AudioWrestling.com Interview Recap: Shane Douglas on Wrestling News Live
"The Franchise" Shane Douglas was on the June 6th edition of Wrestling News Live with Trey and JSK to promote the Hardcore Homecoming event on June 10th at "The Arena" in Philly! The full show is now archived and playing for FREE in streaming audio on AudioWrestling.com
Shane talked about Jeremy Borash's documentary "Forever Hardcore" and says if fans liked "The Rise and Fall of ECW" DVD, they will love this one. Shane talks about if he feels WWE will try to take legal action against the DVD and says there are lawyers that will be ready to defend the first amendment right for former ECW stars to talk about their feelings of ECW.
Shane says if Vince McMahon would have planned the ECW One Night Stand event properly, there never would have been a need for a Hardcore Homecoming event. Shane also says every opportunity was made to WWE for ALL of the outside talent to be used for the ECW PPV but WWE didn't want to do any talent exchanges.
The WNL hosts feel the only reason that WWE keeps Paul Heyman on the payroll is so he can't go to TNA. Shane Douglas agrees and says even though he has some differences with Paul on the business side, he would love to see Paul on his show or see Paul have a better position with WWE.
The conversation switches to the direction TNA, Shane says he is very proud to be associated with TNA and the strong PPV events of recent months. Shane isn't thrilled with TNA's current TV situation but he feels the company needs to step up and get a better TV outlet. Shane feels he thinks TNA is smart enough to have not allowed the Fox Sports deal to run out unless they were confident of having a better deal on the back burner. Shane is looking forward to the prospect of another Monday Night War.
Shane doesn't think Vince is afraid of TNA and Shane actually feels Vince would be looking forward to some competition since Vince does his best work with his back against the wall (later in the show, there is a very long discussion as to a future TV deal for ECW if the company is relaunched later this year and whether this could hurt TNA's TV situation).
The conversation switched back to Hardcore Homecoming, Shane discussed the prospect of touring with Hardcore Homecoming internationally and running similar events all year long. Shane says no plans like that have been officially set, but some plans probably will be announced in the not so distant future.
Shane says the DVD for Hardcore Homecoming will be released just a few weeks after the event and alot of deals have already been setup for the DVD to be released at major retail outlets. Shane also talks about the availability of "Forever Hardcore" which will be available at the "Hardcore Homecoming" live event.
Shane and the WNL hosts run through the full list of talent for the event and Shane mentions there will be a bunch of surprises just like fans remember getting from ECW in the 90's.
The WNL hosts put over their friend Tracy Smothers who was last week's guest, Shane says there will be a FBI reunion at Hardcore Homecoming.
Shane hopes that this show will take fans back to the glory days of the Bingo Hall and when it is all said and done, fans will be able to look back at Hardcore Homecoming as a memorable night.
Shane says some reconfiguring is being done to try to get as many people into the building as possible on June 10 and stay under the fire commissioner's limit for people allowed in the building. Shane says go to HardcoreHomecoming.com for your last chance at tickets and merchandise before the event.
