NWS Internet News Update For Week Of 05/09: NWS Was True And Cool And Had Hart For Its Fans This Past Weekend (Who Thanked NWS With Two Sellout Crowds), A New Champion Crowned, A Former Champion Announces His Retirement, The Candido Memorial J-Cup Is Announced, And More.
Hello NWS fans! This is your weekly update on what’s happened, what is happening now, and what is going to happen soon in the nation’s leading family-friendly pro wrestling promotion, National Wrestling Superstars.
Upcoming Shows This Weekend
This Saturday night May 14th, NWS returns to the Union County area at the Kenilworth, NJ Veterans Center (33 South 21st Street, just off The Boulevard, minutes from The Parkway) with a 7:35pm bell time.
Former WWE Intercontinental Champion The Honky-Tonk Man (the greatest of all time, if you ask him), plus former ECW and WWE tag-team champion and current TNA star D-Von Dudley, from the famous Dudley Boyz tag-team, will headline an all-star card.
And generating just as much buzz among the local fans as these two TV legends, are two local pro mat stars who are former friends and now sworn enemies, “Tough” Tony Scorace and Steve “The Gipper” Gipke. These two have had a major falling out (and that’s an understatement) and have been tearing each other apart for months (along with a good deal of ringside property). NWS management has decided that the only way to keep this fight in the ring long enough to be settled is to surround the ring with other wrestlers to keep them from spilling outside, which means that the fans will be treated to Kenilworth’s first ever Lumberjack Match.
Other local stars will be competing in a big six-man high-flier showdown, as the NWS Tag-Team Champions The Jersey Shore Jocks (Mike Dennis & Chris D’Andrea) team up with rising phenomenon The Jersey Kidd against two more area residents and arch rivals “Too Hot” Steve Scott & Nick Talent and their partner the NWS Cruiserweight Champion Spyral. And in more local action, Jeff “Cannonball” Guerrero battles Snake-Eyez, with the popular “Hillbilly” Justin Blackwell as guest referee, plus appearances by international star Danny Inferno, “Mr. Entertainment” J.D. Smoothie, Ryan Angus, and much more!
Tickets are only $19 for adults and $17 for kids and seniors.
Tickets for this weekend’s shows are available by calling the NWS box office at (732) 888-1704. All major charge cards are accepted, and group rates are available for groups of ten or more. Remainig seats, if any, will go on sale at the door one hour before bell time.
Results From Last Weekend
National Pro Wrestling Superstars kicked off its huge two-show weekend on Friday night May 6th with a return to its favorite central Jersey venue, the Manville, NJ VFW Hall. With two mega-stars in the house, plus a member of pro wrestling’s most famous family, a sellout crowd packed all sides of the hall (more chairs had to be brought out, as there were not enough for all the fans that piled in), perhaps the largest Manville crowd that NWS has ever seen.
Before the show, the fans were greeted by former WWE and current TNA/Impact Wrestling star Kurt Angle, former WWE star Carlito, and Hart Family member Smith Hart (oldest brother of WWE star Bret “Hit Man” Hart).
NWS ring announcer Johnny Falco and the lovely Destiny were the co-hosts for the evening.
Match #1 – Tag Team Match: NWS Junior Heavyweight Champion “The Love Machine” Nicky Oceans & Johnny Knockout (with the leader of the Sicilian Mob, Don Caruso) vs. Paco Libro & El Fantastico.
Libro and Fantastico used their luchador skils to keep pace with their veteran opponents, but the experience factor ruled the day. Towards the end, Libro and Fantastico went for a double-team clothesline on Knockout, but Oceans tripped up Libro and pulled him to the floor and bodyslammed him. Meanwhile, Knockout hit an airborne RKO on Fantastico and got the 1-2-3.
Winners: “The Love Machine” Nicky Oceans & Johnny Knockout
Match #2 – NWS Cruiserweight Title Match: Spyral (champion) vs. Chikara star Frightmare (challenger)
This was a rematch from last March in Long Branch, NJ. The two veteran high-fliers kept the fans on the edge of their seats, and Frightmare came close to upsetting the champion many times, giving Spyral his biggest challenge to date since winning the title. Towards the end, Frightmare hit a Hurricanrana from the top rope and seemed poised to get the victory. But Spyral snuck under the ring, and when Frightmare went after him, Spyral appeared to spit some liquid into Frightmare’s face. Spyral then dragged the blinded Frightmare into the ring, and flattened him with a 450-splash from the top rope for the 1-2-3.
