THQ gets victory over Jakks Pacific

Chris Kelly sent this in:

WWE video game publisher THQ is claiming victory over partner Jakks Pacific in the latest legal over the licensing rights for World Wrestling Entertainment.

Video game blog Kotaku.com reports that a binding arbitration between the two companies was announced today. An arbitrator ruled that Jakks is only entitled to 6% of sales from THQ WWE games, down from 10% under their previous agreement.

The new, lower rate, is retroactive to July 1, 2006 and runs through the end of this year. As a result, THQ expects to bring in an extra $23 million during the fiscal 2010 quarter ending this September.

Back in June, Jakks notified WWE of their intentions to renew their license to create WWE games. THQ stepped in and said WWE couldn’t make a new agreement with Jakks without talking to them first, which led to today’s development.
