TNA Wrestling Impact Tapings for February 4th and February 11th airings.
While waiting with the VIP/Street Team people I saw former WWE star Monty Sopp AKA Billy Gunn walking around backstage apparently signing a one year contract. According to what Dusty Rhodes said on the last taping, Trinity and Tracy Brooks are supposed to bring teams to TNA that have never competed in the promotion. I am sure there will be more matches announced for “Against All Odds.” Sign of the show: “It Takes a Real Man to Wear Pink and Chase Stevens Looks Hot in It.”
Matches taped during hour one to air Friday afternoon/night:
The pre-show video featured a recap of the Jeff Hardy/Abyss incidents that will lead to a TLC match at Against All Odds.
(1) Team Canada’s Petey Williams (w/Scott D’amore) defeated Shark Boy.
“Fallen Angel” Christopher Daniels joined Mike Tenay and Don West for commentary.
This was Shark Boy’s first appearance in TNA in what seems like ages and the fans welcomed him back. Williams went to nut shot Shark in the tree of woe but Shark took a bit out of Williams’ behind. Shark got on the offense but D’amore’s interference stopped that quickly. Williams went for a top rope Canadian Destroyer but Shark countered into a huricurana. Shark hit a missile dropkick but got two. Williams’ second Canadian Destroyer attempt got countered into a Rude Awakening and a two count. Williams got his wits back and hit the Canadian Destroyer to win.
Backstage Cassidy Reilly spoke with Dustin Rhodes about his injured hand when Raven interrupted them.
(2) NWA World X Division champion AJ Styles defeated Buck Quartermain.
Daniels remained at the broadcasting table for this match. Styles had control of the match until he turned his attention to Daniels. Quartermain took full advantage of the situation and jumped Styles. Back in the ring Quartermain took it to the champion but couldn’t get the pin. After Quartermain missed a second rope legdrop it was all over as Styles hit the Styles Clash facing Daniels. After the match Styles demanded the house mic. Styles didn’t appreciate Daniels scouting him and challenged Daniels to get in the ring now. Daniels called Styles a spoiled brat, told him he was tired of Styles ducking him and he would have to wait until the PPV. Styles fired back that he hasn’t ducked anyone in his career and come Against All Odds he would shut Daniels’ mouth once and for all.
A Titus promo played. After the commercial Tracy Brooks and Trinity showed Dusty Rhodes their talent on a mini-DVD player. Both teams will be in action on the pre-show to Against All Odds.
(3) Jeff Hardy defeated David Young.
The Hardy Haters got behind the former NWA Wildside star. Young got in some good offensive moves on the “charismatic enigma” before Hardy made a comeback after Young missed a top rope moonsault. Hardy went to the floor for a chair and hit a springboard leg lariat as Young stood in the corner. Hardy followed it with an STO followed by a Swanton bomb to win. That brought his PPV opponent Abyss to the ring and Hardy went over the top rope to meet Abyss. The twosome fought their way around the audience as the show went to commercial.
Out of commercial David Young spoke to Frankie Kazarian and Michael Shane as they dissed NASCAR and TNA Wrestling analyst Jeff Hammond. They were interrupted by 3 Live Kru who called them out to fight them at the PPV.
(4) Abyss defeated Lex Lovett.
Lovett jumped Abyss at the bell but it him no good as he got hit with the Torture Rack Drop and the Black Hole Slam to end the match. Abyss went under the ring for a folding table to toss Lovett through but Jeff Hardy ran out to stop that and the fight was on again. Abyss had Hardy over his head in a gorilla press but Hardy countered into a Tornado DDT bringing them down into the table. Hardy left Abyss lying in the twisted mess of the table as the fans cheered Hardy on.
Out of commercial Tenay and West spoke but as usual we heard nothing of the conversation. They threw it to Shane Douglas who was with Kevin Nash as Nash got a back massage. NWA World Heavyweight champion Jeff Jarrett came in the room and went to hit Nash with a guitar but Nash saw him in a mirror and avoided the shot. Off to another commercial where Jeremy Borash announced Jeff Jarrett and Monty Brown will be on the Best Damn Sports Show Period in the coming days.
(5) Diamond Dallas Page and Monty Brown defeated former NWA World Tag Team champions The Naturals (Andy Douglas and Chase Stevens)
The Naturals jumped DDP and Brown at the bell and it backfired on them as they were sent to the floor to regroup. The show went to commercial as DDP dragged Douglas into the ring where he and Brown took turns on the offense but the Naturals headed to the floor to stall. Brown grabbed Stevens and dragged in him into the ring for a beating but after a tag DDP got lowblowed by Stevens. This allowed The Naturals to use their double teaming skills on the former WCW World champion for several minutes. DDP got close to his partner as Stevens wore him down with a front facelock but Stevens moved him back to the Naturals part of the six sided ring. DDP fought back and made the tag to Brown who was well rested. Brown hit Stevens with the POUNCE and DDP hit Douglas with the Diamond Cutter to earn the victory.
