SOUTHEASTERN WRESTLING NEWS, NOTES, AND NOSTALGIA: 07/28/2008
NEWS
Due to the fact our coverage has expanded beyond the state of Georgia this year, we are making the logical change to the name of our daily report to remind folks that Georgia Wrestling History is no longer just about Georgia, as we continue to try and promote the support of local wrestling throughout the southeastern United States. While GWH is primarily in existence to pay tribute to the past, we also feel it is important to help keep the spirit alive on the local scene as well. Thus, in addition to documenting the past to the best of our abilities, which is a never-ending search for information and accuracy, we also keep up with what is going on around us today. Our coverage not only includes the Georgia scene, but we also hit Alabama, Florida, Tennessee, and the Carolinas, as well as World Wrestling Entertainment, Total Nonstop Action, Ring of Honor, the National Wrestling Alliance, and the American Wrestling Association. Amazing Kong defeats “The Jezebel” Eden Black
Eden Black is at a huge size disadvantage in this match, but she tries to make up for it with determination and ferocity. Kong holds out her hand to Eden for a handshake, but when a suspicious Jezebel finally goes for it, Kong slaps her face instead. Black comes back with a slap of her own, followed by several hard forearms to the face of the giant. Eden runs the ropes and flies over Kong, trying for a sunset flip, but Kong is too big and sits down intending to squash Eden. Luckily for Eden, she gets out of the way, and Kong hits nothing but canvas. Eden delivers a series of kicks to Kong’s back, then runs around and drop kicks her in the chest, finally taking Kong down.
Next Eden goes for an armbar submission, but Kong just gets to her feet with the Jezebel still holding on, then with the one arm slams Black hard to the mat. Kong grabs Black’s hair & pulls her back up, and knocks her into the ropes with one knife edge chop. Then Kong chokes Eden as the ref counts, breaking only when she has to, and delivers another chop to Black’s chest. Then Kong grabs Eden’s hair and biels her to the mat, where she applies a chinlock. Still holding the chinlock, Kong rises to her feet and swings Eden around like a rag doll, then flings her to the mat.
Kong follows by standing on Black’s chest with both feet until the ref’s count makes her break. Kong again grabs Eden by the hair and lifts her, going for some kind of slam, but Eden reverses it into an ankle lock. Kong makes it to the ropes, and Black waits for the ref’s count to force her to break. Next the Jezebel kicks the back of Kong’s thigh and follows with a toe hold, continuing to work on the larger woman’s legs; however, she gets too close to Kong, who sends her reeling with one huge swat to the face.
Kong gets up and pounds Eden in the shoulders with a huge forearm, then drops an elbow on Blacks’ thigh and cinches in a leg hold, even biting Eden’s foot as she does so. Black manages to get her other leg around, however, and reverses it into an armbar. Kong rolls over and turns ito into a pin attempt but gets two. Then Kong chokes Eden and follows with a shot to her chest.
Kong Irish whips Eden into a corner and then hits her with a big splash. Kong pulls her back up by the hair, and Eden kicks Kong trying to escape, but Kong just grabs her leg and flings her to the mat. Kong sets Black on the top turnbuckle and slaps her face, but as Kong goes for her next move, Black grabs Kong’s arm and locks in an armbar while hanging upside down over the ropes. The ref’s count forces a break, but Kong was clearly hurt by the move. Black tries for a rollup, but Kong is too big.
Kong Irish whips Eden into the ropes and slams her with a clothesline. Next she pulls Eden back up and double choke slams her to the mat. Kong puts one foot on Eden’s chest until the ref forces a break. Black fights back with a flurry of hard kicks, chops and forearms, but Kong comes back with a shoulder tackle and sends Eden to the canvas, then hits her with a big splash, but only gets two.
Double underhook face buster by Kong gets another two count, and Kong gives the ref a dirty look. Kong picks Black up for a sit out powerbomb, but Black reverses it into her Garden of Eden arm bar submission. Screaming in pain, Kong manages to get a foot on the ropes to break the hold. Black drags Kong back to the center of the ring and locks in the Garden of Eden once more, but again Kong gets to the ropes.
Eden nails Kong with a series of knees to the forehead, plus some forearms to the face, but when she goes for a spinning haymaker, Kong grabs her fist and holds it. Kong comes back with a spinning haymaker of her own, but only gets two. Kong threatens the ref and hits Eden with a huge sit out powerbomb, but again gets only two. Kong goes to the second turnbuckle and hits Eden with an enormous splash to get the pin and become the ChickFight 9 Champion.
After the match, they show a series of highlights from the match.
Cheerleader Melissa Defeats Sara Del Rey and Allison Danger in a Three Way Dance Elimination Match in which Falls Count Anywhere
This match took place at the APW Garage in Hayward, CA, and was to determine who would go to the UK to compete for the Transatlantic Women’s Championship, which Melissa eventually won. The timing of the match was shortly after ChickFight 7.
Melissa and Del Rey start off with some mat work and quick reversals. After Melissa gets and advantage on Del Rey on the mat, Danger runs in and grabs a headlock on Melissa. Melissa reverses it into a rollup on Danger, but Sara breaks up the pin. Sara goes for an arm bar on Melissa and converts it to a hammerlock. Melissa reverses into an armbar on Del Rey, trips her for a takedown, and then yanks the arm and slams it to the mat.