Winner and still NWS Cruiserweight Champion: Spyral
Managers Don Caruso and Romulus The Great came out to the ring, along with “The Love Machine” Nicky Oceans, Danny Inferno, and Judas Young. Romulus made fun of former WWE & current TNA/Impact star Kurt Angle, saying that he could not have been an Olympian, as he wasn’t from Mount Olympus. Danny Inferno promised to avenge the loss against former WWE star Carlito that claimed was “stolen” from him last weekend, and Judas Young said that Lumberjack Match or not, he would defeat the hometown fan favorite Ice Pick tonight. NWS management decided they had heard enough, and had Security eject the wrestlers and managers from the ring
Match #3 – NWS Tag-Team Title Match: The Jersey Shore Jocks (Mike Dennis & Chris D’Andrea, champions) vs. “Mr. Entertainment” J.D. Smoothie & “High Definition” Chris Steeler (challengers, with manager Romulus The Great)
Smoothie and Steeler were clearly up to the challenge, and the match was a wild affair inside and outside the ring. Towards the end, all four men looked to end the match. D’Andrea hit a standing moonsault on Smoothie, but Steeler broke up the pin and hit an uranage on D’Andrea. Dennis broke up the pin attempt and leveled Steeler with an RKO. Smoothie broke up the pin attempt and hit Dennis with a Pedigree, but D’Andrea broke up that pin attempt with an RKO. A frustrated Romulus signaled to the back and out came Nicky Oceans, Johnny Knockout, and Team Thunder Horse (Indian Chief Draven & Jack Spade) who all ran into the ring and attacked Dennis and D’Andrea. The referee immediately called for the bell.
Winners (by disqualification) and still NWS Tag-Team Champions: The Jersey Shore Jocks.
Romulus’ goons continued the beatdown of The Jocks, with Danny Inferno and Judas Young joining the fray. Rich “Ice Pick” Lowinski tried to run in to help the Jocks, but was overwhelmed by the opposition. Then out from the back came former WWE star Carlito and former WWE & current TNA/Impact star Kurt Angle, and Romulus and his goons beat a hasty retreat to the outside. Inferno promised to finish off Carlito later that night, and also promised Angle that he would remember his interference tonight. Angle questioned Inferno’s courage with him being outside the ring surrounded by his friends.
During intermission, both Carlito and Kurt Angle posed for pictures in the ring with the fans, something NWS never gets tired of reminding the fans that WWE would never do at Madison Square Garden, the Meadowlands, or any other venue.
Match #4 – Lumberjack Grudge Match: Rich “Ice Pick” Lowinski vs. Judas Young
Lumberjacks: Corvis Fear, El Fantastico, J.D. Smoothie, Chris Steeler, The Jersey Shore Jocks (Mike Dennis & Chris D’Andrea), Michael Richard, Cannonball.
This was the latest grudge match in the ongoing feud between Ice Pick and Judas. Judas’ veteran skills dominated early, but Ice Pick powered back and kept the match even. The Lumberjacks did their work well, keeping the action in the ring. Towards the end of the match, Ice Pick was on the offense and tried to finish off Judas with a powerslam, but his back gave out. Judas, with J.D. Smoothie’s help, removed one of the turnbuckle pads, hoping to smash Ice Pick into it. But when Judas whipped Ice Pick towards the corner, Mike Dennis put his torso in front of the exposed turnckle steel, cushioning Ice Pick’s impact. Ice Pick then atomic-dropped Judas straight into the exposed steel face-first, then rolled him up in a schoolboy for the 1-2-3.
Winner: Rich “Ice Pick” Lowinski.
Before the next match, former NWS Jersey Shore and Junior Heavyweight Champion Myke “G.Q,” Quest came out to the ring, on crutches with his right foot in a heavy cast. Quest informed the crowd that he had suffered a shattered heel last year, and had been hoping to be able to return to the ring, but the damage was just too great, and he had been informed by his doctors that he could not wrestle again. Quest thanked NWS for giving him all the opportunities and treating him fairly, and thanked the fans for their support. The fans gave him a standing ovation
Match #5 – Tag-Team Match: Michael Richards & Cannonball vs. Team Thunder Horse (Indian Chief Draven & “The Warrior” Jack Spade, with manager Romulus The Great)
This was a battle of the big men, and was a back and forth matchup of power all around. After Draven and Spade double-teamed Cannonball for several minutes, Richards tagged in and cleaned house. After Richards avalanche’d Draven in the corner, followed by a Cannonball smash from Cannonball, a frustrated Romulus seized a Wet Floor sign and tried to get it to his wrestlers, but was stopped by the referee. Spade however took advantage of the distraction to pick up another Wet Floor sign and nail Cannonball and Richards with it. Draven covered the semi-conscious Cannonball as the referee turned around, saw the cover, and counted 1-2-3.
