Full NWA TNA PPV Results - 10/16/02 Report by: Mike Sempervive of PWTorch.com
Show begins with Mike Tenay & Don West showing clips of the Estrada-Siaki (ooh, new graphics of the matches for tonight, like the WWE does when they go to break. Look good.) from 2 weeks ago, clips of James & Sadler - Jarrett & Bruce situation from last week (no graphic), clips of Ron Harris & Siaki - The Michaels (again, no graphic), then graphic only for A.J. Styles-Syxx.
Backstage Goldy is talking to Jorge Estrada. Goldy asks if there are no more Flying Elvises. Estrada says "Elvis & Priscillia are an item again in the tabloids" and in walks a hot blonde to be at his side. He then says he's holding an open audition for the newest Elvis, who doesn't have to have wrestling talent, just the spirit of Elvis. Syxx is shown coming out of the door behind them. Brian Lawler then walks in and interrupts saying he's looking for April. When Lawler walks out of the shot, April is shown coming out of the same door.
(1) Brian Lawler def. David Young. Lawler is introduced, April runs out slightly behind. Lawler takes the attack early. The announcers draw comparisons to Lawler's situation and Young's with Bobcat. Young then takes advantage knocking Lawler outside of the ring and face down into the crotch of April. Back into the ring, after Young gets an inverted atomic drop, Lawler takes back over as the crowd chants "Jerry's kid". After some stalling by Lawler, Young regains control hitting 3 straight DDT's and gets a 2. Goes for a moonsault after a powerslam but misses. Lawler goes outside grabs his goggles, puts them on and goes for the hip-hop drop and misses. Young begins to climb the ropes but starts looking at April, Lawler then hits a inverted DDT from the ropes for the win. After the match, April gets on her knees in front of Lawler, then he pulls her up the hair and they leave.
As the scroller goes across the screen, Tenay talks about Jerry Lynn being injured which segues into a video package of the Lynn-Siaki feud.
Jerry Lynn hobbles out to do a in-ring promo as the crowd chants "Jerry". Lynn says he owns all the responsibility for injuring his knee last week, but says he holds no responsibility for what he'll do to Siaki next week. Says he's dealt with "punk ass bitches" like him for 14 years. Says he's what's wrong with the business, he wants everything handed to him on a silver platter. He says when he's done Siaki will have a "newfound respect" for him and the business. That brings out Siaki who talks in third person. He says he won't be a mid-carder for 15 years and that "Sonny Siaki is life." Lynn says after "life comes death" which leads to a pull-apart in the ring where every time they are separated, they charge back at each other. Of course, the wild brawl doesn't end until Don Harris comes out.
Footage from earlier today is shown of Mike Tenay having a sit down with Sean Waltman. (not Syxx, this is one of those shoot- styled things) Tenay brings up his matches with Lynn in Global and says he was X division before there was an X division. Tenay goes through some of the stables he's been apart of and asks if he still has a impact in wrestling. Syxx asks if he means a positive or negative impact? Says he's stirred up shit in the locker room, and his reputation is only partially true. Says he's a wrestler, not a sports entertainer and that's why he's in TNA. Says he's not really proud of how he won the X title, he's just an opportunist and he's looking forward to his match tonight with A.J. Styles.
(2) Sonny Siaki def. Jorge Estrada (w/Priscilla). Estrada charged the ring. Exchange of chops, Estrada hits a springboard legdrop for a 2, and then a springboard moonsault for a 2. Siaki then hits a release belly to belly over the top rope throwing Estrada to the floor. Siaki then hits a wicked pump handle overhead throw on Siaki. Back in the ring Siaki misses a "Flipmode" (sommersault legdrop). Estrada regains the upperhand with a leaping tornado DDT. Estrada hits a dropkick and a rana. He then hits a running fireman's carry slam and a asai moonsault for a 2. Siaki catches Estrada coming off the ropes with a lariat for a 2. Estrada hits a modified Rock Bottom for a 2. Siaki rolls out of the ring to take a breather, Estrada tries to dive out on top but misses when Siaki pulls Priscilla into his way and ends up hitting the guard rail. Siaki rolls Estrada back in the ring and hits the "Siakalypse" (Roll of the Dice) for the win.
After the match, Lynn runs down and attacks Siaki on the ramp. They fight into the ring where there is another pull apart brawl.
The scroll rolls at the bottom hyping NWA territory shows as Tenay hypes Lynn-Siaki for next week's show.
