ECW One Night Stand Notes: Promotion, style of the show & Mick Foley
On Saturday, April 30, 2005 at 5:27 PM EST - The word making the rounds right now in regards to the upcoming WWE run ECW One Night Stand PPV event on June 12 is that it will receive little to no promotion at all during WWE programming in having to do with storylines. The plan is to have the show pretty much stand alone as a separate brand and not promote it concerning angles on WWE television. The goal many WWE officials want is for fans to find the PPV event like they found the "The Rise & Fall of ECW" DVD that also wasn't promoted to death either.
- As was reported on a week ago, WWE wants the event to feel as authentic as possible in terms of both the in-ring product and the production value as well. You will no doubt see a mix of technical, hardcore and women's wrestling on display as it was in the past with the promotion. In terms of the production style, there has been talk of it being produced in the "ECW style" with fewer camera angles than a WWE show. So, for those who remember the ECW days not looking as "polished" in terms of production quality, it looks like WWE would like to return to that look to stay true to what it was in its day.
- Although it still isn't a 100% confirmation, Mick Foley is expected to take part in the show on June 12. Some reports are stating that Vince McMahon contacted Foley about working the show as his Cactus Jack character and working a classic "Cactus style" match with plenty of hardcore spots. Foley on the other doesn't appear to be very open to doing that and would rather make an appearance cutting a promo in front of the crowd instead.
- For those wondering, Tommy Dreamer has been the "point man" for the project and has been getting a lot of input from Paul Heyman as well. Of course, Vince McMahon will continue to have the final say on all things related to the event while John Laurinaitis and Jim Ross are both involved as well.