Winners: Team Thunder Horse
MAIN EVENT – Return Match From Last Weekend: Former WWE star Carlito vs. Danny Inferno (with manager Don Caruso)
Carlito came to the ring eating his trademark apple. Inferno, knowing what usually happens, seized the apple and threw it away. But Carlito had apparently eaten enough, as Inferno received a faceful of chew-up apple, to the crowd’s delight. A furious Inferno attacked Carlito, and the match was on. The two pretty much picked up where they had left off last weekend, brawling with each other inside the ring, and even took the fight outside the ring all the way to the merchandise vendor tables in the back of the hall. They eventually returned to the ring, and the fight continued with neither having a clear advantage. Towards the end, Inferno had Carlito positioned for a superplex, but Carlito threw him off and hit a flying splash on Inferno, but only got a two-count. Carlito picked Inferno up and positioned himself behind him to deliver a Backstabber, but Inferno knew it was coming, and hit Carlito with a back kick low blow. Inferno went to the top rope and delivered a flying elbow, but only got a two-count. Inferno tried to get Carlito up for an Inferno Driver, but Carlito slipped off and was readying Inferno for another Backstabber attempt, when Johnny Knockout came out and jumped onto the ring apron. While the referee was distracted by Knockout, Nicky Oceans ran into the ring and slugged Carlito in the jaw. Inferno then delivered an Inferno Driver to the stunned Carlito,and the referee turned around, saw the cover, and counted the 1-2-3 for Inferno.
Winner: Danny Inferno.
Immediately after the match was over, Kurt Angle came out to the ring and tried to tell the referee about Oceans’ interference, but since the referee didn’t see it, he had no choice but to give the decision to Inferno. Angle called Inferno a coward for having his friends help him win (the actual word Angle called Inferno cannot be printed in a family-friendly publication). Inferno and Oceans tried to attack Carlito and Angle, but Carlito took down Oceans with a Backstabber and Angle slapped an Ankle Lock on Inferno, causing him to tap out in pain until the referee finally broke the hold and Inferno escaped. The crowd cheered Carlito and Angle standing tall in the ring as the show ended.
National Pro Wrestling Superstars concluded its huge two-show weekend in the Bayshore area of NJ, with its annual “Mother’s Day Eve Mayhem” spectacular at St. Catherine’s Church Gym in North Middletown, NJ, and once again, it was a sellout crowd, with every floor seat and most of the bleacher seats filled with happy screaming fans, the biggest NWS crowd in the Bayshore area in years.
Before the show, the fans were greeted by former WWE and current TNA/Impact Wrestling star Kurt Angle, former WWE star Carlito, and Hart Family member Smith Hart (oldest brother of WWE star Bret “Hit Man” Hart), plus a special surprise guest – current TNA/Impact Wrestling lady star Cookie.
Match #1 – Big Man Tag-Team Explosion: The Nigerian Nightmares (La-Fu & Ra-Fu, with manager Queen Bella & mascot Chilly Willy) vs. Steve “Monsta” Mack & Tapu
Monsta Mack and Tapu were not visibly intimidated by the undefeated Nightmares, and took the fight to them inside and outside the ring. Mack even bodyslammed the 400+ pound La-Fu, which impressed the fans. But after Mack missed a flying splash, he was crushed inside a Nigerian Sandwich, and then La-Fu climbed to the top and delivered an impressive 400+ pound moonsault to Mack, followed by the 1-2-3.
Winners: The Nigerian Nightmares
Match #2 – NWS Cruiserweight Title Match: Spyral (champion) vs. Johnny Knockout (challenger)
Knockout, a veteran of the Northeast circuit, took the fight to the champion, and kept him on his toes, nearly pinning the champion on several occasions. But the champion held on, and had Knockout down after a 450 Splash, but the bell rang before the referee could count to three, indicating the time limit had expired.
Winner: None (time limit draw). Spyral retains the NWS Cruiserweight Title.
Match #3 – NWS Heavyweight Title Match: Rampage Rogers (champion, with career advisor Corey Havoc) vs. “Outlaw” Shane O’Brien (challenger)
The crowd was stunned to see Rogers have his former rival for the title Havoc in his corner. And Havoc was indeed the difference maker in this match, distracting the challenger and getting in shots whenever possible. Towards the end, O’Brien put down Rogers with a belly-to-belly suplex and went up to the top rope to deliver the finishing blow, when Havoc jumped on the ring apron and hit O’Brien with the title belt. Rampage hit a crucifix slam on the stunned O’Brien, and covered him for the 1-2-3.
