Ring of Honor Newswire for March 22, 2011

Courtesy of ROHwrestling.com:

– Fans who attended “Manhattan Mayhem IV” last Saturday night will never forget the historic moment they witnessed when Eddie Edwards shocked the world and became the 15th ROH World Champion! Read more here: http://www.rohwrestling.com/news/eddie-edwards-captures-the-roh-world-title/. Edwards was able to upset former champion Roderick Strong and nobody saw it coming. Eddie Edwards not only captured the most prestigious championship in wrestling today but he also becomes the first man to hold the ROH Triple Crown (ROH World, ROH TV, & ROH World Tag Titles)! A HUGE congratulations goes out to Eddie Edwards!!!

– Of the current ROH roster, Christopher Daniels is the only wrestler capable of matching Edwards’ Triple Crown achievement as he has held the ROH Tag Titles in the past and currently holds the ROH World TV Title. When “Honor Takes Center Stage” on April 1st live on iPPV in Atlanta, GA “The Fallen Angel” Christopher Daniels will have his chance to dethrone Edwards and become a Triple Crown champion himself. Daniels recently acquired Truth Martini’s Book of Truth and decided to read The Book cover-to-cover in an attempt to gain knowledge and strategy on then champion Roderick Strong. Daniels has since thrown the Book into the garbage and now will have to refocus his approach. Daniels holds two victories over Edwards since his return to ROH competition and has been one of Edwards’ toughest opponents over the last few months. Here’s a look at what Daniels had to say following “Manhattan Mayhem IV”:

– Roderick Strong was very angry and belligerent after the match last Saturday night and has been unavailable for comment ever since. We will continue to seek out Strong to get comments regarding his future and plans going forward.

– Just announced for “Honor Takes Center Stage” (http://www.rohwrestling.com/news/the-biggest-weekend-in-the-lives-of-cole-oreilly/), Kyle O’Reilly & Adam Cole will face the two biggest challenges of their ROH careers! On April 1st, the young duo will take on the most decorated tag team in ROH history: Jay & Mark Briscoe! And then, on April 2nd, Kyle & Adam will go head-to-head with ROH World Tag Champions Chris Hero & Claudio Castagnoli! How will Cole & O’Reilly fare against the two of the best teams in ROH’s history? Check it out live on GFL.TV: http://www.gfl.tv/Events/Fight/Wrestling/Honor_Takes_Center_Stage_Both_Shows/968!

– Steve Corino’s road to recovery was put to the test more than ever over the weekend in both Plymouth and NYC. Corino was provoked and aggravated continuously by Mike Bennett & Brutal Bob and it resulted in Corino “falling off the wagon.” Corino’s demeanor was noticeably nefarious at times in NYC and the minor relapse saw aspects of his past personality such as the “Thumb in the Bum.” Ultimately, Corino fell victim to Bennett in the center of the ring and afterwards was beat down and laid out with a vicious piledriver courtesy of “The Prodigy.” Knowing about Corino’s distrustful reputation, Bennett arrogantly yelled for someone in the locker room to come save him from the beating and nobody came out to help. Bennett and Brutal Bob both left the ring as Corino lay alone and helpless in the ring. It was a painfully eye opening night for Corino as for over 3 months he has tried to do his best to reinvent himself and make amends with the pro wrestling industry and the people in it. Corino has focused on the younger generation of wrestlers in ROH in an attempt to guide them in the right direction which he feels is the exact opposite of what he has done for over 15 years. One of the men that Corino focused on aligning himself with was Grizzly Redwood based on Grizz’s integrity and heart. At “Manhattan Mayhem IV” Corino saved Grizz from an Embassy post-match beat down but neither Grizz nor anyone else saved him from Bennett and Brutal Bob. It then became obvious that after 3 months of hard work that still nobody trusts Corino, not even Grizz. It will be interesting to see what Corino’s next step will be in this difficult journey.

– Mark and Jay Briscoe came to “Manhattan Mayhem IV” last Saturday with a purpose… to fight and step it up in the tag division. Both Mark and Jay were highly aggressive and hostile in New York City causing the crowd to jeer and Rhett Titus to bleed. The overly forceful behavior of the Briscoe’s may have contributed to their downfall as ANX upset them when Rhett rolled up Jay. A huge brawl broke out after the match and nothing seemed to be settled as the fight continued in the locker room later in the day. We will have exclusive footage of the locker room encounter tomorrow on ROHwrestling.com.

– Ring of Honor will return to New York City on Sunday, June 26th for a special show at the Hammerstein Ballroom inside the Manhattan Center. – The Bravado Brothers managed to get on the show last Friday in Plymouth, MA and were successful however they were not as lucky on Saturday at “Manhattan Mayhem IV.” Both brothers were dressed and ready to go through the curtain after intermission last Saturday until Jim Cornette grabbed them asking what they were doing. The Bravado’s responded that they were on their way to the ring to issue an open challenge to anyone who wanted it. The Bravados and Cornette went back and forth and by the time both brothers were done talking to Mr. Cornette the El Generico and TJ Perkins match had already started. The Bravado’s hope to have better luck next time and wanted us to say that they are available for bookings at bravadobrothers@yahoo.com.
