Update on Chris Jericho's WWE contract status - TNA a possible option?
On Thursday, July 28, 2005 at 4:14 PM EST According to reports, Chris Jericho has still not agreed to or signed a new contract with WWE. Some find this move strange as many wrestlers, especially more established names like Jericho, tend to sign deals long before they are about to expire. We do know that Jericho has numerous overseas dates planned with his band Fozzy and that he did plan on taking time off from full-time wrestling with WWE.
What makes this situation interesting is that a close source to Jericho stated that he was curious on whether or not he would choose to re-sign with WWE based on a variety of factors. Or in other words, Jericho has told people that it is not a given at this point he will renew his deal with WWE. Even with that said, some find it strange WWE would even push Jericho to a big main event match against John Cena for the WWE Championship at SummerSlam next month if they weren't given the impression he would renew his deal with the company.
To make matters even more interesting, with TNA finalizing a television deal with Spike TV for this October, they could be an option for Jericho to jump on with given his current schedule with his band Fozzy. Given the amount of dates TNA works per month, it would allow Jericho to still stay fully committed to his music projects outside of the wrestling business. Plus, TNA does have "deep enough pockets" so to speak to bring Jericho on if the option was there to do so. Again, this is only speculation at this point as nothing has been confirmed as of now.