Danger runs in and grabs an arm bar on Melissa, who goes to the mat and then flips over to reverse it into an arm bar on Danger. She takes Allison down and drops the leg on her shoulder while still holding the armbar, but Sara runs in and grabs a toehold on Melissa at the same time. They all break, and Sara locks in a submission hold on Melissa, but Allison goes for a half Nelson on Sara, forcing her to release Melissa. They continue breaking each others’ holds until Del Rey and Danger double team Melissa with submission holds, but then Sara breaks her hold and goes after Allison instead. The match is entertaining to watch, but I don’t understand the psychology here. Since it’s an elimination match, it would make more sense to try to eliminate one woman as soon as possible.
Del Rey holds onto the headlock on Danger as Melissa gets back up and first slams Danger’s leg and then drops the leg on it. That makes sense until Melissa goes for a chinlock on Del Rey, and Danger grabs a toe hold on Melissa. I don’t know the reason for this strategy, but all three women seem to be employing it. Finally Danger gets knocked out of the match for a while, and Melissa gets a very effective leg scissors on Del Rey until Allison comes back and does a front face lock on Melissa.
Melissa reverses it into a front face lock on Allison until Sara recovers and kicks Melissa in the head. Sara goes after both women at first, then snap mares Melissa and tries a pin but gets two. She yanks Melissa’s arm and drops all her weight on it, but then Allison hits Sara in the back with a double axe handle. She and Melissa double team Del Rey for a little bit, but then it goes back to all three against each other. As the action continues, the pace picks up and becomes rougher as time goes along.
Allison decides to stay on the outside for a while as Sara and Melissa go at each other, but when Melissa is down for a bit, Sara notices and goes out to the floor after Allison, who is acting like she has hurt her leg. Sara picks up Allison, asking if she’s okay, but Melissa charges them and knocks both women onto the floor with a baseball slide. The fans quickly clear the area and Del Rey goes after both other women with fierce chops and kicks. They each grab one of Sara’s wrists and slingshot her through a couple rows of chairs and out of the garage into the rain.
Allison sits on a chair, rubbing her knee, but Melissa kicks the chair over, dumps Danger to the floor, and drags her out into the street, where all three women brawl in the rain. Security forces Allison and Sara back into the ring, where Del Rey works Danger’s knee, then hangs her in the tree of woe. Melissa takes a while to return, but when she does, she brings a chair and whacks Sara across the back with it. Melissa and Sara battle on, with Allison still hung upside down in the corner. Finally Sara sends Melissa to the floor, and Allison gets loose and joins the fray. A Shining Wizard from Danger eliminates Sara Del Rey, so it’s down to Melissa vs. Allison.
Melissa is just getting to her feet on the floor, so Danger joins her and they brawl through the crowd and back out to the street and the rain. Melissa steps on Allison’s face, mashing it into the pavement, before she grabs Allison by the hair and her shorts and hauls her back to the ring. Melissa goes for a nonchalant pin but Danger kicks out.
Melissa tries to set Allison up for a Toyota Driver, but Danger fights back and maneuvers the Cheerleader into a pinning predicament. It gets two. Melissa stomps twice on Allison’s knee, then drags her over and takes turns slamming her legs into the steel ring post, over and over. Next she slams Danger onto the concrete floor, and pulls over a bunch of large boards and ladders propped up against the wall, slamming them onto Danger’s legs. With Allison’s legs trapped under the boards, Melissa stands on them and slams ladder after ladder onto the pile as Allison writhes in pain. Then Melissa jumps up and down on top of everything. Finally she goes to pin Allison, who still gets one shoulder up!
Realizing this isn’t going to get her the pin, Melissa helps the ref pull Allison out from under the pile. Back in the ring, Melissa stomps Allison's knee. then props her leg over the bottom rope and drops all her weight on it. Allison keeps trying to drag herself to the ropes, possibly to try to pull herself to her feet, but Melissa drags her to the center of the ring and tries for a pin, but gets only two. She goes for a suplex, but Danger rolls her up for a small package and gets two.
Melissa stomps on Danger and keeps working that leg. Allison fight back with forearms and manages to get a cravat head vise on Melissa. Melissa forces a rope break, and the women slug it out on their knees, exchanging forearms until Allison falls backwards. Melissa pulls Allison up and tries again for the Toyota Driver, but Danger again fights out, only to drop to the mat, unable to stand. Melissa goes for a pin but gets two. Melissa pulls her back up, but Danger rolls her up for a two count. Melissa goes for the Toyota Driver again, and this time, even though Allison fights against it, Melissa hits it and scores the pinfall for the win.

Alan Haugabook sent this in:
As you all may have noticed, the IWF has been on a summer break so to speak.
What we here (I) in the IWF have decided to do is run from Sept - May every year.
We currently have shows booked every other month starting with "Put Up Or Shut Up" on Sept. 27th at the Elk's Lodge in Dearborn.
Other events might be scheduled in between at other venues, if the conditions are right.
As for now the Elk's lodge will have IWF events from fall to late spring.
June, July and Aug will be taken off to enjoy life, travel and just spend time with family.
Life is short and time spent with loved ones is a fleeting thing that's gone before you know it.
I had a long conversation today with someone very close today. I talked about walking away from the business for good. He said "do You think you can do that and walk away for good?" The answer is no, I can't.
One thing for sure is, things have to change. You can't keep doing things the same way over and over and expect the outcome to be different.
So from this point on, big changes are coming to the IWF. What they are, stay tuned.
The IWF season starts Sept. 27th 2008!!!
