Larry Goodman sent these report in:
Airing October 11, 2008 in Nashville on Comcast 74 Taped September 12, 2008 in Millersville, Tn at the SAW Mill
Opening with a brief Raven promo touting his SAW debut in 7 day. He was sitting in the forklift again. Raven said he was coming to hurt people, win titles and bring excitement. He better bring more excitement than these first two promos have.
Michael St. John and Reno Riggins did the stand up for what MSJ described as one of the most anticipated episodes of television in SAW history, Jerry Lynnâs final shot at Kid Kash with the SAW title on the line in a 30 minute Ironman Match. MSJ said we were going to talk to some of the fans and wrestlers about the match.
Cut to Hot Rod Biggs getting predictions from two fans. They both went for Lynn. Christina said Lynn would win because he was pretty. Nothing from the wrestlers.
SAW Summary: MSJ noted their shared past in ECW. He narrated clips from the three previous matches in this series. Their first encounter ended as 15+ minute draw. The second, with a one hour time limit, saw Kash used the banned piledriver for an intentional DQ. That led to a no DQ match in which Kash got counted out.
They put up a tale of the tape graphic during the intros. Kashâs record in SAW was listed as 112-2 while Lynn was 89-3, as if they had been wrestling 7 nights a week.
1 â 30 Minute Ironman Match for the SAW International Championship: Champion KID KASH vs. JERRY LYNN
A bare minimum of action in the opening minutes with Kash employing the tactics heâs used throughout this series â stalling, complaining and most of all, bating the fans. At one point, Kash pushed a fan into the wall as he was attacked from behind by Lynn. Later, he dragged a fan out of his seat and wrestled him to the floor (same guy he tore a shirt off of a couple of months ago). Lynn came out and scuffled with Kash. Kash tried to cut off Lynnâs reentry with an elbow drop, but came up empty. Lynn started working an armbar.
[Commercial break]
Kash stunned Lynn with knees to the gut and reversed into an armbar with a twist. Lynn kicked Kash off. Kash went back into stall mode. Back inside, Kash broke a test of strength with kicks to the gut and gnawed on Lynnâs hand. They traded punishing armbars with Kash using back rakes and more biting to gain the advantage.
[Commercial break]
Lynn locked his hands to block a cross armbreaker attempt by Kash, but came up grabbing his elbow. Lynn used a series of kneedrops to set up a mirror image cross armbreaker with Kash going for the block. Kash bit Lynnâs leg to break the hold. Lynn decked Kash with a forearm shot. Lynn rammed his shoulder into the turnbuckle trying to follow up on an Irish whip. Kash applied a short arm scissors. Lynn maneuvered into a pinning predicament to force Kash to release the hold. Lynn got back on the arm, so Kash went to the ropes. Lynn got two with a small package. With an armbar locked in, Lynn pulled Kash to ring center to prevent another ropes break. Kash reversed into an ankle lock forcing Lynn to the ropes. Riggins brought up Ken Shamrock. Lynn came up limping and immediately took Kash down with an armdrag.
[Commercial break]
Lynn was working a keylock, but Kash resorted to his pet counter move â biting. Lynn retaliated with closed fists. Kash looked spent. He pulled ref Kurt Herron down by his pant leg, and then caught Lynn off guard with a toss through the ropes. Cut to a close up of Lynn on the floor clutching his arm. Krull gave the 15 minutes gone call. Kash did a huge number on Lynnâs elbow here, stomping it on a chair and wrapping it around the ringpost. Back inside the ring, the dissection of Lynnâs arm continued for several minutes, punctuated by a series of leg kicks and a Kash lariat for a near fall. Lynn rolled out to the floor after Kash stomped his groin.
[Commercial break]
Kash rolled Lynn back into the ring and got back on the arm. Lynn fired up. Lynn started firing right hands. Lynn countered a body slam with a reverse DDT. Lynn sunk his teeth into Kashâs hand for some payback. Lynn with a pair of shoulder blocks and a flying lariat. Cover and Kash barely kicked out before the three. Lynn ate a back elbow charging into the corner. Kash climbed the ropes, but Lynn cut him off with a punch in the face. Lynn hit a top rope huracanrana and followed with the TKO for the first pin of the match (and this series) at 22:25. Lynn covered again. Kash kicked out and went to the floor to buy time. Lynn wasnât having it. He nailed Kash with a baseball slide and then a rolling senton off the apron. Riggins said Lynn wanted to pad his lead. Lynn rolled Kash inside the ring. Kash crawled into the far corner, caught Lynn with a boot and pinned him with his feet on the ropes at 23:45. Itâs 1-1.
