They only met a handful of times in the ring, and now they meet as the elder statesmen of the sport. Harley Race and Bruno Sammartino were the iconic champions of the respective federations for an entire generation of wrestling fans. So it is only fitting that they be chosen to debate the issues of the business in which they propsered. And now it's our turn to vote, and not for the two guys in Washington.
Debate? Vote? That's right. Kayfabe Commentaries releases "The Great Debate '08" on DVD today, featuring Bruno and Harley in an exchange of ideas, in a Presidential-style debate setting. The issues debated range from Heels, to Babyfaces, to St Louis, to New York, to McMahon, to Muchnick, to Flair and much, much more.
Kayfabe Commentaries co-owner Sean Oliver says there are no better choices for this mock election. "For a generation Bruno WAS the WWWF and for many years Harley was the benchmark for the NWA," Oliver said. "Their legacies hung over their respective federations whether they held the heavyweight titles at the time or not. So when we conceived this idea, their credentials were firmly in place."
An added element to the release features the viewer being able to vote for the man they feel best embodies the qualities and viewpoints to represent the business.
"As wrestling fans, we are just as passionate about the sport as political junkies are about their elections," Oliver continued. So this is a fun marriage of the two, and historic in nature as I believe nothing has ever been done like this before. Watch the two biggest names in the history of the sport present their ideals, and then we can vote. It's fun"
