- The live crowd in East Rutherford popped big for Ric Flair when he was shown in videos. Any display of John Cena was booed loudly. The crowd also cheered video of Barack Obama, but booed video of George W. Bush.

- R-Truth defeated Ryan Braddock.
WWE Friday Night Smackdown Tapings for January 2:
- Vickie Guerrero came out to start the show to wish everyone a Happy New Year. She announced Jeff Hardy vs. Edge for the WWE Championship at the Royal Rumble. Vickie also said all the wrestlers in the Royal Rumble would be announced. Triple H came out and asked if he would be in the Rumble. She said he was in. Triple H then began harassing her displaying, of all things, her action figure and taking the shirt off. He said the figure was slim and found nude photos of her online. Was described as an interesting segment.
- Another Umaga return promo aired.
- The Great Khali & Finlay defeated Curt Hawkins & Zack Ryder. Hornswoggle danced around with Khali after the match.
- Backstage, Eve interfered Michelle McCool. McCool said Maria got exactly what she deserved.
- Backstage, Edge was upset about Chavo bidding on the nude photos of Vickie on eBay. Big Show walks in saying he saw them already. Edge told Show to knock out Jeff Hardy.
- The Brian Kendrick & Ezekiel Jackson defeated Jesse & Festus.
- Vladimir Kozlov defeated Hurricane Helms.
- Smackdown Royal Rumble particpants are: Triple H, Big Show, Vladimir Kozlov, WWE U.S. Champion Shelton Benjamin and The Undertaker. Benjamin walked out and hyped himself up. The Undertaker came out and chokeslammed Benjamin.
- Michelle McCool issued an in-ring apology to Maria and then called out Eve. McCool apologized to her and then beat her up.
- Vickie Guerrero demands an apology from Triple H. She announces he will be competing three times next week in a Tables match, Handicap match and Last Man Standing match in what is being called Triple Jeopardy.
- Kizarny defeated MVP. Kizarny was booed in his debut. After the match, Mr. Kennedy walked out and plugged his DVD again.
- Edge came out and cut a promo about Jeff Hardy being a screwup.
- The Hardys defeated Edge & Big Show. Big Show walked out on Edge.
