AAA/LUCHA UNDERGROUND

Fenix and Pentagon Returning to PWG

This week Pro Wrestling Guerrilla announced the entrants for the 2016 Battle of Los Angeles Tournament and it will feature several Lucha Underground stars including AAA/Lucha Underground stars Pentagon Jr. and Fenix. Also, Lucha Underground stars Johnny Mundo, Sami Callihan, Jeff Cobb (Matanza), and Ricochet (Prince Puma) will be appearing. The other participants in this years tournament include TNA’s Trevor Lee, former WWE star Cody Rhodes, ROH/NJPW’s Kamaitachi (who appeared for over a year for CMLL), Mark Haskins, ROH’s Dalton Castle, Pete Dunne, Tommy End, ROH’s Adam Cole, Jack Gallagher, former WWE star Chris Hero, TNA’s Mark Andrews, Matthew Riddle, Marty Scurll, NJPW’s Matt Sydal, ROH’s Kyle O’Reilly, Zack Sabre Jr., NJPW’s Will Ospreay, and Jushin Thunder Liger. Last year AAA/Lucha Underground stars Fenix, Ricochet, Aerostar, Pentagon Jr., Drago, Angelico, and Jack Evans all appeared in the tournament.

AAA Announces TripleMania Date & Location

This week AAA officially announced that “TripleMania” would take place on 08/28 at Arena Ciudad de Mexico in Mexico City. It is unknown if it will be on traditional PPV or iPPV (or both) but it is very likely.

Sexy Star Starts Boxing Career

At a boxing event in Puebla this weekend Sexy Star appeared, unmasked, and announced she was going to enter the boxing world soon making her pro debut. Her husband is famous Mexican boxer Jhonny Gonzalez and she has been training with him for about two years now. She is still under contract with Lucha Underground it seems like she will still continue to work for them but that will be the only place she wrestles. She is going to box under the name Sexy Dulce but no date has been announced for her debut.

Ludxor Calls Out AAA

This week high flying young luchdaor Ludxor vented on Facebook about his struggles with AAAA over non-pay and refusing to pay for injuries. He said that there has been many times when AAA would force him to travel long ways in “inhumane conditions” and then not put him on the shows and not pay him. He also said that he had surgery that AAA refused to pay for and then refused to pay for the rehab that they promised they would pay for him. All of this is just more horrible publicity for AAA and just another thing that makes AAA come off like a horrible promotion for luchadors that aren’t big stars. Ludxor even made the claim that the big stars “get spoiled” while the younger or lesser of the stars are almost ignored. Ludxor is unbelievably talented as a high flyer and is only 25-years old, but AAA has never pushed him as anything more than an opening match high flyer. He hasn’t worked a show for AAA since April.

L.A. Park Calls Out Pentagon Jr.

After Pentagon Jr. won the AAA Latin American Title this week former champion L.A. Park came out publically and said that since he was never actually beaten for the title he should get to challenge Pentagon for the belt. L.A. Park won the title in 2011 but vacated it after never defending it and leaving AAA. Park has always had kind words for Pentagon and seems that he just wants to have a chance to feud with him (which would be incredible).

Prince Puma Gets Big Offer, Rey Misterio Offered New Deal Too

According to the Wrestling Observer, Lucha Underground star Prince Puma (Ricochet) has been offered a huge deal (somewhere in the neighborhood of $300,000) which would be paid by the El Rey Network themselves. The offer would also allow him to continue to work for New Japan and the Indies as Ricochet which affords himself to make even more money. The WWE is also interested in him and New Japan would likely be interested in signing him to an exclusive deal. This weekend he is taking part in the Ultima Lucha 3 tapings where he faces Johnny Mundo in a Title vs. Career Match with Mundo’s Lucha Underground Title and Puma’s LU career on the line. The way that match goes will likely give us a good idea of what his future holds. The Observer also claims that Lucha Underground has offered Rey Misterio Jr. an extension to his current deal, which is assumed to end after season four, but has yet to make a decision on whether he will sign it or not.

Aerostar & Drago in America

This past weekend Lucha Underground/AAA stars Drago and Aerostar took part in American promotion AAW’s “Killers Among Us” 06/17 event in Chicago, IL. Drago lost to Chris Hero and Aerostar was unsuccessful in trying to win the AAW Heritage Title away from fellow Lucha Underground star AR Fox. Both matches were said to have been great.

