UFC profiles CM Punk’s return this Saturday

Megan Olivi is featuring an interview with Phil “CM Punk” Brooks to talk about his return to the octagon this Saturday at UFC 225 in Chicago against Mike Jackson.

Punk addresses the distraction of his lawsuit the last few weeks in trying to cut weight and train for the fight. He also discusses making progress in the gym and why an injury prevented him from coming back to fighting for the last two years.

Punk noted that he is feeling nervous about his fight this Saturday and thinks that is a good thing, adding that he didn’t feel very nervous stepping into the cage in his debut back in 2016 and probably didn’t handle the situation very well heading in.

Punk says it is hard to watch pro wrestling

Steven Muehlhausen of Sporting News/Fightful spoke with CM Punk at yesterday’s UFC 225 open workouts in Chicago as Punk addressed the media about his return.

When asked if he gave any advice to Ronda Rousey about her jump to the WWE, Punk noted that he told her to have fun and to try and block out the politics backstage.

Punk also noted that it’s becoming hard for him to watch any kind of pro wrestling, adding that he didn’t actually watch Rousey’s in-ring debut at WrestleMania 34.

“It’s still…when I say it’s hard for me to watch wrestling, it’s not like, uh, anxiety thing. I literally can’t get through eight seconds without being like – okay, I’m bored. I gotta watch something else. It’s like going to a baseball game at Citi Field. I like Wrigley Field. It’s old school. Going to a baseball game at Citi Field is like a guy takes ball four and they throw off fireworks. LED screens on everything. Wrestling now is completely like that. LED screens everywhere. Flashing lights. And I feel like I’m going to have a seizure.”

Punk also said he has no interest in watching any wrestling outside of WWE either.

“Same thing. I don’t know why. Subconsciously there is a disconnect. I see clips of stuff. I know Kenny Omega is the hot guy. He’s probably one of the better guys in the world right now. It’s the same thing. I watch clips of matches. I don’t see myself watching full matches.”
