TNA Impact: Christmas ‘08
Orlando, Florida (iMPACT! Zone @ Universal Studios)
December 25, 2008
Commentators: Mike Tenay & Don West
Report by: Josh Boutwell of WrestleView.com

Hey guys, I’m with my family tonight for Christmas like I’m sure a lot of people are, but I have locked myself in a room with TNA, and I want to say Merry Christmas to all our readers!

The show starts off with a video package highlighting the Main Event Mafia.

“Bang, Bang” hits and Mick Foley is on his way to the ring to kick the show off. A big “Foley” chant starts as Foley gets in the ring. Mick wishes everyone a Merry Christmas and says that last week the Main Event Mafia promised him there would be nomore “gang-style” beat downs, but just a few hours ago Samoa Joe was released from the hospital due to the beating they put on him last week. Mick says that Kurt Angle always talks about a “code” between the boys in the back, but what good is that code when your word no longer means anything or when you throw away your dignity. He says that all that stuff is a “crock of Angle” and then says that the next time there is one of those Main Event Mafia “hits” he will personally get involved. He says the bloodshed stops tonight but then the MEM’s music hits and outcome TNA’s resident Mafioso. Kurt says that all this is just one big misunderstood and that last week they weren’t the aggressor, but they were the victim. He asks Mick if he thought Kevin or Sting wanted to be in a cage match. He says they were forced into that cage like a couple of animals. He calls Kevin a “wrestling purist” and says when you put them in cages sh*t will happen. Kurt asks Mick what he expected MEM to do inside that cage and it wasn’t their fault that AJ Styles left Joe in the cage. He says that the Mafia is a family and Mick should be a part of it. Mick says that he needs MEM on the Genesis card and that Kurt and Sting are already involved in a match, but he can’t put the rest in a match yet because of fear of them trying to beatdown their opponents in the back. Mick says, however, he can book a double main event for tonight so Booker T. and Scott Steiner will once again team up this week and they will face AJ Styles & Brother Devon of Team 3D! Booker is mad because he wasn’t supposed to be wrestling tonight, but then Mick says that Kurt will face Rhino as well in a Final Resolution rematch. Mick again says that if things get out of hand tonight he will get personally involved. He also says that he will have Jeff Jarrett at ringside during the Main Event to make sure that everybody stays out of it.

--------------------COMMERCIAL BREAK--------------------

In the back Jeramy Borash is with Rhino. Rhino says that the came to TNA for the rush of the chase that ends in a kill, and tonight that chase starts tonight against Kurt. Rhino says that Kurt claims to not feel anything, but tonight he guarantees that Kurt feels pain. He says that tonight it’s not about the 1-2-3 but it’s about getting revenge for Petey, Brother Ray, & Joe. He says that MEM is always talking about why this war started while they should’ve been thinking about how to finish it.

Kurt Angle all of a sudden walks up to the announce table and asks Mike what he thought about what Jeff had to say and if he felt sorry for him, but Kurt cut him off before he could answer either question. He then asks Don West the same thing and elbows Don upside the head before he can answer. Kurt tells them both to shut their mouths and he says that he has no sympathy for Jeff or his kids, but he is right about one thing: it will be a bloody fight. He says that when Jeff Jarrett comes down to the ring tonight he will hurt him and Jeff probably won’t make it to Genesis. Kurt says that he’s bringing Sting to the ring with him tonight!

Final Thoughts

Well tonight was just not very good. There was one match in the first hour of the show, one match. In that whole hour there was one damn match and about 20 damn segments and promos. I thought with there only being one X-Division Tournament match on the show that it would get some decent time, but it only got a little over 5 minutes. The matches that were on the show were pretty damn good but come on man there was just too much backstage stuff. I know they are trying to get us to buy a PPV but give us some longer matchers at least.

The opening promo from Foley was just there. Not special at all.

Kiyoshi vs. Sabin was very solid for a short match. To me it seems like there is noway they can go anywhere other than Sabin vs. Shelley at Genesis with the way they are building this. I liked the interaction between Shelley and Young setting up the Semi Finals next week, but they could’ve kept it to the locker room instead doing the whole thing in the ring too.

Again, the Sarah Palin stuff is horrible and uncalled for. Stop it!

The sitdown interview with Jeff was okay but he didn’t really say anything that we haven’t heard over and over and over.

The tag match was going pretty good until the No Contest. They really put AJ over good fighting off all the MEM members until they all stormed him at the same time. Mick Foley getting back in to the ring at Genesis is very interesting but I think none of the fans will be satisfied until he nearly kills himself once again in a Street Fight type of match.

I loved the Knockouts Street Fight. Great in ring-action from all the girls with Taylor stealing the show. I don’t like Lumberjack Matches but I’m very interested to see the Kong/Christy rematch.

The Main Event was a good match until the end, but Jeff and Angle had a nice fight. They honestly look like they want to kill each other everytime they have interaction between one another.

More wrestling, less talking that’s all I ask for.