Lucha Underground 06/26 “Ultima Lucha Tres Night 1” Spoilers Results
1) A Unique Opportunity Battle Royal: The Mack wins
2) Street Fight: Ivelisse Velez def. Katrina
3) Mask vs. Hair Match: Fenix def. Marty The Moth
4) Gift of the Gods Ladder Match: Pentagon Jr. def. Son of Havoc to win the vacant title!
5) Handicap Match: Dr. Wagner Jr. & Famous B def. Texano Jr.
6) Hell of War Match: Killshot def. Dante Fox (AR Fox)
* NOTES *
– The Mack earns a shot at the Trios Titles with his win in the Battle Royal.
– Ivelisse and Katrina had a wild, bloody match where Ivelisse hit Katrina with her stone to win.
– Fenix bled like crazy in the Mask vs. Hair Match and Mariposa actually ended up turning on Marty in the match and Melissa Santos kicked Marty in the balls leading to Fenix hitting the 450 for the pin. He and Melissa shaved Marty’s head after the match.
– Pentagon Chokeslammed Havoc off the ladder through a table to get the win and the Gift of the Gods Title.
– The stipulation in the Handicap Match was that if Famous B and Wagner beat Texano that Famous B would own the contract of Texano.
– The Hell of War Match was a 2/3 Falls Match with different stipulations for each fall. It was said to have been brutal and even more insane than the Pentagon/Vampiro match from season one. The first fall was a First Blood Match, second fall was a Street Fight, and the third fall was a Stretcher Match. Fox won the first fall by throwing Killshot through a pane of glass which caused Killshot’s back to bleed badly. In the second fall Killshot hit an Electric Chair Driver into broken glass to get the pin. In the third fall Killshot hit Fox with a beer bottle knocking him off the balcony and into a ton of chairs that were stacked up. He was loaded on a stretcher and put into an ambulance.

AAA 07/03 “Sin Limite” TV Taping Ecatepec Results
1) Atomic Boy, Gotita de Plata, Lanzeloth, & Venum def. Herodes Jr., Soul Rocker, Super Fly, & Tigre Cota
2) Argenis & Australian Suicide def. Daga & Joe Lider via DQ
3) AAA Cruiserweight Title #1 Contenders Triple Threat: Fenix def. Drago & Aerostar
4) Los Fronterizos (Damian 666, Psicosis, & Bestia 666) def. Bengala II, Garza Jr., & La Parka Jr.
5) Triple Threat: Brian Cage def. Texano Jr. & Dr. Wagner Jr.
6) AAA Latin America Title: Pentagon Jr. def. Psycho Clown (c) to win the title!
* NOTES *
– Pentagon and Psycho Clown started the show off getting in a brawl.
– Venum defeated Soul Rocker in the opener and then Gran Apache ran out and attacked Venum.
– Los Fronterizos came out and interfered in the second match leading to a DQ win for the tecnicos even though they come down to mess with the PdM.
– The Cruiserweight 3-Way was said to be a crazy match with Fenix getting the win after a 450-Splash on Drago. El Zorro ran out and attacked Fenix and Drago while Aerostar was being loaded on a stretcher. He injured a knee ligament during the match though he said later on Twitter that it was just a strain.
– Bestia was the surprise partner for Fronterizos and he helped them get the win.
– Cage pinned Texano in the Semi-Main and challenged Texano to face him for the World Title.
– Pentagon paid tribute to Perro Aguayo Jr. in the Main Event by winning the match with Perro’s Diving Ghetto Stomp off the top. Psycho did an insane Super Mexican Destroyer off the top through a table during the match but the referee was laid out. Pagano then ran out with a barbed wire baseball bat and attacked Psycho. Pentagon is the sixth man to hold the title and this is his first singles championship in AAA.

