Alberto Del Rio reveals when he can wrestle for AAA

During a press conference on Thursday in Mexico City, former WWE star Alberto Rodriguez (Alberto Del Rio) revealed that he will be unable to wrestle for AAA for 90 days due to his non-compete clause with WWE. This means any plans for him to wrestle this Sunday at TripleMania isn’t happening. Rodriguez also revealed that his new ring name will be El Patron, a nickname he was referred to on Spanish language WWE broadcasts that the company didn’t end up trademarking during his run from 2010 to 2014.

He challenged El Texano Jr. for the AAA Mega Heavyweight Championship and is expected to start a program with him shortly. Rodriguez was not able to discuss his release from WWE due to legal reasons, but said he plans to talk more about it in the coming weeks. A reporter asked about Rey Mysterio’s status with WWE and he didn’t know the official situation. AAA President Joaquin Roldan said AAA can’t tamper with Mysterio at the moment, but if his WWE deal expires they would be open to bringing him in to do business together.
