RAVEN has given notice and informs Extreme Rising officials that he will return to the company –like it or not, Saturday, November 17th 2012 at the Golden Dome in Monaca, PA.
This may be the most controversial move to date for Extreme Reunion / Rising. First, there was the incident involving Sabu on 4/28 in Philadelphia, PA where he ended up unconscious in a bed at Frankford hospital and not in the ring for the sold out event –but then Sabu showed the World in June during an Extreme Rising double-shot that he still had “it” and was ready to bring it.
Then there was the Shane Douglas controversy where after the 4/28 Philly show and ridicule; pulled himself from active in-ring duty to concentrate on Extreme Reunion –now Extreme Rising, to focus more on tightening up the product and delivering two back-to-back homerun shows June 29th in Corona, NY and June 30th in Philadelphia, PA. Now due to circumstances beyond Extreme Rising’s control with the Pennsylvania National Guard Armory; Extreme Rising moved the November 17th event from Philly to the GOLDEN DOME in Monaca, PA –minutes outside Pittsburgh, PA –the home town of THE FRANCHISE SHANE DOUGLAS and the location of the most historic night (financially) for ECW where November to Remember 97 (now 15 year anniversary) took place live on pay per view. SHANE DOUGLAS does the unthinkable and puts himself back into the ring to headline the Extreme Rising November 17th event against Matt Hardy w/Reby Sky. This one is going to be talked about a lot leading up to the event as to the participation of Shane Douglas, his motives, and reasons for re-entering the Extreme Rising ring. Don’t discount the fact that Matt Hardy has already beaten one former ECW Champion in (Jerry Lynn 6/29/12 Corona, NY). Hardy feels he must go through the man who started Extreme, the man who was the epitome of Extreme, the one man he has never faced, the one man who he feels he must beat to move on in the title tournament of Extreme Rising to become thee man who will be crowned first champion. What better place for this main event to take place then in Shane Douglas’s hometown? Does “The Franchise” Shane Douglas have “one more run” in him? What would he give to be champion one more time? –in fact probably the last time in his career? And what happens if Douglas loses in front of his hometown –where the fans of Pittsburgh are hardworking and have supported him through good and bad?
And now RAVEN, who books himself on the event at the Golden Dome, to say or do as he pleases (so he thinks), will make his appearance to the dismay of his once loyal fans. What will he say? What will he do? What will the fans do? Fans in attendance on 4/28 in Philadelphia, PA were in awe of Raven as he made his way to the ring to deliver a “promo to remember”. Well he sure did that, and that was about it, as his new “flock” tried to overcome Pitbull Gary Wolf and Sandman. Raven left his flock disheartened and walked out of the arena to boos and heckling of his own fans. What about Raven’s peers of Extreme? There were guys turned off by what some feel as Raven’s unprofessional attitude, while many of the younger guys want to beat and discard of Raven to make room for their own run and not to have the roster clogged up by another “old guy”. What is Raven’s game? His angle? Does he really not care about the fans? Or is this just one big, elaborate set up with something much bigger at stake? Or is he just trying to bleed every last dollar out of his once loyal fans? We will know that answer to that soon enough.
