NEWS and NOTES

World Wrestling Entertainment’s SmackDown/ECW crew will be at the Philips Arena in Atlanta, GA, tonight. This will be for the SmackDown/ECW broadcasts this week. Part of the ECW portion of the show is if Tommy Dreamer defeats Armando Estrada, Estrada leaves ECW. NWA Anarchy’s Phil Shatter, Jeremy Vain, Sal Rinauro, and J.T. Talent are booked to be a part of this event.

The SummerSlam PPV will be at the Conseco Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, IN, on August 17. An updated lineup is as follow: Edge versus the Undertaker for Hell in a Cell; Triple H defends the WWE World Heavyweight Title against the Great Khali; CM Punk defends the WWE Heavyweight Title against JBL; Mark Henry defends the ECW Heavyweight Title against Matt Hardy; John Cena versus Batista; a mixed match featuring Kofi Kingston & Mickie James versus Santino Marella & Beth Phoenix; and Shawn Michaels makes an announcement regarding his future.

Amy ‘Lita’ Dumas’ Luchagors are performing tonight at the Starlight Six in Atlanta, GA, in what is billed as their Homecoming. The event begins at 7:30 PM, with a showing of Quentin Tarantino’s “Hell Ride” starting at 9:30, followed by “Hellboy II” and “Wanted”. Also performing live are Thee Crucials. A motorcycle and scooter showcase is also planned.

Ring of Honor has announced the following matches for upcoming events:

On August 15 in Cleveland, OH, Nigel McGuinness defends the ROH World Heavyweight Title against El Generico. Erick Stevens is set to defend the FIP Heavyweight Title against Claudio Castagnoli. Rhett Titus is scheduled to square off with Delirious, and Kevin Steen versus Jigsaw is also on the bill.

Advertised for the August 16 event in Chicago Ridge, IL, is a match featuring Bryan Danielson & Austin Aries versus McGuinness & Castagnoli. Brent Albright is scheduled to defend the NWA World Heavyweight Title against Go Shiozaki.

In Boston, MA, on September 19, Kevin Steen & El Generico will meet the ROH World Tag Team Champions in a title match. Current champions Jimmy Jacobs & Tyler Black are the current champions as of this writing. This event will be taped for a PPV.

The recently posted Mid-Atlantic Championship Wrestling event advertising an appearance by The Midnight Express at South Caldwell High School in Hudson, NC, on August 9 will not include Dennis Condrey, according to the founding Midnight Express member. The doors will open at 7:00 PM, with matches getting underway at 8:00. Tickets are $12 for ringside, general admission $10. Also advertised: Buff Bagwell, Rick Steiner, and The Rock & Roll Express. No word as of this posting if Bobby Eaton or another tag team wrestling under the Midnight Express name is available at this time.

Championship Wrestling Overload will present the “Back 2 School Bash” at the Johnson County Recreation Department 20 in Wrightsville, GA, on August 8. Gates open at 7:30 PM, with matches getting underway at 8:00. Tickets are $6. Children 6-12 are $3. Children 5 and under get in free with paid adult. Advertised: Bobby Joiner defends the National Heavyweight Championship against The Ringlord. Brian Chase & Loco Motive defends their Georgia Tag Team Championships against Tommy Lee & a mystery partner. The Iron Bear defends his Southern States Championship against “The Modern Day Cowboy” Chris Anthony. “The Col.” Ivan Parker takes on Damien. Joey Sixx will face Bob, w/ Bob 2. “Bodyslam Challenge” – T.W. James has issued a $5000 challenge to anyone in Johnson County who can bodyslam the CWO superstar. Due to a family emergency, former NWA Anarchy superstar Jason Blackman will not be able to make his scheduled appearance at the August 8 event. Look for Blackman to make his CWO debut in September.

On August 9, New Heights Wrestling will be in Florala, AL, at the old National Guard Armory. Advertised: For the NHW championship, Mr. Fantasy defends against "Pretty Boy" Donny B. Milo defends the cruiserweight belt against Chief Little Bear. Also advertised: D.J. Pringle, Will Scotty, and Billy Rayz. Tickets are $6 and free for kid 6 & under. Bell time is at 7:30 PM and doors open at 6:30.

On August 12, Full Throttle Wrestling presents a "Back 2 School Special" to take place at the Country Music Barn in Elkmont, AL. Advertised: Orion Bishop defends the FTW heavyweight title against Chrisjen Hayme. In a FTW tag title match, Mr. Blur & the Other Guy defends the belts against INHuman Fly & Joey Lightning. Six Feet Under's Hangmen's Death Match Open Challenge was accepted by Instruments of Destruction. Charlie Swinger vs. Phil Wilson. Shaun Peete vs. Jeff Jameson vs. Josh Hendrix. Corey Shaddix vs. Jeremy Flint. Tickets are $6 for adults and $4 for kids 12 & under. The door opens at 6:30 PM and bell time is 7:30. For more information, call (256) 679-1315.

Southern Classic Wrestling will be at Big Dog Billiards in Sandersville, GA, on August 16. The doors will open at 8:00 PM, with matches getting underway at 8:30. Tickets are $7. Kids 6-12 are $3. Kids 5 and under get in for free. Advertised: SCW Heavyweight Champion Leatherface takes on Jamie Holmes with Ace Heffner, plus the Georgia Heritage Championship Tournament, featuring Black Spyder, Stryknyn, Midnight Rider, and a final qualifying match pitting “Monster” Mark Mayhem against Viktor Rossier.

AUGUST 5, 1966 (FRIDAY) – ATLANTA, GA – ATLANTA MUNICIPAL AUDITORIUM [P] (Paul Jones – Promoter / Georgia Championship Wrestling) > Chief Crazy Horse defeated Kenny Mack > Tito Carreon defeated Evil Eye Valentine > Women’s Match: the Fabulous Moolah defeated Princess Little Cloud > Enrique & Alberto Torres defeated George Harris & the Golden Terror > Sputnik Monroe defeated Butcher Vachon by disqualification > Tornado Tag Team Match (No DQ / No TL): the Infernos defeated Bobby Shane & Mario Galento / Notes: Following the match between Sputnik Monroe and Butcher Vachon, Vachon attacked Monroe. Buddy Fuller and Mario Galento charged the ring and chased away Vachon. After Galento helped Monroe to his feet, he had a long stare down with Fuller, but Monroe convinced the two bitter enemies to shake and make up, which they did. J.C. Dykes managed the Infernos. There were two referees for the match between the Infernos and Bobby Shane & Mario Galento. The program for this card features an advertisement for Mario Galento’s “the Gentle Brute”, his life story. It says the book can be found at the Book Shop (33 Forsyth Street), Atlanta Book Mart (175 Peachtree Street), Dixie Book, Inc., (43 Decatur Street), and three Johnny Reb’s Book and Card Shop locations (30 Marietta Street, 258 Peachtree Street, and 89 Luckie Street).
