Breaking News: Brock Lesnar files lawsuit against WWE -- details inside
On Monday, February 7, 2005 at 8:38 PM EST - Former WWE Champion Brock Lesnar filed a lawsuit against World Wrestling Entertainment earlier today after claiming the company is preventing him from earning a living after he signed a no compete clause shortly after WrestleMania XX last year. Lesnar agreed to that deal after deciding he disliked the travel aspect of WWE and wanted to pursue a career in the NFL.
Although Lesnar did make the Minnesota Vikings preseason squad, he was cut before the season started (a move many NFL analysts were expecting). There were rumors that Lesnar would get picked up for a spot on the practice squad, but that didn't end up happening and the Vikings have yet to show interest in Lesnar since then.
As noted before, the overall reason for Lesnar's lawsuit concerns his no compete clause preventing him from working for any competitor that includes other pro wrestling or pro fighting promotions worldwide for the duration of the WWE contract he signed a year ago. The expiration date on that contract is June 30, 2010. It is no secret that Lesnar has attempted to contact WWE officials about a possible return. However, reports have indicated his demands to be quote "ridiculous" thus far.
It should be noted that the only reason WWE allowed to let Lesnar out of his contract in the first place was if he was willing to sign the no compete clause that would prevent him for taking his star power elsewhere. Since Lesnar signed it, it stopped him from taking advantage of the character WWE built by giving him valuable TV time and wins over established names that he no doubt could benefit from and would no doubt make use of if he was to go elsewhere. We hope to have more on this story as it develops.