AAA 07/08 “Sin Limite” TV Taping Mexico City Results
1) Big Mami, Fabi Apache, & Mari Apache def. La Hiedra, Lady Shani, & Taya Valkyrie
2) Dave The Clown, Hijo de Pirata Morgan, & Super Fly def. Garza Jr., Nino Hamburguesa, & Venum
3) Fenix def. Daga
4) Aerostar, Bengala II, & Drago def. Averno, Chessman, & Ricky Marvin
5) Damian 666, Psicosis, & Pagano def. The Psycho Circus via countout
6) El Mesias, Hernandez, & Johnny Mundo def. Hijo del Fantasma, Pentagon Jr., & Texano Jr.
* NOTES *
– Indy luchadora Big Mama makes her AAA debut in the opener as Big Mami. She is massive but is pretty horrible in the ring. She is the one that got the pin for her team. Maybe AAA’s way of replacing Goya Kong (except Goya Kong was far better).
– Dave The Clown’s TV debut as well. He has worked a few spot shows for AAA and all over Mexico in the Indies. He was trained by AAA’s Gran Apache (as well as being trained some by Monster Clown, Murder Clown, Silver King, and Abismo Negro before his death). Dave has appeared for ELITE but the last time he did he was so horrible in the match that Rey Cometa and Guerrero Maya Jr. got pissed at him and ripped his mask off (as a shoot) and he never returned to ELITE. Dave actually did appear on AAA TV once (or at least at a taping as I don’t believe it made TV) when he was sitting in the crowd and jumped the guardrail to hug Psycho Clown as he made an entrance in an attempt to work himself into a storyline in AAA. He is terrible. Gran Apache appeared during the match to distract Venum into losing.
– Fenix-Daga was very good as you would expect it to be. Hopefully this is the start of AAA doing more of these one-on-one matches with high flyers.
– Mari and Fabi Apache distracted the rudos in the fourth match leading to Marvin getting pinned.
– Bestia ran out during the Semi-Main to interfere for his family. Bestia set a table on fire at ringside and Pagano put Psycho through it. Psycho was unable to return to the ring causing the countout. He demanded a Mask vs. Hair Match at TripleMania but Psycho was unable to respond.
– Hijo del Fantasma make his return after several months of being on the shelf due to back surgery. Mundo beat Pentagon in the match and demanded a Latin American Title shot.
– If I had to guess about the TripleMania card I would say we are probably getting Psycho vs. Pagano (Mask vs. Hair), Texano vs. Cage vs. Wagner (AAA World Title), Pentagon vs. Mundo (AA LA), Averno & Chessman vs. Mari & Fabi Apache (AAA Tag Titles), and Fenix vs. Hijo del Fantasma (AAA Cruiser). They may try and get Rey Misterio Jr. to come back for this show as well.

1) Dinastia, Pimpinela Escarlata, & TBA vs. Lady Shani, Mamba, & Mini Psycho Clown

3) Pentagon Jr. vs. Fenix
4) AAA Tag Team Titles Triple Threat: Averno & Chessman (c) vs. Aerostar & Drago vs. Angelico & Jack Evans
5) Dr. Wagner Jr., La Parka Jr., & Psycho Clown vs. Brian Cage, El Mesias, & Hernandez
* NOTES *
– This is the first Pentagon-Fenix singles match that AAA has ever done. They have done the match all over the world but now we finally get to see it in a AAA ring. It should be excellent.
– This is also the return of Angelico from his most recent injury.

Thunder Passes Away

On Thursday (06/30), CMLL star Thunder passed away in his home country of Australia as a result of stomach cancer which he had been battling for months. Both CMLL and Thunder had kept the fact that he had cancer secret until a few days before he passed as it started to leak out with Thunder seemingly taking a turn of the worst. There were several rumors as to why the long teased Mask vs. Hair Match between Thunder and Ultimo Guerrero kept getting postponed but it seems as if complications with the cancer was the reason he disappeared from time to time off TV. Thunder, real name Luke Fordward, was an Australia native that began wrestling in his home country in the 2000’s and eventually worked for Super Delfin’s Okinawa Pro promotion in Japan before he began dating a Mexican woman (who he met when she was on vacation in Australia). The one ended up being the daughter of the legendary CMLL star and trainer Satanico and after she convinced Thunder to move to Mexico he began training in Lucha with his girlfriend’s father. He debuted in CMLL in 2013 and was pushed hard as a top star almost from the beginning. The problem was that Thunder was always very slow and clumsy, especially compared to the other luchadors, and never fully caught on to the lucha style. He had been feuding with Ultimo Guerrero for almost a year and a Mask vs. Hair Match had been announced more than once but never came to fruition. He and Satanico both walked out of CMLL earlier this year and it seems that Thunder had recently moved back to Australia after his cancer got worse. Many of CMLL’s stars have expressed their sadness at the passing but Thunder’s biggest rival, Ultimo Guerrero, had probably the best tribute. He said that he was obviously saddened by his rivals passing and that he will one day follow Thunder to finally have that Mask vs. Hair Match with him in the afterlife. Thunder was a horrendous performer but from all of the things we have heard about him outside of he ring he was a good man and I hate to see anything like this happent to really anyone. R.I.P. Thunder.