(3) Ace Steel (w/Mortimer Plumtree) def. Derek Wylde. Tenay hypes the fact Wylde was trained by Whipper Watson, Jr. & Dory Funk Jr. and that Steel was trained by Harley Race. Good shadow moving and mat wrestling to start. Wylde jumps off the top rope but is caught, driven into the corner, and eats a running dropkick. Steel then superplexes Wylde. Steel then gets 2 double underhook knee shots to Wylde's face. Steel then hits his "Twist of Kane" (Gory Special into a neckbreaker) for the win.
The scroll rolls again and Tenay hypes the 54th Anniversary show in Corpus Christi, TX
(4) B.G. James & Hermie Sadler def. Jeff Jarrett & Bruce when Sadler pins Bruce. James does his pre-match shtick calling the Asylum "The baby boy's playpen." Tells Jarrett he's going to cut through him like a hot knife through butter and that Sadler will "drive right over you, homo" to Bruce. Jarrett says he went to the race in Charlotte over the weekend and that a Hollywood director is going to cast Sadler in the "Last & the Furious". (Have a heart, Jeff he finished 26th, not last) Jarrett & James start it out. Bruce is tagged in, and Sadler begs for the tag. After some stalling, Bruce gets a drop toehold and smacks Sadler on the back of the head. Typical non wrestler vs. wrestler stuff until Sadler tags back out to James. James goes for a pump handle slam but Bruce acts like he enjoys it and he backs off. Bruce then jumps on James after Jarrett hits him when the ref is turned around. Jarrett tags back in and hits a enzuigiri for a 2. Jarrett then chokes James against the ropes, and whips James into the corner hard before tagging Bruce back in who pounds on James. Jarrett tags back in, James hits the crazy legs kneedrop for a 2 but is broken up by Bruce. Sadler runs into the ring and suplexes Bruce. Jarrett & James fight up the rampway. Sadler back drops Bruce for a 2. As Bruce back suplexes Sadler in the ring, Lawler is shown on the ramp attacking James with a trash can. Bruce reverses a back drop into a sunset flip attempt (which is what is was supposed to be all along) and Sadler sits down on him for the pin. After the match, Jarrett walks around the ring upset as Bruce tries to put his tiarra back on. Bruce tries to hug (more like dry hump) Jarrett after the match but Jarrett kicks him low and hits the Stroke.
Tenay hypes the 54th Anniversary show again, as the scroller rolls.
(5) Ron Harris def. Norman Smiley. Not much to say about this match. Both Smiley & Harris looked sloppy, mismatched, and blown up. After the match Harris goes back in to attack Smiley but Smiley does a rather weak Ken Shamrock impression and "snaps" beating down Harris until brother Ron comes out to throw Smiley outside the ring. (Bad, bad match up.)
The scroll rolls again as Tenay hypes NWA Wildside's "Fright Night" tag tourney on Nov. 1 & 2 in Cornelia, GA.
(6) Chris Harris & James Storm def. Chris & Rick Michaels to retain the NWA Tag Team Titles. Harris & Chris start out. Tag is quickly made to Rick who is backdropped outside of the ring onto Chris. Storm is tagged in and planchas onto both men outside, followed by a Harris plancha. Back in the ring, Harris backdrops Chris and tags out. As Storm is whipped off the ropes Rick pulls him outside throws him into the rail and rolls him back in where Chris hits a legdrop for a 2. Chris is tagged in. Storm hits a crossbaody for a 2. Chris quickly gets up and hits a single leg dropkick for a 2. Rick is tagged back in and jumps on Storm who hits a huracanrana. Makes the tag to Harris, Harris tags in and hits a inverted atomic drop and a lariat off the ropes. Chris then tries to attack but also gets hit with a clothesline. Harris gets a crossbody for a 2, but is broken up. Storm hits a inverted tornado DDT but the refs back is turned. Chris hits a top rope legdrop and rolls Rick on top of Storm for a 2. Harris hits a superkick on Rick for a 2. Rick hits a face/neck breaker combo and Chris hits a top rope legdrop for a 2. Harris hits the "Catatonic" on Rick for the win. After the match, the Hot Shots (Chase Stevens & Cassidy O' Reilly) run in and help the non brothers attack Harris & Storm after the match. West puts over the fact that everyone in TNA is getting jealous that no one can beat the champions. All 4 then attack security when they try and break up the assault.
We're scrolling again! Tenay hypes up the X division match between Syxx & Styles.