[Commercial break]
Kash was staggering around at ringside trying to catch his breath. Lynn came out to rake Kashâs back and pound on his head. Back inside, Lynn went for the TKO, but Herron got clipped by Kashâs legs as Lynn went to drop him. Kash delivered a low blow and pinned Lynn at 25:28. Kash immediately pinned Lynn again to go up 3-1. Lynn was still in agony as he rolled out to the floor. Kash was feeling it now. He gave Lynn a beating on the floor. St. John said Lynn needed three pins in less than five minutes to win the title. Lynn reversed Kash sending his head into the post. 2 minutes to go. Lynn rolled Kash back into the ring and climbed to the top. Kash hit the ropes to crotch him. Kash hit a top rope huracanrana and Lynn rolled through for the pin at 28:45. They exchanged headbutts with both men sprawled on the mat. The announcers started talking like Kash had it won. Kash covered for a two count. Lynn kicked out of a sunset flip and folded Kash up but only got a two count. Kash went for another sunset flip, but Lynn sat down on it and hooked his legs to tie the score at 3-3 with 10 seconds remaining. Double knockdown on simultaneous haymakers as the time limit expired. Fans were chanting for five more minutes. Kash crawled over and grabbed the belt from Herron. Junior Official Jesse Fields had a talk with Herron, who took the belt away from Kash. Commissioner Morton had called for a sudden death overtime. Lynn got a pair of near falls before Kash knew what hit him. Kash pinned Lynn with his feet on the ropes, but Fields waved it off. Kash went after Fields and Lynn rolled him up again. Kash got in Herronâs face, and Lynn caught him with a reverse roll up, but Kash rolled through with a handful of tights. Lynn kicked out. Kash hit a german suplex. Lynn lifted his shoulder. Kash did not. Game over.
WINNER: Lynn 4-3 to win the SAW International Championship at 1:15 of Sudden Death overtime.
Riggins called it right away. Kash raised his hand, but Herron gave the belt to Lynn. Kash was furious to where he ended up being dragged away by security. Streamers and confetti dropped from the ceiling. The crowd gave Lynn a sustained standing ovation. Biggs and the babyface wrestlers came into the ring to congratulate Lynn. They replayed all of the falls in the match, then cut back to the ring for closing shots of the wrestlers and fans congratulating Lynn. Closing Thoughts: In a word: disappointing. It wasnât a bad match by any stretch. I was just expecting better. They had done such a beautiful job of setting the stage â three matches with neither man scoring a fall, really strong promos all along the way by both men, a great recap segment before the big finale. Surely, this would be the time when they pulled out all the stops. Instead, we got a match that looked like an extended version heir previous matches. The matwork and submissions were cool. They got the grueling effects of a long match across well, especially Lynnâs awesome job selling the elbow. I loved it that not once did Kash pin Lynn fair and square. But they never kicked it into high gear for more than the occasional short burst. I found myself agreeing with a lot of the points made in [url=http://members3.boardhost.com/Trent36/msg/1223921060.html]TVDâs review[/url]. Bating fans is one thing, but Kash attacking a fan in the middle of a championship match was ridiculous. It makes it tough to suspend disbelief with stuff like that. The layout of the final minutes was flawed. Based on his strategy throughout the series, it was completely illogical for Kash to be aggressively going for pins during the last two minutes. I didnât have a problem with the Commissioner springing the sudden death stip on Kash. Considering that Kash had subverted the intent of every stipulation the promotion had put in place, it was poetic justice. But there had to be a better way to get there. The miracle babyface comeback was too predictable. Perhaps less early stalling and starting the pins before 20 minutes gone, then Lynn dramatically claws his way back to even the match with a few minutes remaining, then Kash shamelessly stalls out the clock thinking heâs put one over on SAW once again, only to find out differently. The second ref reversing the decision on Kash during the overtime was overkill. Besides, Lynn had already been victimized by that move once in the match. I liked Lynn winning by outsmarting Kash, since Kash thinks heâs so crafty. For the sake of making the babyface champion as strong as possible, I would have liked a clean undisputed pin or submission even betterâŠThose preposterous win/loss records were hilarious. Then too, they claim Kash has defended the title all over Europe. I guess that stuff might fly in foreign syndicationâŠThe postmatch celebration with the replays, etc. was well done. They really let the title change sink and made it feel important. Overall, Kash/Lynn was a solid and very interesting program. Given who was involved, it almost had to be. But in the end, it was like several of SAWâs big storylines; the story turned out to be better than the match it was building.

