WWE results from Santiago, Chile, on July 2: Lance Cade over Paul London; Jim Duggan over Charlie Haas; Cody Rhodes & Ted DiBiase, Jr., over Cryme Tyme; Mickie James over Beth Phoenix; Shawn Michaels over Chris Jericho; CM Punk over Kane; and John Cena over JBL. Marc Anthony was stripped of the NWA Mid-America Heavyweight Title by Mike Porter after a bizarre sequence of events last week. Anthony wrestled Ali Stevens in the feature attraction of NWA Main Event's June 21 Slam Jam show at the Nashville Fairgrounds. In a June 25 post on the Mid-Southern message board, Porter reported that the belt was stolen from Anthony and he, Porter, was offering a $500 reward for its return. Later that day, Porter posted stating the belt had been returned, but it was completely destroyed. On the June 28 Main Event television show, it was announced that Anthony was no longer the champion. Later that evening, an individual doing Anthony's gimmick appeared in a vignette on the rival Showtime All-Star Wrestling television show, although his face was never shown. When reached by phone the next day, Porter confirmed that he had stripped Anthony of the Mid-America title. Porter also stated that Stevens had suffered a dislocated hip as a result of being on the receiving end of dive of an unexpected dive by Anthony. Porter said he was legally bound to say nothing more about Marc Anthony and the circumstances surrounding the theft of the title belt. Sources contacted for this story agreed on the following pieces of the story that Porter was not at liberty to discuss. As reported by Trent Van Drisse on the June 30 edition of Jerkin' the Curtain, Anthony left the Fairgrounds with the belt after the Fan Slam show. It was the first time he had done so, as it is Porter's practice to maintain possession of the company belts. By the next afternoon, Anthony informed Porter that he was no longer in possession of the belt. Porter reported the theft to the Nashville police. The badly damaged belt then showed up in Porter's mailbox. Porter had good reason to believe that Anthony never lost possession of the belt and was the one that destroyed it. At Anthony's suggestion, Porter and Anthony signed a legal agreement stating that neither would publicly discuss the theft of the belt. Anthony reportedly paid Porter $500 on the spot, presumably to replace the damaged belt. Anthony also holds the heavyweight title for the United States Wrestling Organization, another Nashville independent promotion. However, Anthony has not appeared on any of the last three weekly USWO shows. USWO promoter Tony Falk is yet to publicly address the situation regarding his title. (Larry Goodman)
