'The Longest Yard' film finishes third, WWE in Europe, + Dan Quirk note
On Tuesday, May 31, 2005 at 1:54 PM EST According to BoxOfficeMojo.com, the new Adam Sandler film "The Longest Yard" featuring Kevin Nash, Bob Sapp, Bill Goldberg, Steve Austin and Giant Singh grossed an estimated $60 million over the Memorial Day weekend. This took the movie to a third place finish overall behind the new animated film "Madagscar" and the ever popular "Star War Episode III: Revenge of the Sith." The film was made for $82 million and is already close to making that investment back for Paramount Pictures.
SportsBusiness.com reported earlier today that WWE will be launching a new program that is designed to acquire more sponsorships for the International market. WWE will be returning to Europe for a 16 date tour in November that will be called "The Survivor Series Tour." RAW and SmackDown will be taped on 11/21 and 11/22 in Sheffield, England. The Connecticut Post has added an article covering the death of 22 year old independent wrestler Dan "Spider" Quirk who passed away over the weekend. As reported on earlier, Quirk was catching an opponent who was executing a moonsault off the top rope. When Quirk caught him, he came down hard on the concrete and hit it head first. He was rushed to a hospital immediately where he was later declared dead. For the full article, click here.
