Hardcore Homecoming Notes: Event a big success, and post-show notes
On Saturday, June 11, 2005 at 1:23 PM EST Here are some news and notes from last night's Hardcore Homecoming event in Philadelphia, PA. If you didn't get a chance to check out the results for the event, you can do so by clicking here.
- Last night's event was said to be a huge success from both an entertainment and financial standpoint. It was described as a celebration, farewell and a "return to glory" for a number of those involved with ECW in the past.
- One of the bigger surprises was the announcement that the three way dance main event would be changed to an unadvertised barbed wire match. The Pennsylvania State Athletic Commission did get involved and ordered the wire returned to the locker room area. An agreement was eventually worked out to use the wire again, although other reports started it was worked barbed wire to keep the fans happy (and especially given the large ticket gate).
- The event was booked by a combination of people including Shane Douglas, Tod Gordon and Jeremy Borash. Many wrestlers who took part on the card got involved creatively as well, especially Raven, Sabu and Terry Funk.
- The post-show included all workers who took part in the show circling around the ring taking pictures and signing autographs. Q & A sessions with Shane Douglas, Terry Funk, Sabu, Francine, Tod Gordon, Justin Credible and Tammy Sytch were all filmed. In addition, the original "ECW Arena" sign was auctioned off for $800 with the proceeds going to the Chris Candido scholarship fund. Sytch even flashed the winner as part of the auction.
- A few TNA staff members helped Jeremy Borash with some backstage jobs at the show. Bill Banks was shooting footage backstage and at ringside for the upcoming DVD release, while Lee South was shooting photos that will no doubt go online very soon. Cassidy Riley helped out with some "grunt work", while Scott D'Amore helped run the locker room. Bob Ryder also attended the show and handled the travel for the show.
- The New York Wrestling Connection of Long Island contacted Hardcore Homecoming officials the week of the show and donated the old ECW set (minus the ECW logo) complete with the old brick wall and fencing for the entranceway at the show. An impressive video wall was set up and was used to air the "Forever Hardcore" documentary. A musical tribute to some former ECW stars who have since passed on was shown as well.
- There was said to be a lot of transportation delays after an 18 wheeler truck crashed on the New Jersey Turnpike. A good number of fans arrived to the show very late, with some arriving close to an hour after it began.
