Status of scheduled TNA taping on 5/31, possible options for TV, & more
On Thursday, May 26, 2005 at 5:08 PM EST There still remains no word on if TNA will be running the scheduled taping for Impact! next Tuesday on May 31. Given that tomorrow will mark the final airing of Impact! on Fox Sports Net, it was assumed among many that it would be canceled. According to reports, plane tickets for the taping have already been purchased so it appears at least at this point that the tapings are a go despite the deal with FSN expiring this weekend.
For those asking why they would even decide to run a taping without a TV deal, many feel it would be good for the morale of the TNA crew and the fans to simply run a show and act like business as usual. Despite losing the spot on Fox Sports Net, TNA still has overseas timeslots to fill regarding Xplosion (which is syndicated all around the US and overseas). Some have even suggested the company stream the tapings on TNA's official website for the time being until a TV deal is finalized. As noted earlier, TNA attempted to close a deal with WGN as of yesterday and more negotiations were expected today.
Dave Nelson of NWA Ohio has issued a statement on his company's website in regards to some reports responding to the news of him looking to purchase TNA. Nelson has some strong words for many of those against it, adding, "this to me is why the wrestling business is so screwed up, the negative words that cross the lips of everyone who has failed or never tried is like a dagger in the back, and that is what the wrestling world is, back stabbing and manipulation. For those of you who have tried and failed at building a company I can understand your jealously and your hate to see another man make it work, and for those of you who have never tried for reasons of finances or ability then there is no reason you should slander those who make the attempt. The goal of NWA Ohio and our new company which has not been named as of yet, is to do one of two things, push TNA into the future with a slightly new concept, we keep the TNA style and put in a mix of old school, bringing back yesterdays legends to push the guys who have worked hard to make it. The TNA has the top talent, all they lack is to be run by someone with wrestling back ground, not a lawyer or a Energy Company." To read the full statement, click here.
