Hurricane Helms ROH

Ring of Honor has announced on their website that former WCW, WWE and Impact Wrestling Star Gregory Shane Helms will make his debut for the company as “Hurricane” Helms at their upcoming ROH State of the Art event on June 15 in San Antonio, Texas.

The event, which will be held at the Aztec Theatre, will air live on ROH’s Honor Club streaming service.  In addition, “Hurricane” will also appear at Gilley’s in Dallas, Texas on June 16 and at the company’s next international television tapings held in Fairfax, Virginia on June 30 at the EagleBank Arena.

Helms wrestled for WCW from 1999-2001 where he was part of the boy band parody 3 Count and also had a run as both the WCW Cruiserweight and Hardcore Champion.  After WCW was purchased by WWE in March of 2001, Helms debuted on the July 5, 2001 episode of Smackdown and began using the “Hurricane” gimmick in August of that same year.  During his WWE run, he held the Hardcore Championship, Cruiserweight Championship and World Tag Titles with the late Rosey (Matthew Tapunnu’u Anoa) who passed away in April 2017.

Following his release from WWE in February 2010, Helms spent time on the independent scene until 2015 and eventually signed with then TNA, now Impact Wrestling, as an agent with an on screen role as the manager of the Helms Dynasty.  He also made an appearance for TNA Wrestling as “Hurricane” Helms and his old WCW gimmick “Sugar” Shane during the “Total Non-Stop Deletion” episode which aired on December 15, 2016.  On June 19, 2017 Helms was released from Impact Wrestling along with Al Snow and Pat Kenney.

Helms was last seen on TV as “The Hurricane” at this year’s WWE Royal Rumble as surprise entrant 21 only to be eliminated by John Cena.