Backstage Kevin Nash walked to the door to Jeff Jarrett’s locker room but the video feed was cut off in the soundstage. Between shows Jeremy Borash brought a kid into the ring to hold one of the NWA World Tag Team titles.
Matches taped during hour two to air February 11th:
Tenay and West spoke to open the show possibly teasing the event. Dusty Rhodes came on to say if Jeff Jarrett uses the guitar in his match against Kevin Nash at Against All Odds, he will lose the title via disqualification.
(1) Team Canada’s “Hotshot” Johnny Devine (w/“Showtime” Eric Young and Scott D’amore) defeated Sonny Siaki.
Devine attempted to jump Siaki but it backfired on him. Siaki kept on the offense until D’amore distracted Mike Posey so Young could sucker punch Siaki. The trio kept attacking Siaki but couldn’t pin him. Devine attempted a second rope moonsault but met Siaki’s knees. Siaki got a second wind even as D’amore and Young tried to save Devine from defeat. Siaki went for a suplex but D’amore distracted Posey again so Young could trip up Siaki. This allowed Devine to float over and pin Siaki with extra help from Young.
Shane Douglas interviewed Monty Brown about a match he will be having with DDP as his partner at Against All Odds taking on Scott Hall and Team Canada’s Bobby Roode. Brown spoke about the match and his desire to wrestle Jeff Jarrett one more time for the NWA World Heavyweight title.
(2) Diamond Dallas Page defeated Chris Candido.
DDP went for the Diamond Cutter early but the veteran Candido saw it coming and slid away from the move. DDP went for a backslide but Candido blocked it and kicked DDP in the crotch followed by a DDT. Candido followed it with a standing suplex and went to the top rope but DDP got to his feet and dropped Candido on the turnbuckle and hit a Super Diamond Cutter to win the match. Bobby Roode and Scott D’amore interrupted the post match celebration to call out DDP before the PPV. DDP got the house mic and said bring it on but the rest of Team Canada made their way down the ramp as Monty Brown came out to aid DDP.
The Titus promo played again.
(3) Jeff Hammond (w/3 Live Kru) defeated David Young (w/Frankie Kazarian and Michael Shane)
You are reading that right. Hammond came to the ring wearing jeans and a TNA t-shirt. Hammond took the house mic to insult Shane and Kazarian using NASCAR references. This could have been worse. Anytime Hammond got in some offense Shane and Kazarian interfered. Young had Hammond pinned but 3LK distracted the referee and set up Hammond for the victory.
Tracy and Trinity met once again with Dusty Rhodes but I am not sure what the heck they were talking about. During the break AJ Styles joined Tenay and West for commentary. Shane Douglas tossed some t-shirts to get the crowd pumped for the next match. Back from commercial West and Tenay spoke with Styles. As Styles spoke on camera Christopher Daniels came out to confront Styles. Daniels got in Styles face and bitch slapped him causing Styles to jump over the broadcast table to attack Daniels. TNA security and agents needed to break the brawl up so the next match could begin.
(4) In an X Division shoot out, “Primetime” Elix Skipper defeated “the Future” Chris Sabin and Shark Boy.
Watch this on TV as this was a good three way match that saw all the men get their shots in on the other competitors. Sabin went to the top but Skipper cut him off and did his tight rope walk huricurana and dumped Shark Boy to the floor so he could pin Sabin to win the bout.
(5) Dustin Rhodes and America’s Most Wanted (Tennessee Cowboy” James Storm and “Wildcat” Chris Harris) defeated Kid Kash, Lance Hoyt and Raven.
Good way to set up two PPV matches. The match went to commercial in the opening moments as Storm and Rhodes worked on Kash’s left arm. Kash tagged out to Raven who slid to the floor and Hoyt took his place. Rhodes tagged in Harris who got into a fist fight but before Harris could get momentum, Kash and Hoyt hit Harris with a double team shoulder block. The trio worked over Harris as the show came back from commercial. Kash blocked a Harris superplex but missed his top rope splash. Kash tagged out to Raven as Harris tagged in Rhodes who with help from storm cleared the ring. Storm hit Hoyt wit ha superkick and followed him to the floor. Raven went for the Raven Effect but Rhodes countered into a bulldog headlock to win the match. After the taping ended AMW fought with Hoyt and Kash around the ringside area.
