Potential TNA buyer backs out - claims TV deal with WGN is off and more
On Wednesday, June 1, 2005 at 4:46 PM EST NWA Ohio's Dave Nelson posted a new statement on NWAOhio.com announcing his decision to pull his $10 million bid to purchase TNA after not hearing back from the company. In addition to stating this, Nelson claims that TNA has all but "lost" their TV deal with WGN and that a "potential deal" with Spike TV would not be structured in a way that would benefit TNA.
Despite that statement, a WGN representative stated earlier this afternoon that "negotiations are ongoing, although a contract has yet to be signed" in regards to a possible TV deal with TNA Wrestling. That same representative added that any report claiming negotiations had finished was "absolutley incorrect." When asked for comment, Spike TV representatives declined to comment on any negotiations taking place.
According to reports, Nelson was never taken seriously by those within TNA when he made his bid to purchase the company, especially when he brought in talent of his own for a tryout at an Impact! taping and they performed what was described as very poorly. Although Nelson was rumored to be politically aligned with the Jarrett family, he reportedly didn't do himself any favors by showing up at TNA events with a black truck with the NWA logo painted across the hood. Nelson did claim in his statement that he had plans on pushing a new company adding, "...at this time will move forward with the start of a new Wrestling Company to kick off in early Fall of this year." It will be interesting to say the least if that ever takes off.
