Rockin' In The Ring (#29) - Thoughts on Brock Lesnar, RAW and more

So Brock's been gone for what, a year? He wants back in and asks for a ridiculous amount of money, doesn't get it, then decides to sue the company because they added a clause in his contract that wouldn't let him compete in any other organization when they let him out of his contract early.

What a dumbass. Seriously. He quits the business because it's too tough, sure he can make it in football. Big risk to take, but I applaud him for his guts.

Dude, if you're gonna walk away from a company that invested tons of time and money into you, grooming you into a superstar, you think they're not going to protect their investment? Think they're going to let you just walk away and not think you might go looking for work elsewhere?

I think the WWE is taking things a bit far, not letting Lesnar compete anywhere else until 2010, when he'll surely be rusty as hell and likely have next to no chance of ever creating the same impact again. Six years is a bit much, especially where most guys get 90 days. But, that being said, he knew what he was getting into. It's not like he was let out of his contract and didn't know he couldn't compete again until 2010. You signed the deal, you dumb jock, deal with it. They're not keeping you from making a living, their keeping you from helping another company hurt them. I'm sure TNA would love to sign that guy. They'd have wrestling media AND regular sports media all over them, giving them much needed spotlight. He wants a job? Become a mechanic! Go teach gym class at a university. Get into carpentry. Become a doctor! Er. forget that last one. But there are tons of jobs out there. Sure, you'll get some strange looks for a while, "Hey, isn't that that big stupid guy who threw millions of dollars down the sh!tter?" but you signed the deal my man. Be a man and live with it. Or, suck it up, admit you screwed up, take a cut in pay and earn the respect of your fans and peers over again. You still have a chance to have a helluva career. Everyone makes mistakes, I'm sure you can be forgiven over time.

So... RAW was a tad predictable this week, but it was a enjoyable show nonetheless. The fans in Japan sure loved it, especially the obligatory 'give the hometown boy a trophy' title match. Is this for real? A made-up tag team defeating the tag champs who have no real competition to begin with? Like I've said before, keep your limited supply of tag teams on one brand. Smackdown! has the cruiserweight division, RAW has the women's division. Both have heavyweight, mid-card and tag divisions. We've got enough guys for heavyweight and mid-card divisions for both shows. But we don't have enough tag teams. Smackdown! needs more of a push than RAW does, and either brand losing the tag division isn't exactly going to kill either one because the WWE haven't had a decent tag division in years. So let Smackdown! have the teams.

I was sooo excited to see Batista finally tell Triple H tell him what he thinks of him last week, so it was no shocker to see that NOT happen. You ever notice we're rarely put on the edge of our seats anymore? Think we've become jaded?

Anyway, I like what they're doing, having 'mysterious' Smackdown! interviews air on RAW. When it's finally revealed that Triple H was behind it all, it should make for one helluva moment on TV. They're letting this one brew slowly. I think they've been a little sloppy with it from time to time, but I don't think we can be too critical of it just yet. I mean, at least they're giving us a slow-brewing feud, right?

Random Thoughts:

-- The fashion show this week was stupid. Shocker.

-- When will Simon Dean quit getting his ass kicked every week? Don't these new guys normally get a push? And who else wanted to see that sumo wrestler fellow actually come in and kick his ass?

-- Randy Orton should be pulled from TV for a while. Which is what I think they did with this 'concussion' angle. He needs to be out to regain steam. Have a nice break Mr. Orton, I think you deserve it.

-- I missed Shelton Benjamin this week.

-- Ric Flair matches suck.
