Interview with Hugh Morrus (General Rection) http://GeneralRectionUSA.com
February, 2001
Conducted by: Paul Nemer of Wrestleview.com
Hey everyone, this past month I had the chance and privilege to conduct an interview with Hugh Morrus AKA General Rection. Hugh Morrus talks about his favorite wrestling moment, his gimmicks, the wrestler he would've liked going up against, he also talks about what he prefers being, face or heel. All that and more, so please read on.
Paul Nemer: Since the M*I*A split up, what is next for Hugh Morrus?
Hugh Morrus: While it looks like the Misfits have been taken to the "Old Group stomping grounds" that is not completely true. But, for now, I am very happy with the re-instatement of "The Laughing Man" Hugh Morrus. Unlike my first run, it looks as though I have proved my worth and my desire to be here in WCW. I am looking forward to picking up were General Rection left off. I will be putting my hat in the ring and coming back what The General Rection worked so hard for and that is the U.S. Title!
Paul Nemer: Did you enjoy the General Rection Gimmick?
Hugh Morrus: I can honestly say. Besides the name "Rection" I loved the gimmick and hope to keep it alive. I would like to incorporate it into what I will be doing now. Maybe a split personality thing. After all, The M*I*A is the high lite of my career up till now! And I love those guys and look forward to a Misfit reunion.
Paul Nemer: So far, what has been your favorite moment in wrestling?
Hugh Morrus: By far the night of the Irvine California/Nitro has been my most cherished moment in wrestling. Some of the boys have worked hard their whole career and never received the recognition that I did that night. I'M not sure I deserved it but, man what a great feeling. And to have my family watching at home was a tremendous feeling.
Paul Nemer: What do you prefer being, heel or face and why?
Hugh Morrus: I really don't have a preference as to how I am portrayed. I believe the people are with you or they are not. I think the days of "Godd and Bad" are long gone. I do like the fans seeing me as I am someone who cares about what and how he does his job.
Paul Nemer: Who are the wrestlers that you looked up to growing up as a kid?
Hugh Morrus: I really didn't know too much about wrestling as a kid. Mu knowledge of this sport came when I joined up with Johnny Rodz in Brooklyn. That's when I got my wrestling education.
Paul Nemer: Do you prefer being a part of a stable or on your own?
Hugh Morrus: I have always been a part of some kind of stable (Dungeon of Doom, First Family, and The M*I*A) that's what I know. But I am looking forward to branching out as a singles wrestler. I think it gives me a chance to show another side of Hugh Morrus.
Paul Nemer: If you ran WCW over the last year, what would have you done different and what wouldn't you have changed?
Hugh Morrus: If I was or did run WCW I wouldn't have to answer that question. Because you probably wouldn't want to talk to me. All kidding a side. I would not want the job of the boss. Being part of the company that is hard enough. You really have to give it to the guys behind the scenes. It's not as easy as it looks. I enjoy being me.
Paul Nemer: Would you ever consider going to the WWF?
Hugh Morrus: I have been asked about the WWF Before. Right now I work for WCW. I am putting all my effort here right now. I chose to stay here after my first contract. I believe in being loyal. That doesn't mean I will always be here. But, this is where my focus is.
Paul Nemer: Where do you see yourself in 5 years from now?
Hugh Morrus: Five years from now? I have no clue. I wish I could see into the future and tell you. I would like to still be in the ring. The business has been very good to me and I would like to give something back. Maybe as an agent or help train the up and coming stars. You never know.
Paul Nemer: From the wrestlers that are retired, who would you of wanted to wrestle but didn't get the chance to?
Hugh Morrus: I really don't know who is out there that I would liked to have worked with. I have been in the ring with the best of best. Although I would have enjoyed working with Bret Hart.
Paul Nemer: Finally some name association:
Paul Nemer: Hulk Hogan
Hugh Morrus: Legend, trend setter, tremendous business man.
Paul Nemer: Vince McMahon
Hugh Morrus: Legend maker, always "raising the bar"
Paul Nemer: Vince Russo
Hugh Morrus: Friend, boss, great ideas possibly ahead if his time.
Paul Nemer: Bret Hart
Hugh Morrus: The best there was, true professional.
Paul Nemer: Undertaker
Hugh Morrus: Probably the best big man ever. A survivor.
Paul Nemer: Sting
Hugh Morrus: Gentleman, great role model, and a hell of an athlete. Charisma.
Paul Nemer: and finally Hugh Morrus:
Hugh Morrus: Always gives it all he has, never gives up...leader by example.
Here you have it folks. I thanked him for doing the interview and he thanked me for taking the time to interview him.