Dorada and Jinzo Work for WWE, Zumbi Does Not

This past week both CMLL’s Mascara Dorada (as Gran Metalik) and Indy luchador Jinzo (as Raul Mendoza) worked WWE’s Cruiserweight Classic Tournament. Dorada defeated Alejandro Saez (wrestler from Chile known as XL) and Mendoza lost to Brian Kendrick. Zumbi was originally announced as appearing in the tournament but was replaced by American Indy wrestler Mustafa Ali (who lost to Lince Dorado). PWInsider reported that Zumbi did not make the 205 lb. weight limit which seems very farfetched considering his size. Instead he appeared for ELITE as a part of their International Tournament. Later in the week Triple-H spoke to the Mexican media and confirmed that Zumbi was not allowed to appear in the tournament because of visa issues and the fact that they could not get the issues straightened out in time. In later interviews former WWE Champion Daniel Bryan had some kind words for Dorada and said that he would do well in WWE.

Titan Coming to Japan

This week NJPW revealed the lineup for the upcoming 07/20 Super J-Cup Tournament which will feature stars from all over the world. CMLL’s representative will be youngster Titan. He’s only 25-years old and is his second tour with NJPW (other than the FantasticaMania tours every year). He took part in the 2013 Best of Super Juniors Tournament. He will face NJPW’s current “golden boy” Will Ospreay in the first round so his chances of moving on to day two of the tournament are very slim. It should be a great match regardless though.

Stuka Jr. Coming to ROH

This week Ring of Honor announced that CMLL star Stuka Jr. will be coming for thier 07/16 TV Taping at the ECW Arena in Philadelphia to face former CMLL star Kamaitachi. This will be Stuka’s debut in ROH and the first time a current CMLL star ever appeared in ROH. ROH originally was going to bring in Dragon Lee for this match but he isn’t ready to return to the ring yet so CMLL chose to send Stuka instead. This and ROH stars coming to CMLL/ELITE recently seems to be the beginnings of the two promotions finally starting a relationship together.

NJPW Airing CMLL Event

This weekend New Japan announced that they would be airing CMLL’s Friday night Arena Mexico event this Saturday on NJPWorld. They are saying this is a “test Run” but if it does well then it could become a regular thing. That show already streams live on the internet by ClaroSports and airs on TV in both Mexico and America so this is just more accessible for Japanese fans. It will also be available to watch later on VOD.,

Santo Jr. Debuts

This weekend the son of Hijo del Santo, and grandson of El Santo, made his in-ring debut under the name Santo Jr. for UK-based Lucha promotion Lucha Britannia. He teamed with Magnifico II on 07/02 in a winning effort against two local luchadors. The night before he had wrestled under his “Tempestad” name (which he debuted under last year in London) but this was the first time he came out under the Santo Jr. name. He still has yet to wrestle in Mexico as it seems he is still in college. El Hijo del Santo has said in the past that he wanted his son to graduate college before wrestling full time (this is similar to that which Ray Mendoza told his sons Los Villanos so that they would all have fall back plans if wrestling didn’t work for them. Santo Jr. has spent the last two summers training in Japan with Pro Wrestling NOAH as well as training in London. He is much bigger than his father was at his age and taller so it will be interesting to see him in the ring when he finally debuts in Mexico (probably in the next year). Both Hijo del Santo and Santo Jr. are being billed for the 08/13 “The Crash” event in Tijuana which is also being billed as a TV taping. This would likely be the debut of Santo Jr. in Mexico and Hijo del Santo’s first match in almost two years.

Flamita in America

This past weekend former AAA star Flamita took part in American promotion AIW’s “Whats In The Basement, Klopek?” 06/17 event in Ohio. He took part in a 3-Way dance for the AIW Intense Title with champion Alex Daniels defending against Flamita and TNA star Zema Ion. Flamita fell in the match but the match was said to have been great. Laredo Kid was also on the card teaming with Bandolero in a wing against Gringo Loco & Skadye Jr. earlier in the night.
