IWS Knows Your Enemies
Detailed Preview

After a surprising singles showing against Heavy Maxx Fury, Mike ?Speedball? Bailey is rejoined by his tag team partner Brian ?Cocknocker? Corcoran. The last time the two men tagged in IWS, they scored an impressive and unexpected victory against 2.0. This month, this rookie tag team finds itself pitted against a team making a long-awaited return to the IWS: from Ontario, CheckMate, the team of Lionel Knight and Chris Bishop. Unlike 2.0, Knight and Bishop have never won the IWS tag team titles (Chris Bishop was the first IWS Canadian Champion however.) But CheckMate’s failure to win the tag belts has nothing to do with their talent and everything to do with bad timing and bad luck. In fact, they own a weird piece of IWS history having won a match to be named Number One Contenders to the IWS Tag Team Title, a match that they never had because of Chris Bishop’s car accident.

Also in tag team action, the impromptu tag team of the newly crowned IWS Canadian Champion, Shayne Hawke and the wrestler who is as big in the hearts of the fans, Twiggy who will be facing the former tag team champions, the Super Smash Brothers. The question is can Twiggy’s smarts and Hawke’s passion overcome Player Uno and Stupefied’s long-time partnership?

All four of these teams will be looking to make the case that they deserve to fight for the IWS Tag Team Titles during X. But the tag team that has the inside track on this chance are the former IWS tag team champions, 2.0. After butting heads with Jagged and Shane Matthews in a match that earned Dan Paysan the right to go to Germany to represent the IWS in the wXw 16 carat Gold Tournament, the Untouchables came to IWS President Nic ?One T? Paterson with an offer he couldn?t refuse:

Make 2.0 earn a title shot, by forcing them to beat the Untouchables in singles action. In fact, Dan Paysan and Jimmy Stone are so confident that they can beat 2.0 that all Jagged and Shane Matthews need to do to is win one of the two matches. Shane Matthews draws Dan Paysan in a classic contest of strength vs. speed while Jagged and Jimmy Stone face-off in a showdown of two men known for their technical ability.

The Untouchables seem to be trying for some kind of record of how long they can go without actually defending the IWS Tag Team Titles in Montreal since winning the belts in January. Of course, Dan and Jimmy would argue that they have been touring the province of Quebec with the IWS Tag Team titles defending them.

While the IWS Tag Team division heats up, the IWS Super-Cop, our Hardcore Hero the Green Phantom has a ?Most Wanted? bad guy that he plans to collar and pin. Those who know the IWS history would probably not be terribly surprised to find out that the Green Phantom has never liked Ninjas. What has the big man irked ? make that pissed beyond belief – is that last month, the Evil Ninja skipped a show to join he IWS Champion Beef Wellington in Cuba. Yes, the Green Phantom is upset with Beef Wellington as well, but the IWS Champion is busy, so the Green Phantom has decided to settle for crushing the Evil Ninja like a cockroach. Of course, as IWS history has proved, Ninjas like cockroaches are awfully hard to kill, crush or even beat!

The reason that the Green Phantom can?t get his hands on the IWS Champion is because Beef Wellington has his hands full facing the IWS Number One Contender Franky the Mobster. Beef recently beat Franky the Mobster during Marc Blondin’s T.O.W. show, but that may end up being a pyrrhic victory for Beef. He was a last-minute substitution for Samoa Joe, Franky’s originally scheduled opponent. Mentally, Franky was ready for Samoa Joe not Beef Wellington. After that match, Franky confessed to me (maybe confessed is the wrong word for a thirty minute obscenity laden rant) that he hadn?t properly scouted Beef yet and he underestimated the IWS Champion. That is something that will not happen twice. Beef can boast that he has recently beaten Franky, but he will have to work twice as hard to earn a victory when it really matters and to preserve his gold to walk into the IWS Tenth Anniversary as the IWS Champion.
