Full NWA TNA PPV Results - 11/20/02

1. E.Z. Money & Sonny Siaki defeated Chris Devine & Quiet Storm (Divine Storm) when Siaki pinned Devine after the Siakalypse (similar to Chris Daniels' last rites). Trinity, the valet for Quiet Storm, at one point did a moonsault off the top rope to the floor, and also did a huracarana off the apron similar to what Lita used to do with Essa Rios. Match was a collection of moves, most of which were impressive, but didn't build to anything.

2. Malice defeated Kory Williams in a quick squash with a choke slam. Malice at one point didn't sell a low blow. The other highlight was just before the finish, and probably what was to be the finish, Malice was on the top rope probably for the Bombs Away kneedrop, and he slipped, and landed on his face. He got right up and hit the choke slam before the crowd could get on him.

3. Ron & Don Harris defeated Jose & Joel Maximo when Ron pinned Jose after the H-bomb. To their credit, the Harris twins sold all of the Maximos flying moves even though the size difference was ridiculous. But it was a style clash (not AJ's finisher) and bad match overall. Don Harris actually did a running dive over the top.

Goldylocks interviewed April. We have a new candidate for worst actress in wrestling. Goldy claimed April was in the shower with Bruce. April denied it saying it was trick photography. Lenny Lane then came out and accused Bruce of being straight and being a fake homo. Actually this was when I knew Russo was back. Lenny attacked Bruce saying he wanted to be Miss TNA because Bruce was a fake. It ended with Brian Lawler beating up on Bruce.

4. B.G. James defeated Lenny Lane in the second straight terrible match. Bruce attacked Lenny right in front of the ref. no DQ was called. Bruce piledrove Lenny. Brian Lawler attacked Bruce again. All this in front of the ref and James simply pinned Lenny. Gets funnier later in the show. As Lawler and Bruce started fighting over April, April walked off holding hands with Goldylocks. To say this went over like a fart in church would be giving it more credit than it deserved. It was like a collective, "this is why we don't watch RAW" reaction and it was never referred to the rest of the night.

5. A.J. Styles defeated Crimson Dragon (Chris Hamrick) and Jorge Estrada to become the #1 contender for the X Division Title. Has anyone in the promotion realized just how bad Estrada and Priscilla are yet? Estrada dragged this match down because he missed nearly every spot, and was in the wrong place constantly. Some good moves as well. Last two minutes kind of saved it, and a cool finisher when Styles blocked a Super Frankensteiner by Dragon and turned it into a Styles clash off the ropes, with both landing on Estrada. Styles pinned both at the same time to win.

6. Slash & Brian Lee defeated Chris Harris & James Storm via DQ to retain the NWA World Tag Team Titles. Not as good as last week, but the first good match of the night. Real bad finish as Storm got the spike from Lee and hit him with it for the DQ. A million guys interfering and no DQ. But the ref seeing the spike is a DQ. Lee juiced. Storm & Harris laid out Lee & Slash as well as security after the match.

7. Jerry Lynn defeated Amazing Red to retain the X Division Title with a cradle piledriver off the middle rope. Crowd was quiet early. Red did a running flip dive and a 619, that he called a 718. Great near falls. Fans were into Lynn a lot. Another very good match, but not as good as Red vs. Styles a few weeks ago. Lynn did a very good interview before the match while Red did an interview before the bout that could be best described as pulling teeth.

8. Jeff Jarrett defeated Ron "The Truth" Killings to win the NWA World Heavyweight Title. Jarrett's interview putting over the history of the NWA title must have worked because the crowd treated this like an old-time NWA title match from the 70s. They had never treated the NWA title like this and Jarrett and the crowd made this a really good match. It was really clear that Killings has the charisma of a high mid-carder, the rap of a main eventer, and the ability of an opening match guy because Jarrett was totally carrying this, and it was Jarrett's best performance by far since his WCW days as he tried to combine working old title match style with some brawling in the crowd. Crowd was totally into Jarrett as the babyface challenging for the title and it was worked that way. Jarrett got two good near falls with a chair shot and the stroke. Jarrett juiced late in the match. Killings came off the balcony and put Jarrett through a table. Match ended with Scott Armstrong taking a bump. Killings and Jarrett collided when Mr. Wrestling III came in and teased hitting both guys with a guitar but hit Killings instead. Jarrett pinned Killings following the guitar shot and Mr. Wrestling III unmasked himself, revealing Vince Russo. Show ended at that point.

MATCHES ANNOUNCED FOR NEXT WEEK SO FAR:

  • Jerry Lynn (c) vs. AJ Styles - X Division Title
  • Slash & Brian Lee (c's) vs. Curt Hennig & Syxx-Pac - NWA Tag Titles
  • Brian Lawler vs. Bruce

  • MISC.