NWA Main Event â ION episode 28 Airing October 11, 2008 in Nashville on ION Taped October 7, 2008 at the Nashville Fairgrounds Sports Arena
Straight to the action with Jason James and Tyler Clemmons on commentary.
1 â SHANK âThe Freakâ BARZINI (with The Solomon King) vs. âMean â MIKE WOODS
News from the Portland show: After taking two piledriver from Chris Cane on TV last week, JP Lightning showed up in Portland to challenge Cane, only to fuck up his neck again and get carried out. Nevertheless, Lightning was in the building challenging Cane to a match.
Call it a credit to him. Call it an indictment of him. Either way, heâs tenacious.
Also in Portland, âPlayboyâ Scott Hayes sustained a serious injury at the hands of Jeff Daniels. A telephone interview with Hayes was coming up.
Meanwhile, Woods got the upper hand, then shifted his attention unwisely to Solomon King, opening it up for Shank to clip his knee. Shank used a spinning toe hold and a single leg crab, during which he chewed on Woodsâ kneepad, prompting James to bring up George âThe Animalâ Steele. No water in the pool for Shankâs moonsault. Woods sold the knee huge. He whipped Shank in but was too hobbled to follow up. James brought up the knee problem. Big lariat by Woods. Uncle Walt up on the apron and brought in the hard way by Woods. Clothesline on Walt. Shank with a briefcase shot to skull for the 1-2-3.
Winner: Barzini in 7:05 of TV time with Solomonâs briefcase. A fine opener. Stelllar work on the knee by Shank, well sold by Woods. The announce team did an outstanding job of getting the new angles across without totally ignoring the match at hand.
Phone interview wit Hayes along with footage from the Portland showing Daniels torturing Hayes with The Dominator while âthat she-devilâ Dominique. Hayes said the diagnosis was a damaged labrum, but he didnât need surgery per the renowned Dr. James Andrews in Birmingham. Hayes said he would be ready for the Fairgrounds show next week.
Promo by Solomon King (selling that aching shoulder) and The Freak. Freak said he was gonna get freaky with Woods next week.
Woods promo â âIâll tell you one thing, King Solomon. Youâre supposed to be wise, and it ainât wise to mess with âMeanâ Mike Woods.â
2 â CHRIS CANE vs. J. P. LIGHTNING
JIP with the opening shot being one of Lightning clubbing Caneâs neck from behind. Cane hooked the ropes to hang Lightning out to dry on a dropkick. It was DĂ©jĂ vu all over again on Lightningâs neck. Lightning got a comeback, but Cane ducked an enzuirgiri and locked in the STF. An unidentified woman came to ringside pleading with JP to give up. She threw her white top into the ring (she had a tank top on underneath) and ref Jamie Ferrrari called for the bell.
Winner: Cane with the STF in 3:13 when Lightningâs girlfriend threw the towel in. Compelling stuff.
Jame said that was Lightningâs girlfriend, Scarlett. Scarlett jumped into the ring and pounded on Caneâs back. Cane grabbed her by the hair and was threatening to punch her face, until Steve-O and Chris Phoenix made the save. Scarlett was sobbing and stroking the hair of her man. She wouldnât let the other wrestlers get near him.
Cane promo. He had no problem getting physical with Scarlett, but that was in the past, because he was going to the top in NWA ME.
3 â SNAKE JONES (with Charming Charles & Little Booger) vs. CHRIS PHOENIX
Early on, Phoenix surprised Jones with a sleeper but wasnât quite able to lock it in. Jones started pounding on Phoenix BEFORE Booger grabbed Phoenix by the leg. Jones employed copious karate thrusts to the throat. Charles amplified the ex-Marineâs troubles by grinding his cane into his trachea. Jones kicked field goals with Phoenixâs ribs. James brought up Al Del Greco. Clemmons said Rob Bironas because Snake didnât miss. Phoenix looked gassed on the comeback ending with a backdrop. Booger got on the apron. Phoenix popped Booger, who took this lame bump onto Charles, while Snake was sitting up. Snake locked in Snake Eyes (cobra clutch). Phoenix kicked off the turnbuckles (sorta) and landed on top of Snake, who didnât release the hold and pinned himself. Charles raised Snakesâ hand, but Ferrari awarded the victory to Phoenix. James said now that Snake had lost a match, Charles might have to get a new monster.
Winner: Phoenix via pinfall at 6:12. Crude match here. The finish was not well executed. Neither was Boogerâs bump. Gotta love Snakeâs 70s style karate thrust though.