Winner and still NWS Heavyweight Champion: Rampage Rogers
NWS announced they would return to the Bayshore area on Saturday night August 6th, at the New Point Confort Fire Company Hall in nearby Keansburg, NJ, and that night will be the 2011 Chris Candido Memorial J-Cup Tournament, featuring the annual classic tournament with the industry’s best high-fliers, plus appearances by former ECW stars Tommy Dreamer and James “Nunzio” Maritato.
Hart Family member Smith Hart greeted the fans, and he and the fans paid tribute to his late brother Owen Hart whose birthday it was that night.
The leader of the Sicilian Mob, Don Caruso came out with his entire entourage of NWS Heavyweight Champion Rampage Rogers, NWS Junior Heavyweight Champion “The Love Machine” Nicky Oceans, Danny Inferno, “Corrupted” Corey Havoc, “Mr. Entertainment” J.D. Smoothie, and Jumping Joey Janela. Inferno was carrying a handful of “gold medals”, and insisted that despite what former WWE & current TNA/Impact star Kurt Angle said, he and Nicky Oceans were the only true gold medal wrestlers in the house. Oceans said that he will beat former WWE star Carlito in the main event tonight, and that he made sure the contract has no room for Kurt Angle to be anywhere near ringside. Caruso and his cadre then left ringside to the delight of the fans.
Match #4 – NWS Tag-Team Title Match: The Jersey Shore Jocks (Mike Dennis & Chris D’Andrea, champions, with TNA/Impact star Cookie & mascot Chilly Willy) vs. “Mr. Entertainment” J.D. Smoothie & Jumping Joey Janela (challengers)
Smoothie and Janela seemed out of synch early in the match, as they were befuddled by Dennis and D’Andrea’s teamwork. But after D’Andrea missed a flying splash, the two chellengers gor their act together and worked him over for several minutes. But D’Andrea held on, and after both men took each other down with a double clothesline, Dennis was tagged in and cleaned house on both oppoenents. The champions hit double RKO’s on the challengers, and went up to the top to deliver their Coast-to-Coast finishers, when Rampage Rogers and Corey Havoc ran down to the ring, jumped on the ring apron, and knocked them off. The referee saw that and immediately called for the bell.
Winners (by disqualification) and still NWS Tag-Team Champions: The Jersey Shore Jocks.

Carlito promised he would show Oceans just how dirty he could be later on that night.

Match #5 – For the vacant NWS Hardcore Title: Judas Young vs. “Corrupted” Corey Havoc (with career advisor Rampage Rogers)
The fans were advised to stay in their seats, and it was good advice, as this was truly a no-hold-barred brawl. Despite being outnumbered two-to-one (Rampage’s interference was totally legal as this was under Hardcore Rules), Judas, a former Hardcore Champion, held his own. The two battled all over the building, smashing each other with chairs, cooking utensils, and even such elaborate objects as fly-swatters and even a toy soldier statue. At one point they battled all the way into the Men’s Room, and emerged with a waste basket over Havoc’s head. Towards the end, with Judas dominating the match, Rampage tried to take out Judas by throwing powder into his eyes, but Judas ducked and the referee caught it instead, and was temporarily blinded. Havoc seized Judas and held him as Rampage picked up a Wet Floor sign and swung it at him, but Judas fought his way out and leveled both of them with the sign. He tried to cover Havoc but the referee was still down and blinded. When Judas went to revive the referee, Rampage threw a steel chair into the ring and Havoc nailed Judas with it. The groggy referee saw Havoc cover Judas and counted 1-2-3.
Winner and *NEW* NWS Hardcore Champion: “Corrupted” Corey Havoc
Match #6 – Tag-Team Match: Richard Michaels & El Diablo vs. Michael Reigns & Shock
Reigns and Shock had been bitter rivals for years, so this appeared to be an unusual pairing. Reigns and Shock held the advantage from the start, and were dominating El Diablo, but could not agree over who would get the pinfall, to the point where they actually interrupted each other’s pin attempts. This eventually led to them shoving each other, and it broke down into the two of them brawling outside the ring and all the way back to the locker room as the referee counted them both out.
