Joe Rogan critical of CM Punk’s MMA aspirations

During a recent edition of the “Joe Rogan Experience” podcast, host Joe Rogan was joined by Robin Black where they discussed former WWE star Phil “CM Punk” Brooks making his return to the UFC in three weeks at UFC 225.

While Black admitted to being critical of Punk’s initial attempt two years ago and now fully supporting his return, Rogan remained critical of the UFC giving Punk such a huge platform to make his MMA debut with little experience.

“He’s now fighting a fighter who’s commensurate in talent and there’s nothing wrong with being a beginner in martial arts, but there’s something wrong with thinking you can be a beginner and fight Mickey Gall. It was a foolish venture. My approach to it was this is going to be a very good lesson for people who are fans of positive thinking and they think that’s enough. That sh*t is not enough.”

Rogan is also not a fan of Punk vs. Jackson opening the PPV card in Chicago:

“(Punk) has very little experience in martial arts and has rudimentary control of his body…that’s what I saw when I saw him training. When I saw him training I thought ‘oh my god this guy’s gonna get killed’. He belongs here (against Mike Jackson). It shouldn’t even be on the Tuesday Night Contender show. It should be in some amateur event somewhere. That’s really what they are. They’re guys learning how to compete. They’re in the first fight on the pay-per-view. That’s fu*king crazy.”

Punk addresses UFC 225 card placement

Just last week, Punk responded to a tweet that featured UFC Hall of Famer Mark Coleman commenting on Punk’s fight against Mike Jackson being placed on the UFC 225 main card.

Punk noted that if it was up to him, he’d be the first fight on the prelims on Fight Pass.