Promo segment with Charles, Booger and Snake. Charles was beside himself about the stupid ref and having to deal with a nutcase like Snake, who was bashing himself in the head with a chair. Charles threatened to call Bob Trobich of the NWA. Charles said Phoenix was going down like a titanic next week (to Charlesâ hand picked mystery opponent).
4 â Mid America Television Title Rematch: Champion STEVE-O vs. SHANE SMALLS
It was back and forth chain wrestling with Smalls taking several time outs. O The announce team ripped on Smalls gear (mesh velvet lime green trunks with a twist of sour apple), his looks and his lousy social skills. O used the ropes for a backflip counter on the arm wringer. Smalls poked O in the eyes to gain the advantage. Smalls went to work on Oâs back with high impact offense. He got a zillion near falls. O kicked out a springboard leg drop, so Smalls went back up top and missed with a moonsault. O on the comeback with atomic drops and a lariat for two. Ref Jamie Ferrari got squashed when Smalls pulled him in the way. Dominque ran down and tossed a chain to Smalls. O ducked and superkicked Smalls for a visual fall. Daniels hit the ring, clocked O with the ring bell and put Smalls on top. Dominique revived Jamie. âOnly a motherâs love,â said Clemmons. But O rolled a shoulder just before the three. Smalls hit a somersault spear in one corner, and went for another in the opposite corner. O hopped up on the ropes and got the pin with a sunset flip. James made a big deal out of the mother-son connection between Dominique and Jamie, a topic that carried over to the next match.
Winner: Steve-0 via pinfall at 10:10. Another good match for these two. Quite the triumph for O. Theyâre strapping a rocked to his ass as top babyface.
Steve-O said Small didnât succeed tonight and he and Hayes were coming for revenge on Daniels and his partne, Christopher Starr next week.
Smalls said O was lucky and he was the one with all the skill and talent. Smalls said he would hunt O down to get his title back.
Daniels (with Dominique) promo. Daniels gloated about winning the only title that had eluded him during his career. He questioned the audacity of the Atomic Dogg to ask for a rematch because he would outfight him and out wrestle him. âYou better be careful what you ask for.â
5 â Mid America Heavyweight Title Match: Champion âThe Cripplerâ JEFF DANIELS (with Dominique) vs. ALI STEVENS
JIP. After last time, Stevens wasnât tolerating any of Daniels diversionary tactics. Daniels begged. Stevens punched his head. Daniels was on rubber legs. Stevens sent him down with a head butt. Stevens worked Daniels over for a long time with a body scissors, then switched to a bear hug. Daniels thumbed Dogg in the eye. Daniels mauled him. Dominique choked Stevens with a rope while Daniels distracted son Jamie. Stevens came back firing lefts and rights and put Daniels down with an elbow to the top of the head. Dominique up on the apron, so Daniels could grab the title belt. Stevens ducked the belt shot. Daniels tossed the belt to Stevens and went down like he was shot. Jamie saw Stevens with the belt for the DQ.
Winner: Daniels via DQ in 7 minutes of TV time. Nothing special for the wrestling but I like the story - Stevens wasnât falling for any of Daniels tricks but still got tricked in the end. Again, they worked the match to play to Stevensâ strengths and away from his weakness.
Closing Thoughts: It was rematch week â four of âem. To booker Jeff Danielâs credit, heâs developing storylines up and down the card. While the July/August run was fun, there was too much hotshotting going on. The current booking direction isnât as wacky, but it feels a hell of a lot more sustainable. âŠThey have something in the Cane/Lightning feud. Surely, Cane isnât really moving on from it yet. Scarlett was remarkable. Nothing like spontaneous, instinctual emotion to get an angle across. Now if she could just get her pants to stay upâŠPhoenix is being over pushed at Snakeâs expense. Itâs difficult to find guys with the size Phoenix has, but heâs way green to be beating Snake, whoâs coming of a program for the heavyweight title. Unique monster types have a special appeal to wrestling fans, and theyâre killing Snakeâs specialnessâŠThe phone interview with house show footage was a really nice touch. Itâs too bad the crowd at TV doesnât come across like thatâŠThey had the houselights back up, so the TV look better, not good mind you, but better. The crowd looked sad on TV, 50 at best. Theyâre not yet making optimal use of the second camera (manned by Mike Porter)âŠThe announcing was very strong again this week. Having intelligent people that speak well and are students of pro wrestling is pretty unbeatable combination. They can almost get away without an opening recap segment if the announcers keep doing such a good job of hammering home the angles during the body of the showâŠI liked this episode a lot. It got me curious to see what happens next.
