexy Star. She isn’t wrong that the title is worthless, but you can say that about every single belt in AAA and this was very unprofessional of her regardless. AAA certainly has some issues going on in their company with dissension all over the place. Just to emphasize, though, how worthless each title in AAA is let me illustrate. The AAA World Title is vacant and Alberto del Rio was the last champion. He won the title at the end of 2014 and defended it a grand total of twice in AAA, the last time being in October. He also had one defense in Lucha Underground. Psycho Clown is the Latin America Champion which he won in August of last year. He has yet to defend that title even once. Taya won the Reina de Reinas Title in August of 2014 and has defended it just three times with the last coming in October of last year. That was her only defense in AAA, the other one came at an Indy show. Hijo del Fantasma won the Cruiserweight Title in August of 2014 and has defended it a grand total of four times. The last time he defended it in AAA was in March of last year, almost a full year ago, and the last time he defended it at all was at a May Indy show in Tijuana. Dinastia won the Minis Title way back in February of 2013 and has defended it six times since then with the last time coming in November of last year. He has defended the belt twice a year since winning it. Averno and Chessman just won the Tag Team Titles in January and obviously haven’t defended them yet, but the former champions Jakc Evans and Angelico defended it zero times after winning them in October of 2015. The champions before that, Pentagon Jr. & Joe Lider, only defended the titles once in the nearly year long reign with the belts. Cuervo, Zorro, and Escoria just won the Trios Titles in January but before that the last champions (Los Hell Brothers) only defended them once after winning them in June of 2015. Sexy Star and Pentagon Jr. won the Mixed Tag Titles, in which Sexy just vacated, back in April of 2014 and they never once defended them during their reign. AAA’s titles are exactly what Sexy Star said, worthless. Sexy Star later deleted her message from Twitter.

Lucha Underground Announces Season Three
This week Lucha Underground officially announced that El Rey has greenlit season three which will debut in January of 2017. Prince Puma has already confirmed he would be back for season three.

Havoc picked the Main Event but Dario said that he had to win one more match to earn that right, but if he lost the man that beats him gets the $250,000 prize. Dr. Wagner Jr. was introduced as the surprise, and managed by Famous B, and beat Havoc down to win the money.

* NOTES *
– Cage last eliminated Wagner to win the Battle Royal.
– Nikron is a new luchador with a cat themed mask. Sexy Star became the first female Gift of the Gods Champion.
– Mil Muertes won the Death Match with four consecutive powerbombs through tables.
– Aero, Fenix, & Drago win the Trios Titles after Angelico came out and caused Mundo to be pinned.
– Dragon Azteca and Black Lotus were having what was described as one of the better intergender matches LU has had until Pentagon Jr. came out and attacked both of them. Pentagon said he didn’t want to wait and wanted his title shot now!
– Matanza came out for the match with Pentagon. Vampiro interfered at one point giving Pentagon a barbed wire baseball bat, but it didn’t affect Matanza and he ended up pinning Pentagon.
– Daivari was revealed as having purchased a spot on Ultima Lucha and he faced the debuting Paul London.
– Rey and Puma had what was said to have been the best match of the season with Misterio pinned the younger Puma.
– At the end of the show Striker and Vampiro were saying their goodbyes for the season when Pentagon appeared and attacked Vampiro from behind with the baseball bat from earlier. Pentagon declared that now he is the true master and called himself “Pentagon Dark.” Years ago the second Pentagon (there have been more than five) would later go on his career to be known as “Pentagon Black.” I’m guessing this name is a nod to that and Pentagon was known in AAA as “Dark Dragon” before he became Pentagon Jr. so this may be him combining the names as a homage to both characters.

INDY & OTHER NEWS

WWE Releases Magno
This week the WWE released several NXT stars and one of the guys released was luchador Magno, who signed with the company as a developmental talent back in April of last year. He worked a couple of NXT house shows but never appeared on TV. Magno has had a pretty weird career in America with several disastrous situations along with a few good ones as well that seemed to finally get better when he got a contract from WWE. His first appearances on TV in America came as a part of Team Mexico in TNA during one of their World X-Cup events. He worked for ROH in 2009 a pair of shows in which he did very well and then was one of the featured performers of Lucha Libre USA’s season one on MTV2. He had a pretty good feud with RJ Brewer on the show that led to a Mask vs. Hair Match that Magno won before the show was canceled after just a few episodes in season two. He made his return to TNA in 2013 as a part of TNA’s “Gut Check” and put on a horrible performance in his match with Adam Pearce botching several moves. He went on to win the NWA Welterweight Title at the beginning of 2015 before WWE signed him. He should be back on the Indy scene in Mexico and Texas soon.
