GEORGIA WRESTLING NEWS, NOTES, AND NOSTALGIA: 05/04/2008
NEWS
The current listing of promoters licensed to operate professional wrestling events as of this writing in Georgia can be found here. It should be noted that not all of the unlicensed promotions are heavily active at this point, and in fact, some may no longer be active at all. However, there are plenty that are running at least monthly, and are running the risk of being shut down simply for not being licensed. Of the larger companies, World Wrestling Entertainment is exempt from licensure at this time. Total Nonstop Action is not exempt, but has no events scheduled in the state as of this writing. PWF results for May 1st and May 2nd, 2008 at the Colonial Heights VFW
May 1st Results
Due to Munkay's absence, Jay Shaft was the ring announcer for the night.
Dark Match: Johnny Knieval d. TN Lightning in a very one sided match.
Dustin Steal d. P.D. Hogg to advance in the Red Carpet Rollout Tournament.
Anthony Arcane d. Chase Owens to advance in the Red Carpet Rollout Tournament. This was a very impressive match, with Dustin Steal playing the crybaby role very well.
Hunter O'Malley d. Travis Dykes to advance in the Red Carpet Rollout Tournament.
MDS, along with the rest of Dillon Enterprises offered an apology to Dangerous Donnie. Only problem was Dangerous refused to shake MDS' hand. Donnie was then met with a fireball to the face. I heard a few handed down stories from unofficial sources that the sight at the hospital was not pretty. Due to the heat of the fireball, Dangerous' mask was partially melted to the flesh of his face.
Daniel Mulligan w/ Fabulous Freddie d. Pain to advance in the Red Carpet Rollout Tournament. Whole lot of ass grabbing going on courtesy of Freddie. Pretty scary stuff.
"The Xcception" Josh Crawford d. Matt Storm to advance in the Red Carpet Rollout Tournament in a great back and forth match. Storm hit a very painful looking Angle Slam from the top at one point.
Brian Michaels d. TX Ranger to advance in the Red Carpet Rollout Tournament.
Due to Mike Blade being unable to attend, Johnny Knieval replaced him in the main event to face Menace in an excellent match that went about twenty five minutes.
Menace d. Johnny Knieval by Count Out in a Title vs. Title Match. Due to the result, neither title changed hands. Menace took the microphone afterward and showed immense respect to JK for his stellar performance that night.
May 2nd Results
Hunter O'Malley d. Brian Michaels and Daniel Mulligan in a Red Carpet Rollout Semi-Finals Match to advance.
Anthony Arcane d. Dustin Steal in a Red Carpet Rollout Semi-Finals Match to advance as well. Unfortunately, Josh Crawford got taken out of the match early on by the Fallen, who surrounded the ring like buzzards sniffing out roadkill. Dillon Enterprises joined in on the attack, and it was announced that if Josh could make it to the ring in his weakened condition later that night, MDS would give him a shot at the PWF World Heavyweight Championship.
Next up was Freddy's Corner with Oleg Romanov, who attempted to explain his actions for costing Mike Blade the title in Rogersville a few shows ago. T.J. Dillon explained for him that he was blackmailing him with a green card that had long eluded the Siberian Superstar. Dillon handed him an envelope for his good work. When Freddie revealed the contents of the envelope, which were nothing more than a short 'Screw you' signed by Dillon, Oleg went ballistic, taking his frustrations out on Head of Security, John, who had to be helped from the ring.
Television Championship: Derek Billings (c) d. TX Ranger to retain his title.
Pain d. Matt Storm by DQ after interference from Hedkase.
Cruiserweight Championship: Johnny Knieval (c) vs. Sarah Lynn went to a No Contest after Sarah Lynn collapsed following a frighteningly loud Enziguiri to the head. The locker room emptied of various referees, officials and even wrestlers (Oleg) as they tried to assist Sarah. JK tried to help, but was scalded several times to get back. Derek Billings, who was revealed to be Sarah Lynn's boyfriend, demanded that JK leave the ring as he scooped up Sarah Lynn and carried her to the back. This was the most troubling moment of the night. Everyone was relieved when the ambulance got there.
Deathriders d. the Ghostriders
PWF World Heavyweight Championship: MDS (c) d. "The Xcception" Josh Crawford to retain the title.
Hunter O'Malley d. Anthony Arcane to win the finals of the Red Carpet Rollout Tournament. This win guarantees Hunter a future shot at the World Heavyweight Championship. I've never seen a local crowd come as alive as they did when Hunter's music sounded and he and his brother embraced in the ring. Judging by the crowd reaction, this was one of the best moments in PWF's short history by far.
Mike Blade defeated Menace in a 30 Minute Iron Man Match, 3-2 falls. Most incredible moment in this match was when Menace threw Blade head first into a vacant chair and Blade and the chair skidded a few feet across the floor. How does one man endure that kind of pain? HOW!?
