Pro's from the Palace (#40) - Keep Real Life Families Out of Wrestling TV
» Reported by Mike Siciliano of WrestleView.com

Why, can someone tell me why or where good television is going to occur from some psychpathic bad guy tells a child, a child, that his father from the time he was born is not his biological father?

Can someone please explain to me why Vincent Kennedy McMahon sees fit to SOMEHOW always include FAMILY in something that is supposed to be A FANTASY world?

I know the world is fascinated by reality television, but, when you have reality television, you have the precipice of falling over the cliff and taking something WAY too far.

WWE has done that, and then some.

I'm going to be honest with you. I am more sickened by the segment this past week on Smackdown between Eddie Guerrero and Rey Mysterio than I was with the Undertaker/Muhammad Hassan segment that cost Mark Copani his job and gimmick. I am more sickened by this whole entire angle that takes two legendary performers, two men destined for the hall of fame, and turned them in to characters that nobody needs to see or witness.

Now, let's clarify something here. Yes, I know this is television. Yes, I am well aware this is contrived, and scripted, and the whole thing. But, when a person in my position, and I AM SPEAKING FOR MYSELF, NOT FOR ANYONE ELSE, but a person in my position, with my current situation at home, watches WWE, he watches it to enjoy the show, and forget his troubles that surround him, not be reminded of them by some ridiculous angle when he has to watch a child run for his life.

I am a father of three young boys. I could not imagine, nor comprehend the agony that would have been felt if this angle were legitimate. I cannot comprehend, nor imagine the fear that Dominick went through even portraying that scene, and for what its worth, he did a damn good job. But, why, someone explain to me why two performers of Eddie Guerrero and Rey Mysterio's calibre have to be reduced to this? They could have a feud for the ages based solely on competition, cage matches, lumberjack matches, hell in a cell matches, etc. Remember those days? Damn, I almost wish they'd come back, because at least, we'd know who the better man is, and then we could move on. This has gone on now for over 4 months, and I can't stand it anymore. Not because I don't want to see Eddie and Rey compete, either together or against each other, but because FAMILY being involved with WWE storylines is a sure fire way to sabotage your career.

Let's take a look back, shall we?

Remember Stone Cold when he was with the Alliance, and brought Debra in? How long did that last before the world told WWE to get Debra the hell out of here? And how badly did Stone Cold's alleged heel turn take a nose dive when Debra was involved? Enormous.

Now, I can say that perhaps the stalker angle between the Undertaker and DDP ended on a positive note with some good clean wholesome violence, but WWE managed to portray the Undertaker's wife as a blithering idiot with eyes that belonged in a mental institution. And, in the process, they did damage the character as well. Obviously, not indefinitely, as 'Taker has rebounded considerably, but why, why, why, why, would you have a character so bent on destruction be chasing around his woman in an environment such as WWE? It makes NO sense.

Don't even get me started on Booker T and Sharmell. As my colleague Big D elaborated beautifully in his last column, Booker T's career has taken a nose dive since Sharmell has been introduced. He's not in any title contention, he has basically been in limbo since Kurt Angle has gone to Raw, and he's been an add-on to some tag matches involving people in neck deep feuds for months on end. Booker should realize this, but how can you tell your bride, WHO HAS HAD EXPERIENCE IN THE PAST, to step aside for the good of his career? One answer, you can't.

The affair scene between Eric Bischoff and Linda McMahon. Why would a woman that exudes such class be portrayed as a two-timer with a hosebag like Bischoff? Why would you put yourself through that storyline? For what? For ratings? Ridiculous. People don't forget these images of Bischoff in Linda McMahon's bedroom kissing her, they remember, and they will not forget. It tarnishes the images and the respectability of the people who portray the characters to no end, and it is something that WWE does not need to engage in for any reason. It may be part of Americana and American society, but what place does it have in a business that is supposed to revolve around COMPETITION, PHYSICAL COMPETITION?

Eddie was involved in something like this before himself. Remember the scene when his mother allegedly gets a heart attack at a house show when Eddie defended the WWE title against JBL? Remember AL WILSON? Come on, Vince, you can't tell me creative can't come up with something a little better than this? Hey, I got an idea...

REMEMBER WRESTLING?

I saw the highlights from Smackdown. I saw what Experience put on the air involving Eddie, Rey, & Dominick. It's inexcusable. It's offensive. It's degrading to any family man, or woman who has to endure such ridiculous storylines. Eddie Guerrero and Rey Mysterio on talent alone could provide matches for the ages. Any type of match could make classic television. But, we have to endure Eddie Guerrero screaming at his wife like a crazed maniac when she gets involved trying to stop him from saying this secret.

Look, people, I know the name of the company is World Wrestling Entertainment, and that the company is focusing on the entertainment aspect of the product in the hopes of bringing in more casual fans. But, let's be frank, ladies and gentlemen. If you want to watch a soap opera, you'd turn in to the networks in the morning and afternoons for good, clean, wholesome American garbage, in my humble opinion. If you're like me, and you like to see people bash their heads in, maybe you ought to think about changing your allegiances.

Seriously.

On one last note, this past week's Impact, I haven't seen it entirely, but I saw Raven answer the challenge from Jarrett & Rhino for Sacrifice. Ladies and gentlemen, that segment could possibly be one of the best written and produced segments I have seen on a wrestling show in months. I am not a Raven fan, I think sometimes his promos are almost too complicated. But, this one, this whole segment, was absolutely top notch. 100%. Worth the effort and time to download the stream. I watched it six times when I saw it initially, that's why I didn't see the rest of the show.

TNA is converting me. Big time conversion happening. Summerslam is the 21st. Sacrifice is the 14th. I normally only get the major WWE pay per views.. I may be skipping Summerslam to check out Sacrifice's main event. Who in the hell would ever believe you'd see two hardcore legends team up like Raven and Sabu? I wouldn't. It is going to be one for the ages, and one I am debating heavily whether or not I need to see as well. It's a tough call.

Debate me on these points, ladies and gentlemen, as the Palace turns 40! Click here to drop me a line.

Kimosabe, sumo?!!?!?
