Press Releases on Raven vs. Abyss & Joe vs. Sabin at No Surrender PPV
On Thursday, July 14, 2005 at 2:50 PM EST TNAwrestling.com issued the following press releases in regards to the No Surrender PPV this Sunday, July 17, in Orlando, FL at Universal Studios:
RAVEN MAKES FIRST PPV TITLE DEFENSE THIS SUNDAY
Nashville, TN (July 13 , 2005) – Is Abyss finally getting the legitimate title shot that he has been twice promised, or is he a pawn in a scheme by James Mitchell to destroy Raven?
There is no doubt that James Mitchell has delivered on his promise to get “The Monster” Abyss his long, overdue shot at the NWA World Heavyweight Championship at “No Surrender” this Sunday. But Mitchell and Raven have a history in TNA. In one of the bloodiest, goriest moments in TNA History, Shane Douglas beat Raven in a “Hair vs. Hair Match” (thanks to Vampiro), leading Mitchell to use an electric razor to cut Raven's locks in what amounted to a bloody scalping.
Months later, Raven got his revenge in a beat-down on Mitchell that was so severe that he was hospitalized for massive blood loss.
Two weeks ago on iMPACT!, the stakes were raised when Raven stipulated that his first title defense would be a “Dog Collar No Surrender Match,” where he and Abyss would be tethered by a steel chain and victory will come by pin-fall only.
After a lengthy hiatus from TNA, why has James Mitchell returned? Is it to really help “The Monster” Abyss win the NWA Heavyweight Championship or is it a plan, hatched out by months of deliberation, to settle an old score with Raven?
CHRIS SABIN VS. SAMOA JOE AT “NO SURRENDER” THIS SUNDAY ON PAY-PER-VIEW
Nashville, TN (July 14 , 2005) – Undefeated in TNA, and only having lost one-time in the past three years, Samoa Joe makes his second TNA pay-per-view appearance this Sunday at “No Surrender” when he goes up against Chris Sabin.
In his short stint with TNA, the 6’2” 280 pound Samoa Joe has proven that the X Division is about “no limits.” Speed and agility weren’t weapons enough for Sonjay Dutt at “Slammiversary” as Samoa Joe used his brute force and a Rear Naked Chokehold to force Dutt to submit.
Last week on iMPACT!, Samoa Joe beat Elix Skipper and Shark Boy in a three-way match to keep his undefeated streak alive.
With all due respect to Dutt, Skipper and Shark Boy, Samoa Joe hasn’t faced anyone as tough as the two-time X Division champion, three-time Ultimate X Match winner, Chris Sabin.
There is no doubt that Samoa Joe has a physical superiority and surprising agility. But Sabin possesses incredible speed and quickness, and in the past has shown enough power to combat the hefty “Samoan Submission Machine.”
The pride of the X Division is on the line as Sabin tries to stop this newcomer from making the TNA X Division his own.
