NIGERIAN WRESTLING BOARD OF CONTROL, SET TO TAKE NIGERIAN PROFESSIONAL WRESTLING TO THE NEXT LEVEL

The Board was set up via a Federal Government edict about the same period that of Boxing and Football were enacted in Nigeria. Its activities are mainly around the professional sports of wrestling. In the bid to accord it a functional status, the Federal government constituted and inaugurated the Board headed by one time Military Administrator of the then Mid ?Western Regeon, General Ogbemudia. When the General left to head the Nigerian Railway Board, the wrestling Board was reorganised by the Ministry of Sport.

Through the Ministry’s attorney, the body was formally inaugurated in 1991 with the then vice Chairman HRM Eze Everest Nnamdi Ofoegbu appointed as the Chairman. To accord it its full legal entity the Ministry went ahead to register the Board with the Corporate Affairs Commission presenting Trustees comprising credible Nigerian with tested integrity as members.

These members include; HRM Eze Nnamdi Ofoegbu , Alhaji Bashiru Yusuf Maitama Sule, Alhaji Ibrahim Fagge, Chief (Mrs.) Florence Ita Giwa, Chief Tomi Tokoya, and Chief Oliver Nwosu.

This registration procedure was completed on 28th day of October, 1992 with certificate No. 7042 and batch CAC/6/INCT.

The major aims of the board are; to regulate the activities of professional wrestling in the country and to streamline the activities of Nigerian professional wrestlers while the main activities are: Issuance of practicing licenses to all Nigerian professional wrestlers, corporate with relevant professional wrestling bodies elsewhere in the world in the area of improving the game, approve and sanction all pro wrestling championships in Nigeria, approve and organise all National wrestling championship title fights, rate on regular basis the Nigerian wrestlers, facilitate all international pro-wrestling event involving Nigerian wrestlers, Assisting processing traveling documents for all categories of professional wrestlers who wish to further their carrier, organise at least twice in one calendar year a national championship aimed at promoting the game, Act as middleman between the government and the wrestlers

According to Royal His Royal Majesty Eze Nnamdi Ofoegbu, the Chairman of the Board. a lover of wrestling who has been sponsoring the game over the years, ?Nigerian pro-wrestlers are talented and they can slug it out with other world wide wrestling talents? .

The board has exclusive Power to sanction any earring wrestler or Association, Power to stop any un approved championship within Nigeria, it is the only body empowered to issue Professional Wrestling and promotional License to wrestlers and promoters respectively and has the power to issue clearance to any foreign wrestler who wishes to take part in any championship in Nigeria.
