Badseed’s Bottomline
Little Observations

Hey yo!!! I watched wrestling this week and I am really not at all impressed with what is going on as of late, but I did make a few observations I must discuss.

First off, I got to see No Way Out and I must say that the PPV was not really all that bad. With the exception of Booker T vs. Heidenreich, No Way Out was a pretty good pay per view for Smackdown. It made me realize several things. First, Smackdown has the best tag-team division of the two brands. The Basham Brothers have really come along as of late. They have improved so much since their S&M days. The Dudley Boys will be back soon and when they do, they will be fresh and ready for action again. The Shane Twins are coming back. Nunzio and Vito could be a team in the future if the WWE decided to sign Big Vito. Haas and Holly are coming into their own. Dupree and Suzuki are back together after taking a semi-break as a team. Even the mongrel teams are great. Eddie Guerrero and Rey Mysterio; Booker T and Eddie Guerrero and Rey Mysterio and RVD have all excited the crowds and made tag-team wrestling fun again. You cannot really say that about RAW at all.

Second, Smackdown is a better show than RAW. I know, the writing sucks, but in terms of potential, Smackdown is actually better. I mean, if they just pushed the cruiserweight wrestlers more, Smackdown would be the show to watch every week. Paul London is really coming into his own, as of late. I cannot say that I like his new look, but his wrestling is top notch. Chavo Guerrero is a great champion and his rivalry with London will heat up the division. Even Shannon Moore is kind of fun to watch in the ring. Akio is an awesome cruiserweight (have you ever seen a wrestler get counted out in a match if another wrestler gets up before the 10 count, as happened to Akio vs. Paul London at the PPV?) Akio vs. Paul London would be the hottest match on Smackdown if they let the two tear it up like they did on Velocity. Kidman has disappeared for now, but he is always an exciting edition. Spike Dudley was a great addition to the division until they forgot about him. If Ultimo Dragon comes back without the mask, he will fare better than he did his last time. You can throw Rey Mysterio in there anytime and Kazarian can really wrestle. Now is the time for the WWE to start going after the X-Division. Spotlight the cruiserweights more. Give them feuds. Let them talk. Let them go all out. For once, try to be different and benefit from the results.

Third, I am just saying this off the top of my head, but didn’t Eddie Guerrero win the World title at No Way Out Last year and didn’t Chavo win the cruiserweight title last year as well, during the same PPV. And isn’t it funny that both Guerrero family members win titles once more during No Way Out?

Fourth, if the cage had barbed wire on top to keep the wrestlers inside and the door was locked, then the rule of winning the match by leaving the ring should have also been eliminated. So, while the ending was cool, it should not have happened.

Now, I have some ideas. After watching Guerrero talk to Cena at the PPV, I thought that maybe he should turn heel. It would be a great way for Guerrero to get into the World title picture once more. Guerrero could claim that Cena treated his #1 contenders match like a joke and his Wrestlemania main event like just another day when Guerrero has fought a hard battle to get to where he is. Cena and Guerrero have had great battles before and they could tear up the main event scene for the Smackdown brand for at least a couple of months. Plus, Guerrero vs. Mysterio would be an awesome feud. And, I think they should allow the two to become enemies while holding on to the tag-team titles. Long could force them to team until all hell breaks loose and RVD returns, leading to a feud between RVD and Mysterio vs. Los Guerreros for the titles. Talk about bringing the tag-team division back to the forefront.

Now, if you don’t turn Eddie Guerrero bad, you could turn RVD bad, which I discussed last week. RVD should come back with Bill Alfonso and attack Mysterio for picking a new tag-team partner. He could complain his lack of a push in the WWE and how they have been holding him back. Then, he could state that Alfonso signed him a new contract with Smackdown, one with a clause that Teddy Long did not see. Every match that RVD fights will be fought under RVD rules, meaning no rules. In this way, RVD could fight the matches he is accustomed to in ECW and allow other wrestlers to wrestle similar styles in matches with RVD, allowing for some classics like the kind we saw on the RVD DVD. That would be awesome and it would really push RVD the way he is supposed to be pushed.

I would like to see Edge and Christian get one more reign as tag-team champions, but now with their more aggressive style. It would be interesting to see, just for old time’s sake. However, when Edge fights HBK this week, Kurt Angle better help Edge and answer HBK’s challenge on RAW.

I was thinking, actually frothing at the mouth of the idea that AJ Styles’ contract is coming up soon. If I was the WWE, I would sign him so fast. What an addition to Smackdown he would make. His matches with Rey Mysterio, Eddie Guerrero and RVD would make Smackdown the must-see show it deserves to be. Now, if only they can sign Chris Sabin and Michael Shane, holding back the cruiserweights would not be an option anymore.

I love how TNA announces PPV matches almost immediately and sometimes during the PPV itself. They build up almost every match as if it is important; something so simple that the WWE never seems to get right. TNA is on the ball and the WWE just screws it all up. I just wonder if the WWE is even aware of how stupid its writing team has been.

Also, if the WWE is willing to give wrestlers so much money to appear on the ECW PPV, why not sign them to contracts with the WWE. I mean, I heard some sick figures for Sabu that do not warrant one night of work. Maybe there is something else going on. Maybe the WWE has long term plans for the ECW wrestlers. This could get interesting in the weeks and months ahead.

Well, that’s all for today. I would first like to thank those who have written me this week. I will get back to you soon. Until next time, remember, I am the river from which all others flow and when I am gone, none shall take my place. Peace.
