Recap of The Rock on David Letterman - notes on TRL & The Daily Show
On Thursday, March 3, 2005 at 1:31 PM EST Eric Anderson sent in the following recap...
I caught The Rock on David Letterman Monday night. Basically he managed to avoid the entire topic of his former career and talked about his new movie Be Cool and of getting Punk'd. One interesting comment he made was when Letterman asked if he had ever been around steroid use. He said that the Miami Hurricanes players always prided themselves by being the fastest, not necessarily the biggest. Once again he didn't touch on wrestling, but basically said that his belief is that pushing yourself as hard as you can, and busting your ass is better than any steroid, to which he got an ovation from the studio audience. I guess you could say unless Rock is trying to stay out of the limelight for a big work WWE is planning, or whether he's sulking from the way things went down, it appears anyway that his time in the WWE and pro wrestling in general is over.
Notes from Adam Martin: The Rock also appeared on MTV's "Total Request Live" and Comedy Central's "The Daily Show" on Tuesday.
His appearance on TRL saw him do a staring contest with Bruce Willis, where Willis won when he kissed The Rock on the cheek. There was also a separate interview he did with Christina Milian where they showed a clip from "Be Cool" with Vince Vaughn. They brought up how The Rock could be seen smiling throughout the shot and he explained why. According to Rock, Vaughn decided to not wear underwear in the shot and did a certain dance that made it very noticeable. Overall, it came off as a very funny segment.
His apperance on The Daily Show was a basic interview with Jon Stewart. Although I didn't get to see the whole thing, Stewart mentioned his wrestling past and if anyone is mad at him for leaving. The Rock said everyone has been very supportive and how he misses performing in front of a live audience very much. Stewart briefly mentioned The Iron Sheik and how he could always get a crowd mad at him. Towards the end, Stewart brought up the lastest movie Rock just shot. Rock confirmed it was "Doom", a movie based on the popular PC game. Stewart said he was a big fan of the game and looked very excited about it coming out. The Rock said it was scheduled for an August release.