Winners (by countout): Richard Michaels & El Diablo
MAIN EVENT – Grudge Match: Former WWE star Carlito vs. “The Love Machine” Nicky Oceans (with Don Caruso)
Oceans had been signed to this match as a result of his attacking a fan in Edison, NJ last month. The two fought a pitched battle inside and outside the ring, with Oceans holding his own against the veteran Carlito. Several minutes into the match, Oceans tried to pitch Carlito into the corner, but Carlito reversed it and pitched Oceans into the opposite corner, where referee Kenny Edwards was, knocking him out cold. Carlito took Oceans down with an RKO, but by the time replacement referee Mike Jones came into the ring, Oceans kicked out. Carlito regained the upper hand, and after a flying elbow had Oceans positioned for a Backstabber, but Oceans shoved Carlito off, right into referee Jones, who was also knocked out. Referee Jimmy Storm came in to replace Jones, and this time it was Oceans with the upper hand working over Carlito’s knee. Oceans eventually went for a superkick, but Carlito ducked and the superkick took out referee Storm. (Three referees down, an NWS record!) Carlito hit a flying splash on Oceans as Don Caruso came into the ring wearing a referee’s shirt, apparently having assumed the referee’s job himself. Caruso refused to count Carlito’s pin on Oceans, and instead signaled for Danny Inferno and J.D. Smoothie to come into the ring and attack Carlito. But then out of the locker room came Kurt Angle, who jumped into the ring, nailed Don Caruso, and took off his shirt to reveal a referee’s shirt underneath! As Oceans got in Angle’s face to argue, Carlito came up from behind and hit a Backstabber on Oceans, and Angle counted the 1-2-3 pin for Carlito.
Winner: Carlito
Danny Inferno and J.D. Smoothie and Rampage Rogers and Corey Havoc ran into the ring to try and attack Carlito and Angle, but were all driven off. Angle seized Inferno and slapped an ankle lock on him. Inferno tapped out from the pain, and limped out of the ring, and Angle and Carlito stood tall in the ring with the crowd cheering as the show closed.

Saturday night May 21st, NWS returns (after a long absence) to the South Brunswick, NJ High School Gym (750 Ridge Road in Monmouth Junction, minutes from U.S. Route 1) with a 7:35pm bell time.
A literal cornucopia of former WWE and ECW TV wrestling legends will be on hand… and “cornucopia” may be an understatement, as no less than *SEVEN* TV legends are scheduled to be on hand. Names like former WWE tag-team champion and WrestleMania legend (since the very first WrestleMania, in fact) Nikolai Volkoff, Samoan wrestling family member and former WWE “Master Of The Stinkface” the huge Rikishi, former WWE “Spirit Squad” member Kenny Dykstra, and recent WWE Hall Of Fame inductee, the two-by-four swinging, flag-waving patriotic “Hacksaw” Jim Duggan. Other legends joining the fray include the hulking former WWE monster Snitsky, former ECW star and tag-team champion “Dastardly” Danny Doring, and the WWE’s former ultimate comic The World Famous TV Wrestling Clown.
In addition to all those legends, for NWS’ first appearance in South Brunswick in years, there will also be plenty of regional and local pro mat stars.
The NWS Tag-Team Titles will be on the line as champions The Jersey Shore Jocks (Mike Dennis & Chris D’Andrea) will face the challenge of arch rivals and number-one contenders “Too Hot” Steve Scott & Nick Talent. Plus, the vacant NWS Jersey Shore Title will be up for grabs by no less than four contenders, “Mr. Entertainment” J.D. Smoothie, Jumping Joey Janela, current NWS Cruiserweight Champion Spyral, and The Jersey Kidd, as they compete in a wild Four-Corners Tornado Match.
NWS Junior Heavyweight Champion “The Love Machine” Nicky Oceans will also be in action in South Brunswick, along with the 400+ pound “Nigerian Nightmare” La-Fu, international star Danny Inferno, “Corrupted” Corey Havoc, Smith James, and more, including special guest managers, South Brunswick’s own Mr. Botello and Mr. Luca.
Tickets are only $25 for V.I.P reserved ringside seats and $18 for bleacher seats.
Saturday night June 4th, NWS returns to Stirling, NJ’s Long Hill Township Community Center (264 Warren Avenue, just off Valley Road, minutes from I-78) with a 7:35pm bell time.
Headlining this big event will be two former WWE TV legends, each former members of championship tag-teams. From the legendary Hart Foundation, it will be the maniacal Jim “The Anvil” Niedhart, and all the way from the first WrestleMania (and many since then), it’s the Russian giant (who’s now all-American) Nikolai Volkoff.
The fans will also be treated to Stirling’s first ever Lumberjack Match, plus a falls-count-anywhere inter-gender tag-team match, and much more!
Tickets are only $20, and all seats are ringside.
