Also visit www.getinthering.tv for more information on The Phantom, Sir Adam and their upcoming Mysteries of Wrestling Solved book out now.
Also on this edition was former AWA, and WCW commentator Lee Marshall.
Lee Marshall from www.wrestlereunion.com Wrestlereunion II in Valley Forge, Pa August 26-28 comes on the show. Lee announced the Dudley Boyz will be on the show this year.
Lee just recently did an interview with Bruno Sammartino.
Lee talks about the 1-800 Collect reports in WCW. Lee says that led to angles with Bobby Heenan. In real life they are good friends.
Lee talks about starting out at 18 in a small territory in Phoenix. And watching Blassie and Tolos as a kid. Phantom jumps to his AWA days. Lee talks about the Turkey challenge in the dying days of AWA which was won by Jake the Milkman Milliman. Lee says at one time AWA was the cornerstone of big time wrestling. And Verne Gagne was the man at the time. And Verne always wanted wrestling over the showmanship. Lee talks about working for WWWF, promoting shows on the West Coast before going to AWA. And AWA being the first wrestling with a network show on ESPN.
Phantom asks if there was any resentment towards Greg Gagne. Lee says it was the opposite. That some wrestlers thought he was tremendous. But he needed to be used right, not as a main event guy. And even his dad knew that, and never made him AWA champion.
Lee talks about the wrestlereunion show, and that Stan Hansen will be there. Lee talks about the Bruno Zbysko angle/feud. And this being the 20th anniversary.
WWE Smackdown Commentator Tazz joins the show.
Tazz talks about being able to kick any color announcer in the business. Tazz says Michael Cole is nothing like he is on TV in real life. He smokes cigars and drinks Jack Daniels. Tazz says people cant out drink or out party Michael Cole. He says he was put in a tough spot by replacing JR so early in his career.
Phantom talks about Tazz having a rep back in the day of being a hard edged tough guy. Tazz says he lived the gimmick in his ECW days. But there was a misconception about him, walking around dressed in black and orange. But he is a different guy now, he matured and had a family. And he is embarrassed now looking back at how he was. He talks about being at the ECW PPV, and Joey Styles telling him it was nice seeing him calmed down now.
Phantom talks about ECW's locker room. Tazz says he tried to separate himself from the close locker room, keeping his wife away. Tazz says there was a huge family atmosphere in the ECW locker room. He talks about Heyman having a table in the locker room as his office. And people could come up and talk to him or butt heads. It's a time Tazz will never forget or let anyone tarnish it.
Tazz talks about being 5'8'' and needed to have an extra attitude to be perceived as a big star. He says perception is reality and Heyman understood that. And it created a buzz around himself, and helped create his persona.
Tazz says Michael Cole and Paul Heyman helped him the most at becoming a good commentator. Tazz says people liked what they heard from Tazz when he stepped in for Lawler on color when he took him out in an angle. Cole went to Vince and told him he thought they found their man to take over Heat. And that got the ball rolling.
Tazz talks about the first night they did the split brand commentary on a PPV. And there is a lot of truth to the rumors they ruffled feathers. They wanted to be different than King and JR. King is a more comedy one liner guy, and Tazz likes to do more analyzing, and keep the comedy short. Tazz says King and JR will go down as one of the best teams ever. Tazz says people thought they couldn't go live. But no one realized they do the commentary on Smackdown live to tape. And he and Cole have a good chemistry.
Adam brings up the move from Thursdays to Fridays for Smackdown. Tazz says the fans will keep watching it, no matter what day its on. He says they may lose some casual fans. But they have to make the best of the situation they have.
Phantom brings up the releases from WWE, bringing up the Dudley Boyz first. Tazz says its a shame the Dudley Boys are released, and it was a mistake they were released. They worked their tails off for the WWE, always on time, always in condition to perform. They tore it up on the ECW PPV. Tazz says talent rises to the top, they love the industry, and they will find a place.
Tazz says he was also surprised about Spike. Tazz says WWE is trying to shake things up, and he feels bad any time loses their job. Tazz doesn't want to name names, but some of the guys were given opportunities and didn't make it.
They ask about Vince. Tazz says he is a little more business then Paul Heyman, who was at times like one of the boys. But he is still accessible to the talent, and never turns down a guy who wants to talk to him. Tazz says Vince is more vocal when you mess up then when you do well. But it is expected of you to do well.
Tazz talks openly about not wanting ECW to be remade into Vince's vision. But he was very happy the way it turned out, and it felt like ECW. He says Vince kept a close eye on Paul Heyman, but let Heyman run the show. Tazz says they did a great job in going back into the past and recreating ECW. He got to feel like the old Taz again. He wished he could of done more. Not that WWE wouldn't let him, but because of his neck problems he has limitations now. Tazz praises RVD's promo.
Phantom asks Tazz why there was no next step after the ECW PPV. Tazz says he wasn't surprised. The company doesn't rush into things. They like to wait and see what their next step should be. Tazz says he would be fine for that to be the end. And to keep it special they cant do it too often. Tazz isn't sure how they could top the ECW show with a follow up.
Phantom asks if Paul Heyman can still fit into WWE as a writer. Tazz says he is a Heyman fan and he can write anything in the wrestling business.
In closing Tazz reminds the fans to watch Smackdown, and iin September it changes to Friday nights.
