ROH TV Taping Results-8/13/2011 Chicago Ridge, IL by Jason “JerseyViper” Namako

Hello everyone, JerseyViper here with the results from the 1st set of Ring of Honor Tapings as part of Sinclair Broadcasting. Couple pre-show notes before we get underway. The show is being done as a 6 camera shoot, a lighting truss was brought in, new graphics were used for the talent, as well as a new 20 by 20 ring and barriers that had the new ROH logo, and the people handling the backstage duties were Delirious, Jim Cornette, Jerry Lynn, and Daizee Haze. Finally, former WWE Divas Maria Kanellis and Jackie Haas-Gayda were backstage as well. Now, with that out of the way, let’s get on to the taping results:

Before the show got underway, ROH Executive Producer Jim Cornette came out to thank the fans for coming out to the show, also announcing that the show will be available online for free when it debuts on 9/24 on ROHWrestling.com, as well as asking the fans to keep their chants “TV Friendly”, which got a lot of boos from the crowd.
In the dark match, Grizzly Redwood defeated Tony Kozina with a rollup.

Episode 1 (will air on 9/24)

ROH announcer Kevin Kelly came out and welcomed the fans to the show. Kelly said that the ROH Tag Team Titles will be the main event of the 1st show as Wrestling’s Greatest Tag Team defend against the Kings of Wrestling. Kelly then wanted to bring out his new broadcast partner, that turned out to be former Ring of Honor World Champion Nigel McGuinness, making his return to the company after 2 years. Nigel got a huge reaction from the crowd as he came out. Nigel thanked the fans for their support during his career in ROH, “but it’s not about him, it’s about the wrestlers in the back so let’s get on with the show”. And with that, they began with the opening contest on the 1st ROH on Sinclair Broadcasting episode.

Match Number One in a Tag Team Grudge Match: Adam Cole & Kyle O’Reilly(now being dubbed as FutureShock) defeated The Bravado Brothers by pinfall.
Nigel went to interview a fan about who would win the tag title match and the fan said the champs would retain.

Main Event for the ROH World Tag Team Titles: Wrestling’s Greatest Tag Team(Charlie Haas & “The Gold Standard” Shelton Benjamin)(c) defeated The Kings of Wrestling(“That Young Knockout Kid” Chris Hero & “Very European” Claudio Castangoli) w/Shane Hagadorn & “The Queen of Wrestling” Sara Del Rey by pinfall to retain the titles when Benjamin pinned Hero with a flying clothesline off of Haas’ shoulders.

Episode 2 (will air on 10/1)

ROH Executive Producer Jim Cornette comes out and brings out ROH Tag Team Champions Wrestling’s Greatest Tag Team for an interview. Cornette said that they proved their excellence with their win last week over the Kings of Wrestling but one team that wants to face them are the Briscoes. Shelton Benjamin said that they have beat all the top teams in ROH, including the Briscoes but they attacked them and laid them out in NYC. Benjamin said that it makes him mad that they haven’t been given a chance to get to the Briscoes. Cornette said they were fined $5,000. Benjamin said, “So what?” Haas said that his own father had never beaten him as bad as the Briscoes did in NYC. Cornette said they won’t wrestle the champs unless the titles are on the line. Haas & Benjamin agreed to put the titles on the line. Cornette said he and ROH aren’t going to reward the Briscoes for what they did. Haas & Benjamin vowed to get their hands on the Briscoes, or else.

Match Number One: “The Prodigy” Mike Bennett w/”Brutal” Bob Evans defeated Jimmy Jacobs w/”The King of Old School” Steve Corino by pinfall after hitting the Side Effect. After the match, Bennett shakes Jacobs’ hand, however also mocking Corino, who in turn wanted to fight Bennett, his old rival, but Evans backed Bennett off and got him to the back.
Nigel then interviewed a fan asking them their prediction on the El Generico vs Jay Lethal TV Title match that would main event the 2nd episode.

Main Event for the ROH TV Title: Jay Lethal defeated “The Generic Luchador” El Generico(c) to win the title by pinfall after hitting the Lethal Combination. The match had originally ended in a 15 minute time-limit draw, however Jim Cornette came out and gave them 3 more minutes, and Lethal got the pinfall a minute or so in.

In another dark match, Mike Sydal(the little brother of Evan Bourne) defeated Mr. Ernesto Osirius by pinfall after hitting a splash off the top rope after interference from Barrister R.D. Evans backfired.

Episode 3 (will air on 10/8)

Jim Cornette comes out and brings out the Briscoes. Cornette said this was the first time they’ve seen each other since the State Athletic Commission in New York City fined them $5000. The Briscoes said that money could have bought a lot of beer and bullets, but money is money and you can’t take it with you. They said the important thing is that they want the belts that they made famous back and they want to know when Charlie Haas and Shelton Benjamin would stop being cowards. Cornette said that they will not get the title shot because you can’t reward what they did last time. So, Cornette will compromise. The Briscoes will fight the All Night Express and the winners will become the top contenders. Jay Briscoe said that they beat the Express already in different matches and that they are the Briscoes’ bitch. Cornette told them to watch their language because they are on broadcast TV. The Briscoes warned everyone to man up because they are coming for their belts.

Match Number One: “The Project” Tommaso Ciampa w/The Embassy defeated Andy “Right Leg” Ridge by pinfall after hitting Project Ciampa(Powerbomb into a lungblower).

Nigel went to interview a fan to ask them their prediction of the ROH World Title match but instead the fan asked when ROH would bring Kevin Steen back. Nigel called the fan “Helen Hunt” in disgust.

Main Event for the ROH World Title: “The American Wolf” Davey Richards(c) defeated Roderick Strong w/Truth Martini by submission with the Ankle Lock to retain the title.

During the break between filming, ROH Ring Announcer Bobby Cruise brought out ROH COO Joe Koff, who thanked the fans for coming out to the show this evening and for their energy and patience throughout the show, as there was a lot of technical issues throughout the night from an audio standpoint.

Episode 4 (will air on 10/15)

Kevin Kelly and Nigel McGuinness intro’d the show before sending to a video piece on the Briscoes.

Match Number One in a #1 Contenders Match for the ROH Tag Team Titles: The Briscoes defeated The All Night Express to become the #1 Contenders to the ROH Tag Team Titles by pinfall when Jay pinned Kenny King with a rollup after hitting a low-blow while the referee was distracted.
After the match, all 4 men started brawling and had to be broken up by security. Jim Cornette and said that the while the referee’s decision is final as to who won the match, there is no #1 Contender to the ROH Tag team Titles because of the screwy way the match ended.

Main Event in a “Defy or Deny” Return Match: “Die Hard” Eddie Edwards defeated “The Unbreakable” Michael Elgin w/Truth Martini by pinfall.

After the match, The House of Truth tried to attack Edwards, but Nigel McGuinness ran in to hold them off. Nigel was ready to fight The House of Truth, but Martini sent his men to the back as Nigel raised Edwards’ hand to end the tapings.

So there you have it from Chicago and the 1st set of TV Tapings. ROH will tape their next set of TV Tapings on 10/1 in Louisville at the Davis Arena and will return to Chicago Ridge on 11/19 for a live even.
