CAN RAVEN RESCUE THE INDIES?

Pro wrestler Raven has long been lauded for being not only a great in-ring talent, but also a great mind for the wrestling business and the colorful characters within. Some of ECW’s more memorable characters and angles were a result of his influence, and now he’s brought that influence to the shoot programming world with the premiere of his new shoot series “Raven’s Restler Rescue.”

The premise of the show, which was released tonight both on DVD and instant video OnDemand at www.KayfabeCommentaries.com, is that each episode, Raven swoops down into the independent wrestling world, plucks up talent, and gives them a career makeover, from the character, to the promo, to the ring work. The subject is ultimately put into the ring in front of a live wrestling audience to gauge the success (or not) of Raven’s makeover. Viewers are taken inside the entire process behind the scenes, and Raven provides valuable guidance through his interview segments, intercut throughout the show.

This new marriage of shoot programming and reality, makeover programming is a move in a challenging, new direction, but a challenge that is welcomed according to producers Kayfabe Commentaries president Sean Oliver.

“This certainly isn’t the first time we’ve chosen to take a path totally uncharted in the shoot programming genre,” Oliver began. “But it’s another example of our seeing infinite possibilities using the characteristics of shoot interview programming as more of a backdrop, for a more traditional programming experience. Any genre is an evolving entity. We just tend to move those changes along for the entire industry with our programming at Kayfabe Commentaries.”

In the premiere episode, Raven takes a floundering tag team called La Cosa Nostra and transforms them (much to their chagrin) into swashbuckling Renaissance men of ambiguous sexual preference. Hey, you want Raven, you got him.

The premiere episode called “Merry Men in Tights” is available now on DVD and instant OnDemand at www.KayfabeCommentaries.com . You can check out a trailer or even a special preview of the first 10 minutes of the series premiere here: http://kayfabecommentaries.com/RA001_TRAILER.html