(7) For the NWA X title, A.J. Styles (w/Mortimer Plumtree) def. Syxx by DQ. Syxx retains the title. Styles comes out with Mortimer Plumtree at his side. Tenay puts over Syxx as a "trendsetter" for his work in Global. The match begins with Styles kicking away Syxx's attempt for a handshake. Very slow start for a X match. Some back and forth exchanges with a cocky Styles usually getting the best of them. Syxx hits some kicks in the corner and then a jumping spin kick. Styles rolls out for a breather. Back in the ring, Syxx takes the advantage and hipdrags Styles to the outside. Back in, Syxx hits slaps & punches in the corner after a reversal by Styles, Syxx backdrops Styles to the ring apron, Styles drops down takes Syxx's feet out from under him and crotches him against the post. Styles gets a 2. Plumtree chokes Syxx against the ropes while the ref's back is turned. Styles goes for the pin and gets a 2. Styles gets a rear chinlock. The two exchange slaps and Styles throws Syxx out of the ring where Plumtree gets some kicks in. Syxx goes around to the other side of the ring where Styles hits a pretty suicide flip over the top rope down on top of Syxx. Back in the ring, Styles gets another rear chinlock and a legdrop to the back of the head. Styles goes for a Spiral Tap on Syxx but misses. Styles misses a punch but Syxx lands a spinning heel kick and 2 spin kicks. Syxx goes up to the top but is met with a dropkick. Styles gets a 2. Styles goes for a bronco buster but is flipped outside. Syxx hits a top rope flip onto Styles on the floor. Back in the ring, Syxx hits a Northern Lights for a 2. Styles goes for a discuss punch but hits the ref. Syxx hits a X-Factor but the ref is down. The ref is back up and Syxx hits a bronco buster in the corner, as the ref tries to pull him off, Syxx hits the referee who DQ's him. Syxx retains the title. (A surprisingly disappointing match that had a lot to do with being unfamiliar with each other's styles.)
The girls dance, and Don West hard sells next week's show. Siaki vs. Lynn, James vs. Lawler, Harris & Storm, Jarrett, Killings, Syxx, Hennig, & Styles are announced.
They show another shoot-style clip from earlier with Tenay and Curt Hennig. Hennig hypes up his career in the AWA. And says he was pleased with the crowd reaction he got last week. He says he's had belts in every other territory, there is no reason he shouldn't win one in TNA.
The tale of the tape is shown. Ron "the Truth" Killings cuts a promo before the match calling out NWA officials for being cowards for not showing their faces. He says the Board of Directors is telling people that he's ducking opponents. He says he ducks no one and that he's not overrated, but all of our momma's are. Hennig then comes out and says he's going to teach Killings some respect.
(8) For the NWA World title, Ron "The Truth" Killings def. Curt Hennig to retain the NWA World Heavyweight Title. After the lock up, Hennig gets a takedown and a front facelock on for the early advantage. Killings reaches the ropes to break the count and is slapped. Killings crawls outside where Hennig hits a chop. Hennig goes after Killings who backdrops him onto the announce table and into Tenay. Killings then clotheslines Hennig over the rail. Hennig then nails Truth with 2 chairshots to the back, and then another chop. Back in the ring, Killings took something out of his pants to blind Hennig and take the advantage. Hits a powerslam. Killings then takes the advantage as Hennig continues to sell his eyes. Plumtree, Styles, Steel, & Ron Harris are shown on the top of the ramp. Killings does his backflip/split out of the corner and hits a side kick. Hennig hits a kneelift to take the advantage. Hennig goes for a scoop slam but as he does Killings legs hits the ref. While Scott Armstrong is down, Mr. Wrestling III runs into the ring and is met by Hennig. He stomps Killings but goes back into fighting Hennig. He retreats when Steel, Styles, Harris and then Syxx and James run into the ring. As the mess is going on in the ring Bill Beherens & Commish Armstrong come into the ring along with security to clear everyone out. When referee Scott Armstrong tries to re-start the match, Killings hits Armstrong, ring announcer JB, and Commissioner Armstrong. West hypes the fact Killings is flipping out because "the politics is taking over." The commish then says Killings can either go back in and re-start the match or get counted out and lose the title. While everybody's attention is outside the ring, Jarrett runs in and low blows Hennig leading to a pin by Killings. After the match Killings cuts a promo with a rap and a request that Nashville kiss his ass to end the rough match and, compared to the last couple of weeks, a pretty rough show.
A promo is shown saying "Evil Returns" on October 30. (Malice?)
