Pro's from the Palace (#25) - Judgment on Judgment Day (Predictions)
On Friday, May 20, 2005 at 12:57 PM EST Part of me wants to boycott the forthcoming pay per view because of the antics that has become so offensive to me involving Kurt Angle, Booker T, and Sharmell Sullivan, but I will take that anger and put it to the side, and do the picks for the pay per view.
BIG SHOW VS. CARLITO (w/MATT MORGAN)
One on one, Carlito vs. Big Show, this would be a one sentence prediction. Any sort of antics that Carlito would pull would be null, void, and moot because Show is just too damn massive. However, the addition of Matt Morgan to this equation, whos talent is limitless, no matter how much I can't stand the gimmick, makes this match almost a pick em for either competitor. It would be nice for WWE to show off Carlito's so called talent inside the ring, since he has almost become the new Roddy Piper of the current generation, spending most of his time inside the 'cabana'. We all heard of Carlito's prowress prior to his injury, and especially because of his initial US title reign. Since his 'return' to active competition, has he faced anyone of sustained talent? Not really. This ought to be very one sided, regardless of the Matt Morgan insertion in to the fracas, in my opinion. Big Show is too experienced, too big, and currently too pissed off. I would expect to see Morgan vs. Big Show pretty soon, and that, could be a hell of a lot more interesting than Big Show vs. Carlito.
WINNER: Big Show
For the WWE United States Championship, ORLANDO JORDAN defends against HEIDENREICH
WOW, a United States title defense! I can't believe it. I am stupified. Heidenreich's new babyface gimmick is a little difficult to take, but his strength and power will make Orlando run for his money, as definitely seen for all our eyes on Smackdown this past week. If Jordan does come out on his own, without the assistance of Doug and Danny Basham, his championship could be in jeopardy. As far as I can remember, this is Heidenreich's first attempt at a strap in WWE. I know that there has been precedence for new talent to win titles in their first opportunity, for example, MNM with the tag belts, Carlito with the US title, Batista with the World title, yadda yadda yadda, but, as a whole, I would think you'd need to crawl before you can walk as a champion and in title matches. I expect some cabinet interference to keep this program open between the Chief of Staff and the "friend seeker". Personally, I am just thrilled to see Orlando defend the US title, period. Someone tell me when he defended the belt prior to this since he won it. Please, tell me.
WINNER: by DQ: Heidenreich
On a quick side note, did the kid that came in to the ring with Heidenreich this past thursday look like he was being slowly tortured by a madman? Could someone be more enthusiastic about being in a WWE ring? Jeez.
For the WWE Tag Team Championship, MNM defend against HARDCORE HOLLY & CHARLIE HAAS
I like to see the fact that Holly & Haas are in the title contention with the champs. I loved the singles match between Mercury and Hardcore Holly this past week. How scintillating was that Alabama Slam that Mercury took? Nasty. Experience wise, Haas & Holly have this in the bag, in a hurry. I don't think that's going to be how it transpires. I think maybe that they'll try and figure out a way to keep this program going, maybe a DQ win with Melina's assistance, basically because there really isn't any major league contenders for the tag team straps. Anyway, Mercury and Nitro will get schooled during this match prior to finding a way to screw their opponents, either winning dirty, or getting DQ'ed. I'll go with Melina interference allowing MNM to get the win, but to not be away from the spectre of facing Hardcore & Charlie again.
WINNERS: MNM
EDDIE GUERRERO VS. REY MYSTERIO
The heel turn for Eddie is complete. He is vicious. His promos the last couple of weeks have been amazing. I expect some serious viciousness in this contest, on both counts. I think Mysterio will figure out a way to get the dupe, but this is a pick 'em match, in all senses of the word. Eddie could get the win, and bring his status one step closer to the WWE title, especially since, well, we'll get to that. Rey was rumoured before Wrestlemania to get a major league singles push in the heavyweight division following Wrestlemania. This one will be the show stealer for this very small card. I'll take Eddie to steal this one, and bring this thing to a head at the next pay per view, or possibly Summerslam down the road.
WINNER: Eddie Guerrero
KURT ANGLE VS. BOOKER T.
Ok. Sharmell is a beautiful woman. She needs to get out. Booker T needs to get a phone call from the Undertaker, Vince McMahon, Stone Cold, DDP, Dustin Rhodes, and a host of others that have done some assemblance of a storyline with their real life wives within the wrestling business. (Thanks to my new friend Quincy for writing me with a list of names who have fallen in to this category!) All talent that have done angles with their wives have been held back, and been forced to take a back seat to the female. I don't have a problem with women competing in angles, and matches within WWE, but the bottom line is, Kurt Angle and Booker T could have pulled this feud with their eyes closed, no questions asked, without having to add the element of Sharmell. Yes, it's more emotional now, but the fact is, it's offensive. I can't stand it. I love both of these competitors, I think they can produce a tremendous contest, but this time around, I can't even predict a winner, because both of them will lose when the chips fall where they may.
WINNER: Kurt Angle
For the WWE Championship, in an I QUIT match, JOHN CENA defends against J.B.L.
This one could be very good, or very, very bad. There is really no way around it from either side of the coin. I think Cena will have much more offense in this contest, which will be in direct contrast to his Wrestlemania victory over JBL, where he got his ass kicked prior to the quick flourish in to the FU. Not going to happen here. We're going to see JBL probably continue to bleed buckets like he has in the past. I don't remember off the top of my head if Cena has bled in a contest before, but he is more than likely going to bleed here too. The match intrigues me, but the talent doesn't. JBL is acting like a crybaby, not like a man seeking his title back. Carrying the old title around like he is still champion is lame, this cabinet thing of his has gotten lame, since there was some dissension among the ranks prior to Wrestlemania, and now afterwards, all that so called tension just disappeared, literally, in to thin air. How does that happen? Anyway, Bradshaw had a tremendous run as WWE champion, there is no discounting that, but the time is now for the new champion, and this victory will propel him in to the next feud, with either Kurt Angle or Eddie Guerrero, whichever comes first. Personally, I'd like to see Eddie be next on the title tree for John Cena, but this one, Cena will bring his lunchpail to the dance, cause he's got a lot of work to do. How cool would it be, however, to see Scotty come out and get some revenge on JBL for what Bradshaw did to Scotty last week, with that public humiliation. It'd be poetic justice. Doubtful, but poetic justice.
WINNER: John Cena
Doesn't it seem like the card is incredibly small? What happened to the cruiserweight championship match? I thought London would defend against Chavo. Can't we get more than six matches for an alleged 2 hour plus pay per view? Ridiculous. Anyway, quickly, if London does face Chavo, London will retain. I suspect Chavo to end up re-teaming iwth his Uncle Eddie in the near future.
That's it for now. I'm cooking up some thoughts for this so called draft lottery, so I'll come back with that in the near future. Plug time:
